Would anyone suggest that Cronulla play out of BankWest? I would say they wouldn’t. But you all seem to think that Penrith should.
But it is 38km from Endeavour Field to BankWest, and 39km from Penrith Stadium to BankWest.
Penrith is basically a regional centre and deserves to have its ground upgraded before anybody else.
How do the travel times compare?

I think a good many of Penrith's fans would live closer to Bankwest than they do Penrith Stadium. In my opinion the Penrith catchment area starts about 5 minutes drive west of Bankwest. Penrith itself is on the western outskirts of the Penrith catchment area. There is virtually nothing west of Penrith.

Do you reckon there'd be room for a Southern stand with the CC Highway right outside? I think they'd have to reconfigure the concourses as well. The stadium has a capacity of 20, 051 (from memory) and once attendance hits around 16,000 it's a bugger to move through with toilet, food/drink queues..
I think in that animation, it's just something for the screen. They cannot have seating in the southern end due to space, access and safety restrictions. So they'd just leave that space and the palm trees alone and work more on the north stand's second tier and corners which would equal roughly to around 28-28.5K.

You can catch a train from Penrith and be at Parramatta in 34mins.

Same trip from Woolwooware in 1hour 37 mins and costs more.

That said I have no objection to Panthers playing at Panthers, but your comparison is only good for crows.

I for one can't wait to see what kind of crowd packs in for the Waratahs first game at Bankwest stadium.

Penrith are far enough outer suburb to be classed as semi regional imo and need to develop their own ground. Problem is they dont have the money and the Govt doesnt have the will so how will they compete? They are running at an annual $4-5million deficit in the FC operations and a big part of that will be their lack of gate takings and corporate sales. Gus has done a great job getting their sponsorship portfolio up to around $7.5mill which is one of the bigger of the sydney clubs but until they can get 20k to games they will struggle.

20k a game, is like 95% ground capacity. Tell me what Australian football club achieves that? I do agree they need a new stadium. A 25k BankWest style stadium, would be unreal. I remember reading somewhere, a while back, that most suburban ground teams need around 16k average, to break even. Penrith and the stadium in the current form, can definitely achieve that.

Penrith's catchment goes too Katoomba. An hour drive to Penrith. One of the areas growing junior wise is the Hawkesbury. Pitt Town which doubled is 40min drive to Penrith.

We get ground rental for free. Only with the uptake is the cost. 13k is the Penrith break even

Spending $1m per junior team is the main issue

Campbeltown and Penrith are far more likely to get some government funding their way than Brookvale or Wooloware.

Campbeltown due to the new A-League co-tenants, and Penrith's importance as a regional centre. Both big growth areas. Penrith having year-round tenants would certainly help, but unless the new A-League club split their games it seems unlikely.

Spending a million a junior’s, is the best investment. So many of them juniors will be life long fans. In 10 years, Penrith will probably have more members than any other nsw club.

I thought with the new ALeague licence, that an investor was building a new 18k stadium at CTown.

Yeah exactly. Looks bad on the books but eventually it pays off. even 10 years ago there was more Dogs, Parra etc fans in Penrith than Panthers. Slowly it is changing

That's correct.
The bid was backed by billionaire property developer Lang Walker, and below is a pic of the plans.
Whether it turns out to be pure fantasy remains to be seen. It was suggested that this could be up and built in about 5 years. It's on the site of the current stadium.

Seems like an elaborate excuse to build some appartments...

Im sure the stadium will be in stage 2 or 3 of the development and the company will suddenly discover they dont have the money for it.

Just a question of money. No reason you couldn't build a structure over the highway if you had the means.

Problem is it cant. You need to get well over 16k for big games to avg out the well under 16k for small games, weather effected games or times the club is performing poorly. Looking at this shot Id be surprised if there is more than 4-5k seats that actually have cover over them and they are sat a long way back from the action.

Like stated before, their investment in juniors, and their bigger involvement in the local community will lead to a lot more fans, and bigger crowds. But yes, major upgrades, or a new stadium is needed sooner then later.
