The finals aren’t guaranteed to occur. There’s potential, but there’s also another stadium that can host them.

Roosters V Souths last year at Allianz got 15,000.

schedule games for Thursday night you and you get 15k crowds

Top 8 team Broncos v Dragons game yesterday looked like a poor crowd too

Yet later in the year on the weekend the SFS got 44k with people locked out from the member area

There is a lesson there

Be surprised if the SFS got 48k, it only fitted 45,500.

I think the game you’re talking about was at ANZ.

The German pub on the corner is the one

The Bavarian Beir Café? They have moved out. And there is a 200 metre tall hotel and apartment tower just about to start construction next door. The church thing on the left of this pic is the German pub on the corner you are talking about I believe?

Fair enough, looking forward to sampling some of them at the World Nines!

There is also some absolutely fantastic Asian restaurants.
Thai especially. Saute in Phillip st is the best. Absolutely first class food. I always eat there before Eels and Wanderers games.

It's great for the Eels but doesn't quite sit right that the Tigers are lining their pockets by taking home games next door.
As someone said, maybe Wests Ashfield with their squillions can by a pub or bar nearby. Or maybe the RSL club down the road.

They could try to partner with Wentworth LC (Wests have said they dont want full ownership, but maybe the just didnt want to look to aggressive as Balmain was dying).

Yeh, even just a little pub near by as the home game "Tigers Den" would be all they needed

Im not sure the few thousand $'s a few dozen fans may spend in Eels LC would justify not benefiting from the increased revenue bigger crowds, more members and better corporate box sales will make at WSS for the club!

Federal Libs will announce tomorrow they will throw $15mil in for the NQ high performance centre to be built next to the new stadium. Cowbs will put in $15mil themselves (as well as the $10mil for the stadium build) and they’re hoping state gov will throw in $5-10mil. The facility will have James Cook Uni input and use for the students doing sports science.

exciting times up home albeit it a little over the top ($45mil vs brisbane’s $27mil HP centre)

Things are starting to look real good up there. A stadium and facilities up there with the Broncos.

Who's paying for JT's statue though?

I’m prepared to match the Cowboys $15 commitment dollar for dollar. Now, how ‘bout the rest of you blokes? Come on, turn out those pockets you tight bastards.

If only I could get the resident redbacks out of my pockets I'd help. Always handy when it's your turn to shout.

THE NORTH Queensland Cowboys have secured half the funding needed to build a world-class high-performance facility, with the Federal Government to commit $15 million in the Budget. The multipurpose inner-city Cowboys HQ has been spruiked as the saving grace for the North Queensland NRL team and a way to ensure the club remains a force for the next 50 years. Plans for the proposed $50 million Community, Training and High Performance Centre were unveiled in the Bulletinearlier this month.

It will be built next to the new North Queensland Stadium and will incorporate a full-sized training field, community areas, multi-sport high-performance training spaces, sports medicine and sports science laboratories, as well as Stadium and administration offices.

Once built, the facilities could attract touring sports teams and other elite athletes looking for state-of-the art sport science and training facilities.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison will today announce $15 million in funding has been earmarked for the project in the Federal Budget.

Cowboys chairman Laurence Lancini has previously said the club could afford $15 million toward the facility but would need the rest to come from government funding.

The Cowboys have unveiled designs for a world-class high performance facility that will ensure the North Queensland club remains a force in the NRL for the next 50 years. Artists Impression Cox Architecture.

“We applaud this investment as a huge boost for the revitalisation of our city centre and region,” he said.

“This will be a multipurpose community facility and its development will be a confidence booster for our recovering economy.”

LNP candidate for Herbert Phil Thompson said the state-of-the-art centre would be an asset to the whole community.

“The detailed proposal was brought to me by the Cowboys, I read through it, it was great because it wasn’t just about football, it was about bringing healthcare in, bringing the (Townsville) Fire in,” he said. “I spoke to the Prime Minister’s office about it and the relevant ministers, and it just ticked all the boxes.”

Team captain Michael Morgan said there was an opportunity to develop young players coming through and hold on to the talent across North Queensland.

Cowboys coach Paul Green said the project was integral to stop leaking rugby league talent down south and called on other levels of government to chip in.

“It is very difficult to compete on a recruitment basis if you’ve got the best talent coming through and other clubs want to buy them and they have a state-of-the-art training facility,” Mr Green said.

Cowboys chief executive Jeff Reibel said the club was able to stay at 1300SMILES Stadium until at least the 2020 season.

“However, it’s very important that we have a short-term transition plan to unite our administration, training and commercial operations with our playing base, for efficiency and continuity, and because we are certain it will be the best setup for a winning NRL team,” he said.

Yep. The rugby league record for the SFS was set at last year's preliminary final between the Roosters and Souths of 44,380. 2nd biggest was the Knights v Sea Eagles Grand Final in 1997 with a crowd of 42,842.

The record for a regular season game at the SFS was set in 2018 at the ANZAC Day clash between the Dragons and the Roosters. Crowd was 41,142.
