Compare them by all means if you wish, but at least go to some kind of effort is what I'm saying. Bald comparisons of the total amount are unhelpful and don't add to any discussion.

Good, cya

The fact the subject matter is about stadiums, and this was a diversion when TV deals were brought up, me going into a long discourse about the why's ,wherefores and reasons for the difference ,is boring as b*tsh*t. Hence the bald ,short comparison.

Random thoughts

I would like to see Newcastle get an upgrade eventually, or at least some attention to the amenities at the ground. The 4G service there is awful and PA system is generally lousy. There were plans to expand on the Northern/Southern ends should Australia had got the soccer world cup, so I couldn't see the capacity getting an increase anytime soon.

How about the rest, what other grounds could do with a spruce up? Penrith?

Shark Park needs a redo, I recommend a cage for the likes of the Sloth to keep him away from society. He can be fed copious amounts of slops throughout the game, whilst typing out his anti rl bile.
Perhaps Taronga has a spare one?

Place him in stocks down one end of the ground for the masses to throw rotten produce at whenever there is a boring passage of play or a stoppage - the reddish hue of rotten tomatoes will blend nicely with his roseate complexion, not to mention the odour.

Ol Fitzy would have a problem with this and will be writing his next book about it. How a community sports club is ripping off the NSW taxpayer

They've spent $125 mill on nib which has been a great improvement but it still needs same again at least. It needs a new west stand for corporates, a roof over the new south stand and something doing with the shed end, maybe a sit/standing terrace style eventually. Another $200mill should see Perth have a you beaut 30k stadium!

NSW Government dismisses Opposition’s 11th hour bid to stop Allianz Stadium demolition

The NSW Government has dismissed an 11th hour bid by the Labor Opposition to stop the demolition of Sydney’s Allianz Stadium, revealing that the “bobcats will be moving in” on the site by early next month.

NSW Sports minister, Stuart Ayres, today rejected claims the Berejiklian Government was acting against the will of NSW voters by proceeding with the $730 million stadium in Sydney’s Moore Park, just three months before the NSW election.

He said NSW’s $2 billion vision for three new world class stadiums had been in train for more than two years, with the first of the new stadiums in Sydney’s west — the $360 million Bankwest stadium in Parramatta — due to be opened in April.

“The Olympics were 20 years ago and Sydney is now at the back of the pack,” Mr Ayres told The Australian.

“Without world class facilities the best sports and entertainment events will skip Sydney altogether.

“This is why NSW is running last because people like Michael Daley (Labor Opposition leader) get in the way of getting NSW back to being number one.”

Voter backlash over the $2 billion stadium building has been seized upon by NSW Labor after polling last year revealed up to 60 per cent of voters thought the government’s much vaunted “three-stadia” plan was a waste of public money.

“I’m asking the premier.. on behalf of the people of NSW, stop the demolition and wait until the election,” NSW Labor Opposition leader, Michael Daley said.

“Only 43 days until we go into caretaker mode.. there is no good reason to knock it down.”

Mr Daley said while the Berejiklian Government had pressed ahead with its “grandiose” vision, the $2.2 billion being ploughed into sporting venues was desperately needed for Sydney’s schools, hospitals and its failing public transport system.

He said the government had a long track record of “poor planning and mistakes”, from its “disastrous light rail” project to the new crisis-riven Northern Beaches Hospital in Sydney.

He said if Labor was elected to government it would “stop the madness” and move to have any refurbishments to the Allianz Stadium funded privately.

Mr Ayres told The Australian the demolition and rebuilding of the Olympic Stadium at Homebush in Sydney’s west and the Sydney Football Stadium at Moore Park was the only way NSW could hope to compete with a series of bigger and better stadiums that had been built across the country in the past few years.

The NRL, he said, had threatened to pull out of Sydney for the grand final unless the new stadiums were built.

He said the new $1.6 billion Perth Optus Stadium, opened last year with a 60,000 seat capacity along with the northern stand at Melbourne’s MCG had set a “new benchmark’.

“Our stadiums are old, the fans don’t like them,” Mr Ayres said.

“In Victoria they have built Docklands Stadium, AAMI Park and they’ve rebuilt the entire Melbourne Cricket Ground — all since the Sydney football stadium was built in 1988.”

The rebuilt Sydney Football Stadium will be a 45,000-seat venue and is expected to be completed by 2012.

Construction on the Olympic Stadium is slated to begin this year. Touted touted as the new “crowning jewel’’ of the nation’s sporting venues, it will have a seating capacity of 75,000.

$50 million just announced for an upgrade of the NSW tennis centre:

https://www.foxsports.com.au/tennis...t/news-story/143fc3f676ed955e1e5657a1880e73e9

I know the ATP Cup is trying to be a major mens event (there's plenty of rankings points and prizemoney available, way more than the mickey-mouse Sydney International), but it's only guaranteed in Sydney for the next three years.

I wonder if the stadium naysayers will have anything to say about this?

'just announced' is a stretch, that's a week ago now. I've seen a couple of comments similar to yours but generally it's been fairly quiet apart from Labor trying to stop the SFS demolition.

Waverley Council has received legal advice suggesting there is a flaw in the government's plan to demolish Allianz Stadium.

Updated Updated 1 hour ago

A Sydney council has received "damning" legal advice suggesting there's a fundamental flaw in the state government's plan to demolish Allianz Stadium.

Waverley Council has received independent legal advice that the government botched the approval process when it decided to demolish Allianz and build a new stadium in its place at Moore Park.

AAP understands the advice suggests the planning minister didn't form the opinion that the new stadium would exhibit "design excellence" as required under the Sydney Local Environmental Plan.

Waverley Mayor John Wakefield says Liberal members on the council are now attempting to prevent the council from taking the government to court over the matter.

"They are stymieing the process," the Labor mayor told AAP on Wednesday.

"What they're trying to do is get us to the point where the demolition occurs."

The council's legal advice states there was a "jurisdictional requirement" for Planning Minister Anthony Roberts to satisfy the Sydney LEP.

It supports legal advice provided to the NSW Labor opposition in 2018.

Waverley Council on Monday night resolved to write to Mr Roberts informing him of the potential flaw in the government's approval process.

The minister would be given a week to respond before Waverley contacted other local governments to co-join a legal challenge against the state government, Mr Wakefield said.

But three Liberal councillors - who the mayor believes were briefed by the planning minister - moved a rescission motion delaying the letter.

"There is no doubt they were briefed by the minister's office ... it's a tactic to delay the process," Mr Wakefield said. "We're running out of time."

AAP understands demolition works are scheduled to begin in late January or February.

Mr Wakefield believes the potential error by the planning minister occurred because the government was rushing the process to have the stadium demolished as soon as possible.

"His (Mr Roberts') moral code and his behaviour is his business, I don't claim that there has been anything particularly suspicious, other than his rush," the mayor said.

"I have not at any point said the minister is complicit or malicious in his behaviour. It's an error."

The Berejiklian government plans to rebuild the stadium at Moore Park at a cost of more than $730 million.

An upgrade to ANZ Stadium at Olympic Park and a new stadium in Parramatta will take the government's total spend to almost $2 billion.

Liberal councillor Leon Goltsman, who backed the rescission motion, said the legal action was "just a political ploy" by Labor councillors to help Opposition Leader Michael Daley.

Mr Roberts has been contacted for comment.

Looking at the pics its already begun, its a bit late now! I hope Labor win just to see a embarrassing backflip from them not seen since DCE. No way they cant go ahead with a rebuild now.

Structural demolition hasn't started at all yet, they're only removing seats. Still a bit of water to flow under the bridge before that part starts, hence the pushes to stop it now.

Does anyone know or asked Opposition leader Michael Daley when he last attended an event at Allianz stadium?

It’s correct of the sport minister to suggest it is archaic compared with stadiums of other states..

For mine the Adelaide Oval, MCG, Etihad (marvel) Gabba/Suncorp wipes the floor for spectator experience against anything in NSW presently. I’ve not been to the others eg Optus in Perth, AAMI Park etc

Only the newly built MA noble and Bradman Stands are at an elite standard in NSW, compatible to others in Australia, and this caters for members..

Allianz is like the VN Commodore for Holden released around the same year. Might have done the job back in the day and still chugs along but it is stuck back in 1988 when it entered the world, and everyone else is driving around in 2018 model supercharged V8’s

What made me laugh about the article in The Australian quoted up thread is the following bit -

He said if Labor was elected to government it would “stop the madness” and move to have any refurbishments to the Allianz Stadium funded privately.

I find it funny as Daley cited the Northern Beaches Hospital as a fiasco, and it is one that was funded privately also. It is so good, after criticising it, Daley wants the same process for funding upgrades of public stadiums? How f'ing stupid is that?!
