The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Some local derbies in the past have gotten 50k so factoring in the possibility of clubs improving the game day experience as this stadium already does that sort of crowd could happen several times through the season.
I like the idea of there being a possibility of increasing the capacity without completely rebuilding again.

As far as west/Sydney clubs go, I’d like
4-6 games, go to the new Homebush stadium. The rest played BankWest, new SFS and local suburban grounds.
When all new stadia is built, Homebush should go -

- Dogs/Parra opening round game
- Souths/Roosters opening/ or first home game
- Dogs/Souths Good Friday
- Tigers/Eels Easter Monday
- Dragons/Roosters Anzac
- Souths/Tigers last Round Game

And make all traditional, every year. ElseWise, only use ANZ for Origin & Finals. Make the stadium event only.

Said no one ever.

Usually redesigns increase corporate seating, not get rid of it, so you can rest assured that's never happening.

As for the increase, why would anyone want that? 30,000 is perfect capacity. And the likelihood that Parra's gonna be selling out every game isn't high. Once things settle down, the hope would be that the Eels consistently break 20,000 at Bankwest, with derbies hitting 30k.

I can't imagine Bankwest capacity becoming a problem anytime soon. By the time it does, NSW Govt will probably be knocking down all the stadiums and rebuilding again.

There were a number of people complaining about the lack of western seating with no shade on the halfway line

Just remember this is where MOST long term season ticket holders have usually sat over the last 30 to 40 years. And the location of most original suburban stands

Eastern side usually was GA hill on the halfway line which slowly transformed to stands

Members paid good money to sit out of the sun on the west. Now their usual seats have been given away to corporates. Many of which have little understanding of rugby league just deep pockets for their guests as a tax writeoff

Money keeps pushing true fans away

All that's fair enough and valid concerns. I'm just saying that to my mind there is no example of a stadium redeveloping to reduce the number of corporate seats.

Some of the stadium ideas here have the rebuild of ANZ into the 2 - 3 billion dollar range. A fully covered, twin retractable pitch, 80000 seat stadium is wildly expensive.

A full roof adds in the region of 50% to the cost. Huge cantilevered spans a really really exxy. + you need a least some way of getting air in and out if not a complete aircon system. Yikes

A fully enclosed sfs would be easily $1b. You can’t use the clear plastic in Australia. People would fry and no amount of aircon would help.

So now that Bankwest has been completed, we look forward to many great new stadiums in the future; NQ in 2020, Wyndham Stadium (Western Melbourne A-League side) 2021, New SFS 2022 and ANZ potentially some time after that depending on the entirety of the redevelopment. Not sure what happened to the Mc Jones redevelopment plans, and Lottoland is getting a new stand. Anything else?

Hope the raiders get something ! They might need an A league team to justify it.

Redcliffe stadium just approved for another 3 million upgrade lol, a full 10,000 seats now lol.

I’m hoping my dogs finally get a home ground actually close to the region.

Given away? lol corporates are paying 5 times more for those seats is the reality. 1000 corporate sales is worth more than 5000 ticket sales! Most NRL games are at night, the sun isn't going to be much of a problem for at least 75% of games!

They just built 65k Optus for $1.2bill which included a massive amount of parklands, train infrastructure and footbridge access etc etc. It is a stunning stadium and precinct. No reason you couldn't build an equally stunning ANZ for 75k for around $1.5bill Id have thought. Absolutely no need for a full roof in Australia.

It would be nice to think the NRL will go to the WA Govt with an offer for a WA expansion club IF they commit to finish the redevelopment of NIB. Even just a new corporates west stand and roof on South stand would be a good ask. $100mill would cover it.

Move someone to Gosford and upgrade that to 25k.

Would anyone suggest that Cronulla play out of BankWest? I would say they wouldn’t. But you all seem to think that Penrith should.
But it is 38km from Endeavour Field to BankWest, and 39km from Penrith Stadium to BankWest.
Penrith is basically a regional centre and deserves to have its ground upgraded before anybody else.

But a roof, retractable pitches etc were floated as options. That was the point.

Optus would have cost a lot more if they had put a lid on it.

Mariners and CC council have been discussing for a while now these plans below. Pretty sure it would be around 30K total cap. Since Mariners avg. attendance is around 6K, would be a great build for a cc team. I live on the coast, and support is roughly 50% knights, 25% roosters and remaining a mixture of sharks, rabbits and doggies.

I think the most realistic approach would be to re-brand and categorise Manly as the Northern Eagles again (or Bears), with the base in Gosford (lots of available multi-purpose training facilities are already built), and play 2 games a year at Lottoland, and maybe 1 at potentially North Sydney Oval. Could even play a few at Morrie Breen in Wyong to bring the northern cc into the support more.

Spot on! Jerryworld in Dallas was US$1.3 billion to build 10 years ago and that doesn’t even have a retractable pitch.

hopefully this makes the anti stadium brigade realise just how shithouse the current stadiums in sydney are, and they get behind the plans. New parra is simply superb, the game has been putting up with sub par digs for too f**king long.9

Yeh, hopefully this ends the dumb idea that crowds dont matter for the spectacle...

Imagine that Eels-Tigers game infront of an empty stadium. Can anyone genuinly argue 30k screaming fans didnt effect their experience of that?

Crowds matter and i hope this turns the corner on Sydney attendance..

It doesn't need one though. Easy to fit other events around the Cowboys 8-game schedule. But AT&T also has a fully-covered roof, which adds quite a bit to cost.

Roosters support really that high up there? I know Balmain looked closely at moving up there in the early 90s when the writing was on the wall in Syd-nee. Seems underutilised.

Do you reckon there'd be room for a Southern stand with the CC Highway right outside? I think they'd have to reconfigure the concourses as well. The stadium has a capacity of 20, 051 (from memory) and once attendance hits around 16,000 it's a bugger to move through with toilet, food/drink queues..
