Gus can say whatever he wants, but as long as it's a single tenant stadium I don't think the state government will be slinging the Panthers a quarter of a bill for a stadium just for them to use.

Originally there was one planned more towards the airport. I guess it is just needing a 2nd or 3rd tennant to make it a reality

It doesn’t really help if ANZ is delayed by a year.

Either way a grand final has to go to the SCG. ANZ is a 2 year build, Allianz is a 3-4 year build. May as well start ASAP.

SCG is fine for Origin and GF but can it and WSS handle being pretty much the only 2 stadium used for Soccer, RU and RL? There will be overlap but if you can limit it then atleast new Allianz can take some extra work for 2 or so years until ANZ is finished

You’d need to delay the ANZ rebuild by 3 years if you want the new Allianz to take some of the burden. One year is not enough.

3 years puts it right into the next election cycle. I doubt the govt warns that.

Yeah it is a tough one. Want to make sure it is done enough that can't be stopped when the next election is on but need to have the facilities to service the 3 sports (4 with Swans at SCG) and the problems with that

Penrith should have pushed for WSS to be built at Blacktown, there is no justification for them getting their own stadium!

Penrith were told when the stadium plan was initially announced 3 years ago that there’d be a future outer western Sydney stadium. Not saying it’s justified, but that’s what they were told.

I’ve mentioned before but Penrith should try and get the Matilda’s to base themselves out there. They’ve played a few game at the stadium and drawn good crowds. I’d also try and get any FFA Cup matches of the Wanderers.

I could see Penrith getting a staged improvement, similar to that of NIB stadium in Perth. Build a new Eastern grandstand first and go from there.

Under this Government the Panthers have little hope of getting money out of the NSW Government for Penrith Stadium. Ayres as Minister for Sport said years ago they will not spend NSW Government money on stadiums not owned by the NSW Government. That was back when Baird was Premier and the Government have pretty much stuck to that line ever since. I doubt it will change, even allowing for the fact that Ayres might be moved out of the Sports portfolio in the coming reshuffle.

https://westernweekender.com.au/2016/04/new-stadium-still-planned-for-outer-west/

From the sounds of it. Ayres promised it would be somewhere else than Parra. Penrith agreed to play at it until it was Parramatta. It would be better where the roads/rail meet for the airport line

While the stadium strategy was being finalised, the Penrith Panthers Board agreed to take two home games away from Penrith Stadium to the newly refurbished Parramatta Stadium from 2019.

It was seen as a strategic move to help get the stadium strategy over the line and assist Penrith’s bid for the outer western Sydney stadium, but it is understood the Panthers have now withdrawn that commitment.

Personally...Just fix Penrith as needed.

The development at Panthers makes it perfect to host pre game concerts. Family day things etc then just walk over

I think they were duped into believing there will be an outer Western Stadium, in any event after the fuss kicked up over the current rebuilds it is highly unlikely we will see more stadiums built any time soon.

Penrith pushed for the stadium to be built in Penrith when they should have been pushing for the centralised position of Blacktown and a stadium that could have been shared by atleast 3-4 teams.

Not sure they were duped, the local member is the sports minister. It makes sense for him to want to build something in his own backyard. But the politics have since shifted.

I agree that a whole new stadium is unlikely, but I don’t think a staged development would attract too much attention. Do one stand first and go from there.

They’ve said a lot things, many of those have since changed.

Penrith is a knife edge seat both state & federally. There’s nothing politicians like more than pork barrelling.

Plus they could easily come to an agreement to buy the stadium off the local council.

No it is not a safe seat. However, based on the seats they lost outside the Sydney metropolitan area, if money is going to be spent on sports infrastructure I'd expect to see it spent in regional New South Wales and not anywhere near Sydney (at least in the short to medium term).

I really don't believe that the outer Western Stadium was ever going to happen. I know Ayres is the local member, I had my 5 year old daughter pushing for me to vote for him because he promised a basketball court for her school lol.

Panthers Stadium is now probably the best single-use club ground in Sydney. Just continue to do minor upgrades to it, and a 10/2 split or 9/3 split where the Panthers play their derbys at BankWest is probably what will happen going forward.

Realistically, Manly or the Saints would kill for a stadium as good as Panthers is now at Brookvale or Kogarah.

If you put it near the Airport was between Penrith and Campbelltown. So WT and Panthers could use it and actually Liverpool council so maybe Dogs use it. New Soccer team gives plenty of tennants...But the horse has bolted now

Well Phil Gould & Ayres have a very close relationship, Ayres even asked Gould to write an endorsement for him at the election when things were looking tight. It won’t surprise me to see something happen at Penrith.

Penrith Stadium is better than Leichhardt, Brookvale, Kogarah and Shark Park but it is far from perfect.

Only about 25% of the capacity would be undercover.

The queues for food and drinks under the Eastern Grandstand often block the walkway. It gets quite congested under there.

Penrith is the only one of the Sydney suburban grounds I see with a real future. Decent now and the Leagues club has endless cash to splash, they could realistically afford to upgrade it.
Maybe Campbeltown Sports, with the new A League team giving it a good chance of quality upgrades.

Kogarah, Brookvale, Shark Park, Leichhardt. Single club parks, very little financial backing from owners and/or councils. Their use in first grade will decline over the coming years.
