The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Fair call, the problem is they get no Federal money, does not even be discussed as far as I can tell, they should, cannot leave it just to Auckland and privates. Benefit all NZ, do not pretend to know if it is the right place other than Auckland (as in the docks), but geez they need to throw in.

Being in New Zealand, the NZ Warriors are not going to get any money from the NSW or Australian Federal Governments now are they? It is up to their respective local councils and/or the NZ Government to look at.

Do you mean NZ government money? NZ doesnt have a federal system as such. When Labour were in power a while back the government at the time actually offered a fair chunk of the funding for a waterfront stadium to be a showpiece for the 2011 RWC- unfortunately at the time Auckland was still divided on a local government level between 4 different councils and the Auckland regional council (which dealt with ports and rail and a few other things). The proposed stadium was on ARC land and they nixed it, and the 3 councils whose areas the stadium wasn't going to be in weren't keen either. Since then Aucklamd government has been changed and there's a super city council that covers the whole area so a lot of the infighting that stopped those sort of projects happening won't occur so much.

Im hoping a waterfront stadium of 55-60k capacity eventually happens, but in the meantime I'd like to see a modest upgrade to Mt Smart. The two existing stands are OK structure and size wise- put a proper stand at the south end that wraps around to meet the east and west and move the current removable south stand to the north end (so it can be removed to allow for a stage for concerts) and you'd have a pretty good footy stadium with a capacity pushing 30k.

If Canberra could get a 3rd tenant (Aleague) it could tip the balance & get it done earlier.

The projection I last heard was 2025 once the Mr Fluffy stuff is taken care of.

And it's meant to be similar to the Dunedin indoor stadium. (Forsyth Barr)

yeah thats right
i don't think we will get an a league team tho

yeah. its gonna take ages. mr fluffy was a big deal. and with the light rail which will no doubt cost more than they say.

More talk of a stadium at Liverpool

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/ne...d/news-story/1a482ea889f2805a92b2d29a3e2181db

In general I think it has merits but when you consider that ANZ could lose two of its tenants I doubt the govt will go for it.

Its why i wonder if this 4th stadium will ever happen...

I cannot think of a location that would benefit several teams yet wouldn't compete with the current lot.

I was always a bit sceptical about the need for a Parra Stadium redevelopment with ANZ right next door, but the Parra rebuild is a reality that isnt going to change so not much point pretending it isnt there.

Id be more interested in them putting the $ into the regional stadiums (Newcastle, Illawarra). I wonder if NSW Gov would ever contribute to a Canberra stadium.....

It may not happen as a complete stadium , but I could see Penrith getting a significant amount of money to improve the stadium.

Big advantage Penrith has is it's always a swing seat , both federally & state.

Doesn't make it right , just the reality.

This is only the Sydney stadium strategy , let's hope there's separate money to finish Newcastle & do more to Wollongong.

Canberra? Why would they?

Yeah I meant your Federal or whatever it is called government, the regional Auckland council and then privates. The Feds need to kick some cash.

Any money for Canberra Stadium, would come from the Federal and/or ACT Government.

The best idea for this 4th Sydney stadium (given it wont even be discussed for another decade) would be to wait until after the plans for the Badgery Creek airport are finished then find the best location for the transport options associated (this will never be Penrith).

I think this might be the best approach for a 4th stadium. It's really the centre of the future "new west", halfway between Penrith and Campbelltown and could be ideal for the Panthers and the Tigers.

It is an absolute no brainer for Anastasia to announce full funding of cowboys stadium with construction to start at end of this year, townsville is the about the most neediest town for jobs in country right now thanks to clive...

I could even see Bill Shorten fully funding it during campaign...

I think he has already committed to it. (IIRC the funding breakdown was something like Fed-$100m, State-$100m, Local-$50mil)

No doubt he will announce in more detail closer to the election to max the coverage.

So if you want a new Townsville stadium, you know where to vote.....

Old news, it is no longer on the table and funding was confirmed less then a month ago.

Hardly old news and as far as i can see its relevant to this thread and most people on here might not have known its been approved.

Confirmed/on the table/pledged/whatever. The funding from the state government has never really been in doubt or question since April/May last year when she first announced it.

It's the federal gov that are playing hardball/pains in the ass. With the demise of the crocs in the NBL (damn shame), the new stadium might be a bit cheaper now with the attatched entertainment centre to the football stadium probably not required at the moment.

So that would put the pledge at $200mil, and i think the local council is meant to make up the rest...

Itd be shit if the Libs didnt match it and we lost the stadium.

The Illawarra need to get behind that mob from the St George district in Sydney and start attending games whenever they come into town.*

*yes, i'm aware the Dragons have their training facilities in Wollongong, but the perception about the club is that they are from St George and folks from the Illawarra don't attend games.
