Is there scope to move the pitch if the other side stand is taken down and rebuilt? If not they’ve effectively sacrificed a decent stand ever being built on that side of the ground. Still it will at least help cover their losses I suppose. Will the coffee ques be shorter now?

Covering losses, really is a bad thing hey P.R?
They(coffee queues) are much quicker now ,as your'e not there fumbling through your pockets looking for loose change.

Gold Coast Titans offered $1 for stadium by Mayor Tom Tate

Jeremy Pierce, The Courier-Mail
April 29, 2018 12:00am

GOLD Coast Mayor Tom Tate has offered to buy the home ground of the Titans NRL club for $1 as Queensland’s stadium stoush continues.

Robina’s Cbus Super Stadium is at the centre of a saga surrounding exorbitant hiring costs for some of the region’s biggest sporting venues.

The Sunday Mail and The Courier-Mail have revealed expensive hiring fees through Stadiums Queensland have pushed some clubs, including the Titans and the AFL’s Suns, to the wall, while similar-sized venues interstate are substantially cheaper.

Instead of committing to high-priced, long-term deals, the Titans renegotiate hiring costs on a short-term basis costing about $110,000 a game.

The latest agreement expired after last night’s NRL clash with the Cronulla Sharks, with the Titans seriously considering taking home games to other venues.

Now, Councillor Tate has upped the ante by offering to take over the running of the stadium from the State Government for the grand total of $1.

Councillor Tate first considered the idea three years ago and this week said he would extend the offer in a bid to give the Titans and other tenants a better deal than the one they get from Stadiums Queensland.

The council spent $10 million buying the site in 2006 only to hand it over to the State Government, but with control of many Commonwealth Games venues now being returned to the city, Councillor Tate said it was the perfect time to follow suit with Cbus Super Stadium.

“My offer of $1 still stands,” he said. “If Stadiums Queensland was a private company, it’d be broke by now.

“The venue is heavily under-utilised right now so it makes sense to work with potential users to meet the market.

“It’s the same formula any savvy business adopts – that is, adjust your price to meet the market, look after the client, and long-term you’ll attract repeat business from that client and grow your base.’’

A Queensland Government spokeswoman yesterday said a special taskforce appointed to investigate the situation would “look at all the options”.

“We’re open to discussion if they want to manage Robina Stadium,” she said.

“The underlying cost pressures apply no matter who manages the stadium.’’

Titans chief executive Graham Annesley said the club just wanted certainty.

“We’re as anxious as anyone to get this matter resolved once and for all so we’re not constantly dealing with it every few weeks,” he said.

Thats probably the best outcome. If the council has control of the venue, then potentially bars and the like to get crowds to come before/enjoy after the game will appear. That's one of the biggest problems with the venue.

I used to think the sharks were the most likely Sydney team to fall over or relocate, but it’s pretty clear they’ve secured their future.

Without wanting to start a war on it, I’d consider Manly or the Tigers the next most likely.

Wests side of the merger has 2 leagues clubs in Ashfield and Campbelltown. They are safe.

Manly however..

Problem with a joint venture is you just never know how committed a leagues club will be. Obviously if they keep up their commitment things should be ok financially, but if they got the shits with how the footy club was being run?

The club also needs to settle on a home ground, this year they play their games at 5 venues. It’s absurd, completely directionless.

Tigers part of things are lucky they have good branding, otherwise I think wests may have kicked them to the curb a while ago.

Yeah I agree, it’s a precarious position, but they didn’t have many other options than to go the private route.

I could see Manly being moved to Gosford if things got really bad.

No-one wants them there again but they have little choice long term. Brookvale will never get an upgrade as there are no votes in it. Tigers at least have some choices if economics dictate they have to abandon Campbelltown or Leichhardt (which I believe they lose money on even when its full)

They’d need to fully commit to the central coast. HQ & training facilities up there.

I would hold off on any redevelopment on shark park until we know what the a league loftus mob are doing
if they get in, play two seasons at three grounds then move to a new facility, we should play out of that new facility.

if that doesn't happen,

there a few things we could do in the medium term if we were looking at more govt funding

id move the field further south to free up space at the north end.
I would put a concourse all the way around the field (so put seats at the south end and the south west corner all the way around.

Then you extend the ET stand north and south to the dead ball lines

that creates more seats etc

when we get more govt funding, we now have space to build a stand ala win stadium at the mangrove end. it would link to the ET stand as well. so then you would have three sides all the way around with undercover seating.

the burns side....I would knock the entire thing off the front and start again dead ball ine to dead ball line with a steeper incline

pipe dreams I know

The current situation of playing 'home' games in Auckland, Tamworth etc is farcical.
That one is a no brainer. There is no way a boutique $250 mil Rugby League stadium is going to sit there with only Parra games being played out of it.

It’d be fine to play a game in Tamworth if they just had one Sydney home ground, in fact it’d be a good idea.

They need to forge a new single identity, not keep a foot in all doors.

Hopefully at least one other club realises the virtues of parramatta stadium during the refurb of ANZ.

Designed by the same people who did AAMI Park.

Potential to expand to 20k.

Between this and the community centre in Broadmeadows there's a great opportunity for the NRL VIC competition to improve over the years and hopefully a few more Victorians can make it into the Storm ranks

Might be a minor thing but if everyone starts calling it, and there by thinking of it, as the Western Sydney Stadium, not Parra stadium, it might help clubs take it up as home ground? If everyone thinks of it as parra stadium then Dogs, Wests etc aren't going to feel it is their home.

The same company that made it virtually impossible to upgrade AAMI park without it costing an arm and a leg.

Costing over 120m just to pull the roof of AAMI.

Does not sound to promising for future upgrades in capacity.

Do we know it was specifically their fault? Surely someone signed off on that?

I take you point, and it’s likel it’ll get a sponsorship name which people will probably use too.

The best hope for western Sydney stadium is the 2 years tigers & bulldogs will use it for when ANZ is being refurbished. They might find it hard to leave after that. I’m still pretty pessimistic about the dogs using it, but I could see the tigers playing there.

I read about this the other day, apparently Etihad had a clause that no other stadium could be built over 30,000 up until a certain date so AAMI was built with the capacity it currently has, but they built it with foundations to support an upgrade to 50 or 60 thousand - but then added on a roof that would have to be completely pulled off to do so..

The roof looks great but was a bit counter-productive if the foundations were designed with an upgrade in mind
