Hmmm $1.5b for hospitals and schools through NSW or a rebuild of two stadiums that might sell out once a year or the next time Taylor Swift arrives... Not sure you can really try fighting fire with fire on this one. Even KPMG assessment didn’t really champion much economic benefit from the rebuilds

You do understand or perhaps not, that 3 rectangular codes will be using the stadiums. Not just rugby league.Soccer internationals,Union internationals.NRL semis /finals and G/F
Yep nothing to see here.
It was OK for the Labor state Govt to waste money on Spotless and money toward the SCG in the past.
Little chance of Sydney getting a Soccer world cup, with one decent stadium ,and one old antiquated one with terrible female facilities.
Yeah do go on .
This new Labor leader has less of a clue and less charisma than a pot plant.
I see a new hospital extension in the shire a new one in the west Sydney , and one in the Nprth, and there are others.

Why would you play NRL GF anywhere but Sydney in an 85k stadium? Unless you want to play at MCG cause you can get 100k. Bearing in mind suncorp and ANZ are pretty much the same age the NRLs empty threat to move the GF is just BS. At least when NFL or NBA threaten a city about building a new stadium they can relocate the team to another city.

Can you imagine how pissed off NSW people would be if the GF moved to 50k stadium? The AFL would love the backlash. NRL would have to be the biggest morons in the world to move it from ANZ regardless of if it’s rebuilt or not

If they’re paid to move it, they will. Ie. the payment makes up for the shortfall in ticket revenue.

Sure, some people will be pissed, but sydneysiders are a pretty apathetic mob.

$1.5 billion is tiny in comparison to the health & education budgets. It’s up to the politicians to explain that, though.

Assuming the contract gets signed if/ before he gets elected, wont his promise have no effect on the outcome?

Daley is arguing that the contract is with the Trust, not the govt. Therefore the govt wouldn’t be breaking any contracts.

He’s saying to the trust, be careful what you sign because you’ll have to fund it.

Wether this is correct or not I have no idea.

if the Libs are smart, they will write into the building contract that if the contract is cancelled the state gov will have to pay the contractors in 1.5 times the $$ back. Make it so that if they do lose power, Labor have no choice but to build it as it will cost more to get out of it.

That wouldn’t be smart for the liberals, that would be electoral poison.

Sure, there need to be some penalty in the contract, but not at an exorbitant level.

Plus Daley is arguing the contract for the SFS isn’t even with the govt.

If ANZ still managed to get done f**k this would be hilarious.

The stadiums are hardly the exclusive use of rugby league. There are other rectangular codes that will use them.
Labor gone really well so far, ask Foley.

A spokesman for the NRL said its memorandum of Understanding with the NSW Government, which requires a new stadium at Moore Park and a major upgrade at Olympic Park, would be at risk if the stadium at Moore Park was not rebuilt.

In return, the NRL has agreed to play the grand final and a State of Origin match in Sydney for the next 25 years.

The spokesman said that if Allianz Stadium was not rebuilt, the agreement would be void and the NRL would have to consider its options for major matches.

“That is not what we want to do … we want to see new world-class sporting facilities built in Sydney,” the spokesman said.

The whole uproar over spending $1.5billion is f**king stupid.

This year the NSW government spent $25billion on health. Almost another $6billion on education. Every single year, and that cost goes up.

Assume the stadiums have a lifespan of 30 years. Being generous by not accounting for inflated costs and budget rises that the health and education budgets will have over the next 30 years, that's just under $1trillion dollars spent on health and education over the lifespan of these stadiums.

This investment in these stadiums is literally going to cost 1/1000th than what we'll spend on health and education. And the stadiums will actually generate income for the state that goes back to f**king hospitals and schools.

Obviously these figures and open to interpretation and can be skewed. But a one off injection of $1.5billion into schools and hospitals isn't going to make much difference. But the SFS and ANZ are going to have to be rebuilt someday, and this spare $1.5billion is unlikely to come again.

This is just classic politics using a political football to get elected, and the public, like the f**king dummies they are, buy it.

This means the SFS won’t be able to be used because it’s dangerous.

Roosters are going to have to move to Redfern.

No, it’s doing what the vast majority of citizens want. The economic argument for this investment is weak.

Labor should look at building one good rectangular. Two is just dumb.

The economic argument for many govt ventures is weak, however there’s more to govt infrastructure than economics.

Govt build things the private sector wouldn’t touch for that very reason.

The NSW govt is spending $350m on extending the NSW art gallery. The economics for that are even worse, you won’t hear much about it, though.

If we don’t spend money on the SFS now, it will need to have significant investment within the decade anyway.

Thank goodness WSS is already being built. I just hope that the Tigers continue to play there. I'd be happy not to have to go back to ANZ as it currently is... unless somehow we make the grand final, of course...
