So they’re putting in seats first and then add the standing room later?

Originally they were going to transform the area every season, ie install seats for the NRL season. I don’t think that’s really necessary tbh. Some NRL fans might like the standing, and it doesn’t take up prime space for the NRL.

It could be read like that, but it was badly worded.
My understanding is that once approval is received which it states is a formality, the safe standing section will be installed.
It will be permanent and will accommodate both the Eels and Wanderers. When the Wanderers are playing, they fold the seats up and lock them into position. When the Eels are playing, they fold them down and lock them into position.

better than suncorp?

yeah nah.

You might be surprised mate.
Smaller venue, steeper stands, perfect capacity. Modern facilities for both plebs and corporates.
I reckon if there is 25000 in WSS, and 25000 in Suncorp, you'll find that WSS does indeed shit all over Suncorp for a match day experience.
You might even find that the new Cowboys stadium is also better than Suncorp under the same circumstances.

Interesting, I could still see some of those seats being damaged by active supporters.

Why do you think that? The majority of damage caused by actives is due to jumping up and down on the seats at old stadiums where the plastic is tired. They won't do that with this system. They won't need to.

People like to climb up when others are standing around them, shorter people will inevitably try to get higher. Not saying there’s malice involved, just what people do.

Mmmm, ok. The seats are locked into position in safe standing mode. Nobody will be able to fold them down and then climb or stand on them.

Why? You can pretty much spit between the SCG and the SFS, the same goes for the MCG and AAMI Park.
ANZ and WSS aren’t competing against each other.
The MCG isn't going to host NRL games and AAMI park isn't going to host AFL games. Same thing in the case with SFS and SCG except the SFS is undergoing the billion dollar sparkly lights installation so the Roosters have no choice.

If the Parramatta Eels and the Parramatta Wanderers were so desperate to play in a better stadium they surely could have went ten minutes down the road to ANZ stadium. If they were desperate to play in a smaller and more recent stadium, they should have been content with the western sydney stadium not being on the edge of the Sydney cbd and instead actually be in, uh, western sydney? Like 35-40 minutes more west to be accurate.

Yeah but with the rail behind they could still balance themselves & climb up on to the edge of the seat. I was surprised because the daily Tele article said the seats would be removed.

It’s a ridiculous suggestion, the two stadiums aren’t even really competing for the same events. In fact venues NSW are encouraging the smaller games to be played at Bankwest stadium in order to save money.

A major point of bankwest stadium is to provide a better atmosphere for club games, something ANZ can’t do. You could have it right next door to ANZ and it would still have a purpose.

The SCG did host NRL games though, I’ve been in the last few years.
I would argue the old Paramatta stadium was actually better than ANZ, I’m not really sure what point you’re trying to make. The state government are trying to make Paramtta the cities second CBD, it’s not unrealistic to expect a decent stadium to be in the cities second CBD.

Ding, ding, ding. Exactly! Which is why I think as a game we’d do better to surrender the $800m ANZ re-development in negotiations in favour of another $350m WSS style stadium at Homebush for the Bulldogs and Rabbits. Vastly improve the fan experience for the 22-24 club games played in the precinct and leave an untouched ANZ for just Grand Finals, Origin and one or two other showcase matches each year. We’d be able to say we’re doing our bit for the tax payer while allowing the next government an out from the mess too. Everyone wins.

Leigh.

I'd be all for BankWest being Sydney Sports' Marvel Stadium if the transportation in this state wasn't complete trash.

Speaking as a Penrith fan so probably will be viewed as biased, but the sight of 8-10k Panthers fans leaving half time despite us being in front by two because they had no cover from the horrid weather and seeing them essentially form a mosh pit at one of the three narrow entrances to get out was horrible. It genuinely looked so unsafe. Our average crowd has climbed 5k in just a few years and it's only going to keep climbing. Just really disappointed that situation could happen again unless we go forty minutes to a newer stadium when Parra couldn't move ten.

Oh well.
