The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

That's is happening, the club is starting to make some real progress off the field. I think the decision to take the game to New Zealand was a mistake but find it hard to fault most of their decisions in the last 12 months. I'm hoping the club makes a decision to base itself out of the new Western Sydney Stadium with one game at Leichhardt and Campbelltown but that will depend on what happens to the 10 year contract they have with ANZ.

They also need to be careful about pushing their numbers too early as they do not want to get former Balmain supporters offside.

Sorry, I meant clear direction on where they’re based.

5 home grounds this year, a training base that isn’t at one of their grounds. The identity isn’t clear. Who do they respresent?

.

That is the only real option for the future for us. If we remain at either/both of the suburban grounds for more than half of our games we will consign ourself to always being the poorest club in the comp. At least in a new stadium it would give a chance to grow.

To me they should abandon Leichhardt & Campbelltown. I’d still use Leichhardt for one or two games if it wasn’t a joint venture, but the message is all over the shop. Playing any games at Leichhardt or Campbelltown means if they want to take a game on the road, all of a sudden they’ve got 4 home grounds for the year. It’s too much.

If they could somehow get an upgrade to Campbelltown I’d say make that their main home ground, but that seems unlikely.

What I’d do with Campbelltown is make that the club HQ, train out there, visit the schools etc. But play out of Western Sydney Stadium.

On shark park, surely that northern end is no hope of being developed into a stand of any signifigance with those power lines hanging above it?

Who knows
There used to be a massive tower there
The club ( Irvine) managed to get rid of it.

They need to start making decisions on where they see the club in 10-20 years. If that is playing out of dilapidated old grounds then we are in big trouble.

I mean you could probably get away with one game in Campbelltown and one in Leichhardt but you need a clear single home ground.

I just don’t think the people of Campbelltown are ever going to properly embrace the team unless they at least base their HQ there.

An Aleague licence for Campbelltown could also help them get upgrades to the stadium.

Agree with most of what you've said here.
It's obviously a tough decision for the club given the distances between their 3 spiritual homes (Leichhardt, Concord/Ashfield, Campbeltown).

You could make an argument to base themselves for 10 games at the new-ANZ because it's closest to Western Suburbs origin home and close-ish to Leichhardt. But Campbeltown getting 1-2 NRL games seems like a token effort.

You could also argue for 10 at Campbeltown, because it's a big growth area they're meant to be representing and is a solid 40km+ from Parramatta or Homebush. But the quality of the stadium is lacking going into the coming decades. Will 1-2 games at bigger stadiums be enough to sustain them?

Liverpool makes the most sense for the Tigers. It is the capital of the South West. It is roughly in between Campbelltown and Leichardt.

The only problem is no stadium!!

The problem with Campbelltown is the club is 100% owned by clubs in the inner west. Wests Campbelltown has no stake in the club, with the club being owned 75% by Wests Ashfield and 25% Balmain.

Interesting.

If they’re not prepared to commit to it, they should abandon it.

Make western Sydney stadium their new home and play a game at leichardt, at least then the direction will be clear.

The brand is ubiquitous anyway, “Wests” can respresent a whole bunch of people. Plus the tigers monicker is popular amongst kids.

And the panthers can take over the Campbelltown region :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I actually think the new WSS is perfect for the Tigers. Like South's, they have a lot of fans in all parts of Sydney's west. Parramatta is pretty central to most of their fan base, and transport links are good.
Also plenty of game day options for food and drink.

From my own experience, the major problem with the Campbelltown region is similar to the problem facing any team looking to be based on the Central Coast: there are a huge number of RL fans there, but they already support other clubs. They've moved-in from other regions and have brought their club loyalties with them.
The inter-generational, rusted-on supporters of the club are mainly in the Inner West and it's also closer to the big end of town where all the corporate $$$ are.

I agree 100%, the Magpies were never fully adopted be the area either, I really do not believe the club will ever make the fulltime move to Campbelltown now that they are effectively owned by Wests Ashfield.
