Wonder why they didnt do a plan for the North and South end as they propose but leave L4 and L6 as is

Just remodel the lower tier on the East and West side

Trying to bring the upper decks forward reduces capacity and increases the costs on a big way

That would reduce the capacity even further though as it would leave the existing level 3 and 4 unusable as part of the field will be blocked from view by the new lower tiers. Far from ideal. And it would also mean that the stadium doesn't gain the extra space behind the upper tiers to utilise for new bar and entertainment facilities.

This is my thinking too.

But from a rugby league perspective you could take the $300m from Pirtek & the proposed $200m for local grounds and make 3 of the local grounds a pretty good standard , particularly for the teams that are far away from the main grounds.

But as you say it's likely too late for that.

Not to mention the govt doesn't own then and doesn't want to own them so why should they pay for them?

That cross plan would suggest most of the lower bowl seats will have little or no weather protection, particularly in east and west stands? North and south stands look a shed load better than current though.

I thought the new version will have a retractable roof, therefore the new lower bowl will be covered if needed?

They do own most of them indirectly.

Councils only exist at the whim of the state govt.

Retractable roof.

No they don't. if council owned, state govt has no rights what so ever. When nib was decided on to upgrade the state govt had to buy a lease off the local govt that owned it for $25million.

Didn't realise the roof was included. That's a lot of work for the amount they are after. I see the screening is just led on seats rather than screening. Will still be a empty cavernous bowl with 20k in it.

They'd be better building a state of the art 30k with full roof at Moore park than what they are proposing and using rest for Anz. Then At least Sydney would have two decent club stadiums and one decent big event stadium.

Local councils in NSW are merely an extension of the state govt , they can sack them , dissolve them , merge them at their whim.

ipso facto they own them indirectly.

State govt often give money to local councils for special projects anyway. Nothing new there at all.

I agree , although I'd go slightly larger at 35k.

Must be different to WA then, state govt here just attempted to force mergers and got smashed by lga's and had to give it up with serious egg on their faces.

We're going through mergers now , some councils have already accepted their fate and started the process.

There's talk of some legal action though , guess we'll see.

I'm thinking it was just a negotiating position from the clubs , they likely knew it would be rejected.

It'll take big balls for Baird to go against them again.

I think your correct and if so well played NRL clubs.

This should help the NRL clubs get ANZ up to scratch and put a stop to the new 800m-1billion stadium from going ahead at Moore Park.

Lets hope this is why they put the 200m for local grounds in there.

The only way this will end is the NRL being shafted. The NRL has very little say in anything, especially if the AFL have come to the table.

I think NRL has to be careful, end of day nsw govt just wants shiny new trophies to play dick measuring with other oz cities. Doubt they really care what's best for NRL clubs or NRL fans. They could just say it's too hard and plough the money into the scg giving them the shiny stadium to match Perth. Adelaide and melbournes new afl stadiums.

If they cop flak they will just say it was the nrl's clubs fault for not guaranteeing games therefore not really wanting new stadiums and they built them a new stadium at parra so stop moaning.

Been around govt's long enough to know decisions they make are rarely in the best interest of the masses

The NRL should get the ARU and FFA bosses in a room together and get them onside ASAP. All three rectangular field codes have pretty much the same vested interests in this debate. If all three pull together along with their respective clubs/franchises, the State govt will find it very hard to resist. Throw the AFL and Cricket the carrot of some funding for upgrades to the SCG and Spotless and that should keep them out of the way too.

The five-point plan obtained by Fairfax Media on Thursday outlined the clubs' list of funding priorities, 1. which included a new stadium at Parramatta 2. $600-$700 million renovation to turn ANZ Stadium into a 72,000-seat permanent rectangular venue.
Next on the priority list was a preference to upgrade Allianz Stadium ($450 million) instead of a knock-down and rebuild that could take up all of the $1.2 billion being pledged.

There is no way Alliance will get its knock down and rebuild at a cost of 1.2b

I doubt they could pull down ANZ interior and sink the pitch, rebuild the stands and put a full retractable roof on for $600mill. That's only $8.3k a seat which is very little by stadium building standards.

Expect Allianz rebuild would cost around $800mill. New Perth stadium is 62.5k for $1billion including a train station and fancy bridge.

They should be pushing for
$400mill new Moore park 30-35k state of the art
$300mill parra
$800mill ANZ refit
$100mill improved Moore park infrastructure

That would seem to be a better outcome all around. NRL leadership is really looking bad in this, their inability to use their new schedule control to convince clubs to play games at the new venues is ridiculous.
