I would advise everyone to attend an event at Bankwest before the western Sydney wankers destroy it on July 20

It'll be great when Sydney FC use it first in the finals - possibly even the GF

in meantime, the harold matts (16s) and sg ball (18s) grand finals are being played at New Cumberland Oval on Saturday 4th May. What a thrill for the young fellas.

Maybe pie in the sky but I reckon you could build a stadium around Heathcote/Loftus along the highway that Saints and Sharks could share. The Princes HWY and existing rail line would service transport requirements with little/no modifications I would’ve thought. The oft talked about southern A League franchise would see it gets used all year round.

this was literally southern expansions proposal.
it would have been awesome

Agree though that for the amount of time it would get filled here, it's pointless. Spurs will fill it over 50 times a season

Ohhh yeah. The new WHL is the sexiest new ground in world sport.

Ideally a hypothetical knockdown-rebuild at ANZ would be some 70-80k super stadium modelled on a hybrid of WHL and AT&T in Dallas.

One of the things I liked best about the stadium is you can buy GA seats but then move around the ground and watch from numerous excellent standing vantage points which are arguably the best spots in the ground. Hopefully this continues without ushers moving you on.
I watched the first half in my seat behind the uprights then watched from side on standing at different sections.

AT&T has a full roof over it. I don't think it needs to be that frivolous.

The interesting thing about White Hart Lane is the two pitches. That's something that Sydney definitely needs. In the winter you have RL and RU on one pitch, concerts and whatnot on another, and then same thing in summer with soccer.

Ideally ANZ rebuild would have two pitches, close to field as possible, cover the fans from rain, and nice big concourses. Everything else would be an added bonus.

There have been some crazy designs in recent years, in particular in Minneapolis and Atlanta. White Hart Lane is more traditional. But I'd do a step further and make the design very simple. Something like Bilbao would be ideal:

I think WSS could have had more ground level seating in the western terrace if the boxes were 5 to 10m futher back
Yeah - western side seemed to be low on seating with majority looking like corporate and media facilities

On the plus side, it should make crowds on TV look better as most seats will be available on the eastern side

I think there is potential to increase the capacity in the distant future by redesigning the Western side. They could get it up to at least 35k by halving the amount of corporate area and replace it with seating.

Said no one ever.

Usually redesigns increase corporate seating, not get rid of it, so you can rest assured that's never happening.

As for the increase, why would anyone want that? 30,000 is perfect capacity. And the likelihood that Parra's gonna be selling out every game isn't high. Once things settle down, the hope would be that the Eels consistently break 20,000 at Bankwest, with derbies hitting 30k.

I can't imagine Bankwest capacity becoming a problem anytime soon. By the time it does, NSW Govt will probably be knocking down all the stadiums and rebuilding again.

Yep. No club worth its salt is going to cut corporate facilities. That is where the big money for the club comes from. It is why the Tigers started taking games away from Leichhart Oval and Campbelltown and moving them to ANZ. Corporate types were not going to shell out $200 to $300 a ticket to sit in an open air box, on a crappy plastic bucket seat with an esky and a luke warm meat pie balanced on their lap.

Some local derbies in the past have gotten 50k so factoring in the possibility of clubs improving the game day experience as this stadium already does that sort of crowd could happen several times through the season.
I like the idea of there being a possibility of increasing the capacity without completely rebuilding again.

Yeah. No need for a roof.
But given demand for different types of ticket in the NRL, it would be beneficial to emphasise side seating over large and largely empty ends.

The Bilbao ground is great. As is Gdansk to be fair, but both are far too small.

Estadio de Luz in Lisbon would be a more cost effective rough design blueprint getting closer to 70k.

Largely irrelevant since we're getting a spruce up instead. Just hope the new ground gives us the right pitch to view rectangular sports. Those renders from the last few years at least look promising.

.

Fair enough yeah, in that case US stadiums serve as a better inspiration I think (although as you say all moot at this point). Ends aren't nearly as important there, as you can see by some of the most recent builds there:

One thing I like about US stadiums is the elevated seating. You can see it in Minneapolis and Atlanta in particular. Personally I don't understand why people pay top money for seats close to the ground when the viewing angle is so awful. You can barely make out what's happening when play is on the other side of the ground. Would be cool to see raised stands here, maybe even as extreme as in some Germany stadiums.
