Unless it’s a completely in door venue you are going to cop it no matter what.
Shade can make it very cold in a half empty stadium.
Let’s face it
Any stadiums they build will rarely be sold out during the normal season games.
SFS 30K with a roof would be cheaper to build than the 45k proposed and be a better venue with higher average crowds.

Probably
Pain in the arse to get to though
Train station is still a solid walk
Bus ??? dunno
Probably need to get a special event bus.
Olympic stadium has the stadium right at the door.

People reminiscing about the season opening rugby league double headers in 1999 and 2000 at what is now ANZ Stadium bring up a point about heat. A few people have suggested that it is imperative that the new stadiums have good cover in case of rain, but the new stadiums also need to provide shade for when it is hot.

If you want people to attend live events, they need to be comfortable, and sitting in pouring rain or scorching heat due to the lack of cover at the stadium is a sure fire crowd killer. The San Francisco 49ers are finding this out with Levi Stadium in Santa Clara. This stadium, which many Australia journos were praising as "state of the art" when it opened, is now slated by quite few of the fans of the 49ers because of the stadiums location further inland, where it is much hotter than at Candlestick Park, and due to the lack of shade, they are getting literally scorched after each game.

True the 49ers have not been having the best of seasons on field, but there have been plenty of complaints about the lack of shade from their season ticketholders, especially for pre-season games, and afternoon games early in the season. Fact is their eastern stands on hot days are often deserted as people will not sit in them due to the heat. So whilst you have excellent views of the field, and great amenities, if you wind up on the eastern side of the ground you are in for a broiling depending on the time of year.

As such the rebuild for ANZ and the SFS need to take note of this as there is no point of repeating mistakes made elsewhere with the new stadiums. Before people say I'm being silly, do people remember what happened on the opening of the SFS in 1988 at the Roosters v Dragons game? It pissed down raining all day and nearly everyone who went to the ground got soaked, including many of the Trust members and those in the Corporate reserve, let alone those seated down in the bowl area.
I was at that first game at the SFS and yes it did piss down. Naively, we went to our ticketed seats and proceeded to get drenched. Moved pretty quickly to seats out of the rain, let me tell you. I guess that’s the benefit of playing in a 40k seat stadium which rarely gets over 18k. There’s always somewhere decent to sit.

That fish finger burger was $12.50 robbing dogs!

FFS what sort of horrible frozen fish looks like that ? absolutely disgusting. A few years ago when the new Noble/ Bradman stands opened at the SCG the food court underneath the Noble had some good options, they even had a Doyle's outlet there, even though Doyle's can be over rated it was a good addition to the food there and there was always something decadent about being able to have oysters at SCG while watching Cricket or Football, now like the other food venues there even Doyle's have fallen back towards ordinary stadium food.

Yeah went to the first game at the SFS too but the tickets I got were in the back row so were well under cover but you could already see that night how inadequate the facilities were already and that was opening night.

Side side side note

I was there as well. Hot f**k of a day. When they were showing the intros for all 15 teams on big screen, I think I was the only one who cheered the NQ vision out of 104k people.........

f**king heathens.......
I was there and would have been cheering at that point. My main memory of the day was watching the screens all day because low down on the tryline, I couldn't see shit.

I remember when all the food trucks at shark park would give away free food after full time.
Those were good times.

Looks like a couple fish fingers. You can get a kilo of the f**kers for about 8 bucks. If you're gonna charge some poor bastard $12.50 for a fish finger sandwich at least put enough of 'em in to cover the bread.

It actually looks like what a lot of dodgy takeaways pass off as flathead but is frozen crumbed fillets that come from South America which are labelled flathead but are really from a different family of fish than the Australian flathead, you can buy those hideous South American things at Woolworths.
Even the burger in the shot looked hideous, what even happened to a bit of lettuce garnish on it, it actually makes the food at the SFS look gourmet and which we all know is hideous.

The wedges at Shark Park back in the early 2000's were the best potato wedges in the land, too.

I would put the wedges at Paddo Hotel on Caxton Street up against any wedge on the planet
Best I've ever eaten

Maybe it was watching the Sharks win the Grand Final in a room full of Gallen hating Queenslanders whilst drinking Little Creatures that made them taste soooooooo good

Does the SFS still have the little pizza stands? I’m sure it was a Domino’s? Perfect for the footy, I haven’t noticed them there the last couple yrs though, probably because you had to wait for them to go through that little convayer belt that it wasn’t profitable enough, but was easily the best thing there.

Can’t believe that people can’t go a couple hours without food, eat before or after the game, there are pubs all around, if everyone stops eating the crap they serve, they may just get the message.

Not sure about the Dominos pizza at the SFS, I sit in the members section where they have the stock standard rubbish plus an overpriced dumpling place and a gourmet burger place but it’s not always open. Rarely ever eat the slop at the SFS, there are plenty of decent eating options around the Moore Park, Surry Hills and Paddo areas.
