It's two small blocks away from the stadium. What more do people want? A tram to their seat??
Clearly the Church street route was the best overall decision for the other 320 days of the year that the stadium isn't being used.

Well short of that is it to hard to ask that at least one of our major stadiums have EVERYTHING going for it and completely done right? You know, in a very desirable and built up area where there are many drinking and eating venues surrounding it. A train station at the door for direct and easy access. Not as ours will be two modes of transport, Train & Light Rail, that will get you to within 2 blocks of stadium. Finally the Stadium must be at a minimum as good as the new Parramatta Stadium will be for the ultimate game viewing experience?

Well I suppose one and a half ain't bad for the new Parramatta Stadium.

That is why the new but way to late, unfortunately, Central Station Stadium proposal would be a complete and absolute game changer for RL and all other rectangle venue preferred sports. The number 1 train station in the country, on top of it, WINNER, surrounded by drinking and eating venues and will only encourage probably over a hundred more to open up, and finally the stadium itself will be ridiculously attractive to fans, office workers on a Thursday and Friday night after work and a few drinks to kick on and make it an event to look forward to. Probably will attract groups of office workers that would never make it to these games wanting to create staff bonding nights and the like. Also tourists who will hear, see and feel the buzz wanting to experience something that we can actually finally deliver, actual European like atmosphere at our sporting events.

No sorry, don't get me wrong, I am very excited about our new shiny Stadium and at least for the first few months the atmosphere that it will deliver. But as for the rest, sorry I just think that not all that much will change. People outside of Parra will still see it as a little awkward to get to and from. Anytime you need at least two separate connections to get to a venue and then a walk, be it shorter, then in the dead of winter and at night, people will think stuff it! We are filled with excuses waiting to be made.

But as for Parra, if we have a decent season and mainly good weather, we should have a home attendance of at least around 22k next year. Not bad, but if this Stadium had a roof, train station at its door, then I think that that would be the bare minimum year on year and probably half our games would have the sold out sign put up at the start of the week. I will be very surprised if that happens after the first year with the way things stand right now transport wise.

They don’t have to play a few games at Leichhardt or Campbelltown at all. At least not as many as they do.

Currently the Tigers have 5 home game venues for 2019, that’s ridiculous. They’re spread too thin.

The Tigers have signed agreements with Campbelltown and the Inner Wests councils for the next two years to play 3 games at both Campbelltown and Leichhardt , so yes they do have to play that many games there, at least for the next two years.

This is different though because the infrastructure already exists, Victoria didn't knock down an existing motorway only to not rebuild it, they just cancelled a new project.

I'm sure they could do it, but I'd bet my lefty once they weighed up the backlash and costs in compensation they'd reconsider. Probably just reduce costs/size of the rebuild if anything.

We’d half built a massive highway which was then abandoned when the next Govt came in, it can happen but is unlikely

4 tigers games at wss seems under-utilised. Given crowds and nostalgia I can see the appeal of
Ieichardt but why bother continuing with Campbelltown?

It's one thing to build them. It's quite another to knock them down and build new ones when in the prime of their life.

Are you for real?
Parra was far from being in the prime of it's life.
It may have had 20000 seats, but the place was a rundown shithole. Catering facilities were atrocious. One should not have to queue for half an hour for a beer or a cup of chips in this day and age.
Toilets under catered. Ever see the queues for the woman's toilets there at half time? It was disgraceful.

As others have said, if funds to rejuvenate stadiums don't come from the govt, where do they come from? We're not the USA or rich Euro Soccer.

So this is it, is it? We've got to all shell out for stadiums to be knocked down and rebuilt every 30 years, whether we like it or not. Someone was responsible for upkeep? What happened? The new one is almost finished now, there's no going back, but can we expect it to be another rundown shithole in three decades from now? I live in a house built in 1970 by the Housing Commission. At almost 50 years old it's nowhere near its use by date. During that 50 years the backyard dunny was knocked down and an internal WC was installed without needing to knock the house down. If stadiums need more toilets, build more toilets. Even the freestanding fibro garage at my place is still perfectly good. Why can't sporting stadiums last as long as fibro garages?

Governments, especially Liberal ones, are far too profligate with public money to the benefit of their donors.

If there was a fire at the old parra, I’d hate to think the repercussions for the people in the lower terraces. The concourses above them were not very wide, if you were lining up for a beer you were crammed against the wall because of the people walking past.

The whole joint was mutton dressed as lamb.

It’s not really maintainence, more capacity and fan expectation. Things change, amount of women and kids attending games now compared to 30 years ago as an example. Modern stadiums are built more future proofed than they were back then but ywe h in 30 years times will have changed and today’s stadiums will probably require upgrading again.

Because your f**king fibro garage doesn’t have 300k people using it every year causing wear and tear nor does it have to worry about the fact there has been change in requirements for disabled and females members of society.

There’s a point where its not financially viable to keep putting lipstick on a pig and its cheaper and easier to bulldoze it.

Agree with some of your post and disagree with other points.
We live in Australia mate. Poor planning for decades is why we are in this deplorable state of lack of infrastructure and connections to stadiums. Finally, we have a state govt (I've never been a Liberal voter) who are actually making massive progress with infrastructure right throughout the city. I'm thankful for small mercies and If I have to catch a train and a tram to a stadium to have a short less than 5 minute walk, I'll take it. It'll be better serviced than any other stadium in Sydney. No further than ANZ is from Olympic Park station and no further that what Allianz will be from the light rail there. It's better than what we have had for decades.

On the other hand, I agree that a stadium over the Central railway lines would be a game breaker. It's the absolute best location for an inner city stadium. Unfortunately though, this city's reluctance to go over and beyond in it's design and planning will ensure that it never happens. Don't forget the most unpalatable influence the power brokers of the SCG Trust have over EVERY govt. It's sickening that these ego maniacs can hold back this city's stadium infrastructure for nothing more than their Eastern Suburbs benefits. Hence the scaling back of the ANZ upgrade, and what's even more sickening...….the push to get Spotless upgraded to 35000, when GWS are lucky to get 5000 of their own fans to any home game. They are leveraging the upgrade on the Thunder, who play their for 6 weeks a year.

If our politicians weren't so week kneed, this city would be sweet. Power and corruption rules.

Not since 1988. It was almost new then. They never improved on Cumberland Oval for atmosphere. These things ought to last longer than 30 years.
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Dude. Parra was f**ked it had to go. Its the one stadium in all these discussions that 100% needed to be torn down and started again.

Your asbestos lined garage has a car parked in it every night. It's demands are never anything more.

With your line of thinking, I'd still be getting splinters in my arse sitting on old wooden benches at the old Cumberland Oval. FMD.

Parra got to a point where the old Cumberland oval was almost better.
At least at the old Cumbo, there were kids walking around selling half melted ice-creams and a bloke walking around selling peanuts "in the shell or sugar coated"!!
