The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

I saw a State Government advert in the SMH about two months ago calling for tenders for naming rights for Western Sydney Stadium, so it most certainly will have a commercial name.
And it was named Pirtek Stadium in its last few years.

Between this and the community centre in Broadmeadows there's a great opportunity for the NRL VIC competition to improve over the years and hopefully a few more Victorians can make it into the Storm ranks

Could you see the storm playing a game at that venue, or too small?

On a purely selfish note it'd be nice if the new stadium was used just by the Eels. Doesn't feel like a home if it is shared! Not a fan of the AFL model where home games basically don't exist much of the time.

But...I can see the benefits for the league if a few teams move there instead of ANZ. Also getting Sydney based fans to attend away games would be a huge bonus if they continue a ground share model.

They’d need to fully commit to the central coast. HQ & training facilities up there.

Tigers need to settle on a stadium, the new parramatta stadium could be a good option for them. I mean 5 different home grounds this year is absurd.

They should be in Campbelltown, the NRL should be pushing for them to move there. Have you seen how many houses are going up around there? They could be a big part of that community and really carve out a solid place for themselves if they had the foresight.

Parramatta Leagues club won't mind if other teams play there..

One cool thing about the new stadium will be the ability to personalise it on game days though. There will be lighting that displays the teams colours. Not a huge thing but a nice touch.

AFL model works in Melbourne because the teams are mostly quite central. It’ll never work to that degree in Sydney.

I agree. But I just don’t see it happening, too many factional interests at play.

Realistically they’ll also need money spent on Campbelltown oval.

Definitely trial games, maybe some low drawing home games, but with all their training facilities at AAMI and it basically being in the centre of Melbourne I think it's unlikely, maybe more likely after an upgrade

Melbourne have stated they are keen on a women's team that will train out of the community centre in Broadmeadows, not sure what the actual "stadium" facilities there would be like though, maybe this new stadium would be a better location

On a side note here is where that stadium would be in relation to NRL Vic clubs:

It could work for most of the Sydney clubs. Manly, Penrith and probably Cronulla it won’t but the rest are big city clubs with a fanbase stretching much further than their traditional roots. No reason they couldn’t tap into a city wide appeal with a central stadium like the Melbourne afl clubs do.

Problem with a joint venture is you just never know how committed a leagues club will be. Obviously if they keep up their commitment things should be ok financially, but if they got the shits with how the footy club was being run?

The club also needs to settle on a home ground, this year they play their games at 5 venues. It’s absurd, completely directionless.

Tigers part of things are lucky they have good branding, otherwise I think wests may have kicked them to the curb a while ago.

Wests Ashfield actually own 75% of the club so it is unlikely they will get the shits with how the club is being run, they control the board effectively controlling the club.

Fair point.

They need to step in and set a clear direction though. May as well use their numbers for the clubs good.

That's is happening, the club is starting to make some real progress off the field. I think the decision to take the game to New Zealand was a mistake but find it hard to fault most of their decisions in the last 12 months. I'm hoping the club makes a decision to base itself out of the new Western Sydney Stadium with one game at Leichhardt and Campbelltown but that will depend on what happens to the 10 year contract they have with ANZ.

They also need to be careful about pushing their numbers too early as they do not want to get former Balmain supporters offside.

I would have thought that campblelltown would be a better long term proposition for the Tigers. Wasn't there a race for the Campbelltown decades ago between Wests and East?

Watched some of the affiliated states comp from there the other week. Stadium looked like an amateur clubs ground. Would need a motza spending on it
