Ha

Haha the horror of having to travel 45mins ten times a year to support your club. Weak as.
thats sydney for you

& its not just RL
the swines played at homebush for a while
crowds went from 70K to less then 30K in a short period of time & that wasn't even 45 mins from the snoody snobby east to anz

the waratahs the same , the pimms & cucumber sandwich crowd in the east & lower north shore got tired of the effort in getting to homebush
crowds dropping from 40K to 10K in a decade

It's too easy when you know they will be playing 10mins from home in a week or so. I used to skip campbo and go to the local. Shit house facilities made it a simple choice

It’s a strange city for sure when it comes to its level of committment to its sports teams. Pretty unique really, if you look at any decent sized city and it’s main team/s drawing significantly higher crowds, swans aside who seem to buck the Sydney trend.

I can see that and why they really do need a home and somewhere in the middle seems to make sense to attract fans in sw and in west/inner west. Which takes us back to the need for a shared stadium with good transport links for tigers and bulldogs.

It really is one of the weirdest identities in Australia, the 5 million person city known around the country for not supporting their sports teams.

I live in newtown and its only about 45 mins to get to Cambo on the train. Not that bad at all. I don't think Liverpool is the answer. Half way between almost everyone satisfies no one

Not that i follow Wests but from my door at St Peters i can drive to Campbelltown in 30 mins, if traffic is ok i could drive to Leichhardt in about 15 mins but if i was going to game at Leichhardt i would get public transport which would take a bit longer but no hassles of finding a parking spot , if i was going to Campelltown would flip a coin on whether to drive or catch the train depending on what time the game was but from where i live it is an easy drive( unless peak hour )

sounds like the council is keen to develop 28hectare Woodward park area Into a public amenity precinct, is that somewhere a stadium could fit? If you see the amazing parklands and public activation areas around optus stadium I could see something similar there being very appealing.

Only logic for Kogorah is they hope Sharks move there. Otherwise it makes zero sense to spend anything on it for 5 games a year. Liverpool, Manly, Penrith. These should be the three priorities in that order.

Liverpool is a poor option. No point building a stadium there

My biased view would be that perhaps the NRL could partner with Campbelltown City Council to improve / replace Campbelltown Stadium for Wests Tigers and Macarthur Bulls.

I expect the dogs would shun it though. Perhaps they can keep using BankWest and/or Olympic stadium.

So much this. I could cope with playing at Bankwest for 2 years if it meant a fully upgraded Campbelltown Stadium to enjoy league and soccer from. There's a huge carpark and rail station right next to it, plus 2 clubs.

I don't see how Wests would lose much money at Campbelltown given it has pretty similar corporate facilities to Penrith and Kogarah.

It probably has the best location as well, right next to the train station and with plenty of room for expansion. Much better than the Liverpool site anyway.

Exactly.

iirc they get charged 75k to play there from council

why do you say that? Geographically it looks within pretty easy reach of the two tigers regions and the dogs region? 20-30km from centre of each area. If you’re not prepared to travel that to support your club you really don’t deserve one.

very few ex balmain fans from that area travel to campbelltown to watch the tigers , similarly few ex wests fans in the Macarthur area go to leichardt
the club has a big supporter base but theres a definite divide due to geography

not sure how its fixed
not even really sure a stadium in liverpool would do it

This why the Wests-Tigers will always be a Leichhardt-Ashfield-Burwood-Ryde based inner west club

Dogs are actually the logical club to takeover the SW Sydney region

They have been trying to build a stadium in Liverpool since the 1950s, then the failed OASIS deal and now getting the NRL to stump up cash

Tell that to tigers fans in the MacArthur area who've supported the club for 21 years. You won't be able just plonk the dogs in there & say .. ta dah.. heres your new club.
Nah
gotta make it work with the otherside of the merger & a new venue shared with the dogs & built by the govt in liverpool where the tigers play most of its games , might be the answer.

Agreed but with supporters of clubs like souths slowly moving west, dogs and tigers fans will also eventually be doing the same over a decade also... i like the idea of a Liverpool shared stadium, but to say its coz that area will be booming due to the airport is false... badgerys creek is right in the middle of nothing, with st marys just north of it, penrith just west of it, and prestons south of it, whilst liverpool maybe east of that, re building penrith stadium might just be a masterstroke for the new airport and future decades, and having campbelltown rebuilt better for a permanent tigers home would also benefit the macarthur area moreso than them at Liverpool.... if bulldogs want to build there then maybe they can do so on their own without pushing for the government to help them, ala shark park

The only problem with Liverpool is that the proposed site is in a terrible location. It is not close to any train station or PT.
The Campbelltown site is much more suitable for a stadium, and Campbelltown itself is much quicker and easier to get to for anyone travelling from the city.

I don't really agree with the premise that the Liverpool site is not close enough to a train station. I have walked that way several times and it is generally a very flat 10 min walk, with a couple of pubs on the way to boot. It is much closer than Bankwest is to Parramatta station.

the biggest code proudly excludes the class of society that can afford to go. Dopey.
I bet it is the only code of football that does that.
