The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

The trusts preference was for a knock down & rebuild on Moore park opposite. This was the plan 3/4 years ago that caused so much drama, at that point ANZ was never in the discussion.

Yeah I remember. It was knocked back by Baird and ANZ was prioritised at the time. When Baird resigned Ayers and the SCG trust went in hard again and got Allianz prioritised over it.

There’s no doubt the trusts influence here & Ayres have pushed things for their own agenda.

But that doesn’t mean Allianz stadium didn’t have some pretty big issues that needed addressing. A simple tart up wasn’t going to get it to where it needs to be.

After seeing all the pics of BankWest stadium I’ve come to realise that the ANZ redevelopment isn’t actually that important for the NRL. It makes much more strategic sense for the bulldogs & tigers to move there, and for Souths to move to Allianz. Use ANZ twice a year.

Its a shame that ANZ will most likely be the casualty from the fallout over the SFS, but at least WSS is built and will see plenty of use by NRL clubs and other Sydney teams.

Assuming ANZ plans will be scrapped, hopefully a refurb of its lower bowl will be on the cards in the next decade as big events become more fiercely fought over by Aus cities. Shit politics and self interest Re: SFS has ruined the original stadiums strategy which would have benefitted Sydney the most.

If we wait a decade we might even get a complete rebuild, that’s the 30 year mark after all.

From a purely NRL perspective I don’t think ANZ is that important. But from a Sydney perspective it is.

Ayres deserves a lot of flak though. He’s been in bed with the trust from day one likely because he wants to built legsncy projects for himself. The trust didn’t decide to knock down Allianz first.

ANZ should of been done 1st regardless of what is decided for Allianz. Strange though as Ayres is Minister for Western Sydney too...

The bottom line is a self interest motivated group like the SCG trust should never have been allowed so much influence, they should’ve been told to sit the f**k down and manage whatever stadium they’re given, with all decisions on major construction and stadium strategy made impartially with a view to overall state benefit.

Why do you think polling is indicating he may well lose his seat? Labor have been running hard on him saying he doesn't give a stuff about the locals and using the SFS issue as a prime example. Last poll mentioned publicly had him deadlocked with the ALP candidate.

There could still be a lot of stink on Sydney's stadium upgrades in ten year's time. It's already been 4-5 years since the whole stadiums discussion started and the SFS won't be completed until 2022. Looking into a rebuild for 2029 may still be too close to the current set of upgrades for dickheads like Fitzsimons to keep his mouth shut (especially if the SFS fits all of the ARU's needs in Sydney).

ANZ isn't so important for 90+% of NRL matches but having the stadium in its current configuration, in comparison with what we'll be getting with WSS and SFS, might keep a few away from event games and finals. I agree that WSS will be great for games below 30k, but event games that could be 50k+ might only pull 40k until ANZ is addressed.

Easier to do one stadium rather than several though. I think the overall plan was a bit ambitious politically, they should have announced them in stages

I'll wait for the response from the trust....as to why this $18 Million spend wasn't contemplated.
The $18 Million expenditure was just to illuminate the exit signs, upgrade the electricity boards and not much else.It did not address the needs for toilets, safety , fire exits and all other upgrades to complete the requirements for OHS etc

As usual the Daley camp have only one policy, and it's full of holes pretty much like Allainz stadium was. Don't understand with such a small percentage in the overall spend why it's an issue. Pwrhaps they want to see th State continue its poor position behind all other mainland states, then again if you're silly enough or so young you don't remember the disaster of the last Labour NSW govt , you get what you vote for.

Maybe they should have just given ANZ to the AFL and built a new rectangular stadium out there.

Would have saved on the Spotless thing too.

It wouldn't have saved on Spotless though. Don't forget it was built for the Royal Easter Show when they moved from Moore Park. When the Easter Show is on, I believe Spotless is unavailable for anyone else.

After that dope Daley’s performance last night in the debate where he didn’t have a clue on his own figures the Allianz stadium rebuild is safe. A person with even half a brain shouldn’t give him their vote.

f**k off Labor.

I was built as a venue or the Olympics and as the new main arena for the Royal Easter Show, it has since been upgraded for the AFL and RAS use.

Dont forget the Greater Wombats Sydney conned the Blacktown Council to build an AfL stadium for their use in their council area, which as they appear to do, never use it.

Their political skills in getting things built are without peer, Daley lives in the middle of Souths territory and is happy to screw NRL, end of.
