That’s interesting, I thought there was a stop right outside the stadium?

No how could you expect them to ever get it that right. It would be to logical and make way to much sense for that to ever happen in this lame State. So close but yet so far, should be there our pollies moto.

So how would it grab you if Labor wins next year and decides to turn the site into parkland? Or highrise apartments? They would be well within their rights.

Should be taken to an election. And if it's unsafe it shouldn't be used next week.

I doubt it. I'm not sure they'd be able stop the rebuilding of major infrastructure once the existing structure has been knocked down. They may be able to "resize" the rebuild so to speak but to say they're not going to rebuild the stadium at all after it has been knocked down would lead to a massive backlash and them ultimately paying major compensation to a lot of parties. It would be a political disaster I'd imagine.

It's two small blocks away from the stadium. What more do people want? A tram to their seat??
Clearly the Church street route was the best overall decision for the other 320 days of the year that the stadium isn't being used.

Exact same thing happened in Victoria after the last state election down there. I think it was a cross city tunnel. Governments contemplating major projects should not be starting them in the shadows of an election, especially something as controversial as this.

It was a northern motorway link. It cost the govt a billion to bail from the contract.
Funnily, it's now back on the agenda because it really is a necessary piece of infrastructure.
f**king politics.

This is different though because the infrastructure already exists, Victoria didn't knock down an existing motorway only to not rebuild it, they just cancelled a new project.

I'm sure they could do it, but I'd bet my lefty once they weighed up the backlash and costs in compensation they'd reconsider. Probably just reduce costs/size of the rebuild if anything.

They’re not going to turn it into a parkland.

At most labor would scale down the stadium, which could actually be a good thing.

My point is that it shouldn't be getting built at this point in time, at the expense of all taxpayers. It's really not well sited for use by all parts of the city, as we saw last night.

That was a different scenario though.

The project that was canned there was an addition, the east of Sydney will still need a stadium if Allianz gets knocked down.

Every project is at the expense of all taxpayers.

These plans were announced 6 months ago, that’s a full year before the election. You can’t have the govt not doing major work in the whole last year of its term.

Too short for something this controversial. They should face the voters on it. It doesn't need to be done. If it were unsafe they wouldn't be filling it up next weekend. Panthers Stadium is owned and paid for by Penrith ratepayers, except where they can get a grant from Canberra as an election bribe. The people of Woollahra do not pay for our stadium. I don't want to pay for theirs either.

Good start, but I want to see more than 4.

If you want more than 4 why don't Penrith moves some games there then ;) Tiges still have to play a few games at Leichhardt and Campbelltown plus one of their home games in the country so I think 4 for the Tiges is good at Parra, is there any news whether the Dogs will play any home games there ?

Don't think I would lose any sleep over it if the site was turned into parkland. Anyway I doubt even Foley would back down on the redevelopment if he wins office but I could see him scaling it right back though.
On a side note seeing it was such a nice day yesterday I decided to get probably my last swim in at the stadium pool, I said to the person I went with, once the new stadium is built it will be the 3rd one on the site in my life time, also the same with Parramatta.

Logical move, anyone who disagrees lives in a bygone era. Will probably end up playing Eels there twice for 2 sellouts.

Panthers stadium is owned by the Penrith council, Penrith council is controlled by the NSW govt. It exists entirely at their discretion.

You can’t compare a local ground to one that is used year round by 3 clubs and concerts etc.

If Penrith Stadium had 3 clubs then the NSW govt would be funding upgrades, just like WSS.

They don’t have to play a few games at Leichhardt or Campbelltown at all. At least not as many as they do.

Currently the Tigers have 5 home game venues for 2019, that’s ridiculous. They’re spread too thin.

Well, clearly you are all for building stadiums at public expense and I am not. Agree to disagree. I don't agree Parra had to be knocked down either.
