Talking about the stadiums is all well and good, but FIFA has other requirements for host cities.

So even if you could squeeze through the all the ovals (which I'm extremely doubtful of unless every other bid was embarrassingly bad), you'd still have issues in a bunch of cities with public transport options and capactiy, the standard of hotels and how many rooms they have, enough training facilities up to FIFA's standards, etc, etc.

So in a lot of cities you'd really be looking at the taxpayer and private investors putting in way more than just the $500mil-$1bil on a stadium.

Surely the hotels and infrastructure would be better in Aus than in Qatar? One of the host cities, Al Wakrah only has a population of 300k in the region and less than 30k in the city.
Just had a quick look and they are only using 8 stadiums in 5 cities for that WC. Seems if you're willing to pay enough in backhanders the rules are more 'guidelines' lol Though tbf all 8 stadiums are 40k plus and look good. Not sure they will need 8 nice stadiums for less than 3million people afterwards though!

I think I can recall that some of the stadiums can be dismantled and reassembled in other more lower socioeconomic countries or something like that. Apparently it stood out for the FIFA as well as the wads of cash

Which is why we will never get the World Cup unless we partner up with someone like Indonesia. Seven stadiums each and two in NZ. Final at a new 80k ANZ in 2038 (Europe will get 2030 and Sth America 2034).

Qatar’s bid promised to meet almost all the standards in all their host cities, which is easy from them because billions of dollars and a mountain of dead slaves is nothing to them, but to Australia it’s a massive issue.

They also had no intention of living up to all their promises, particularly when it came to the stadiums, and FIFA knew it, which is where FIFA’s corruption issues come into play.

I doubt that Australia could win the backroom deals game, and even if we could I’m not sure it’d be in our interests to take part in that sort of thing anyway.

Still looking for the stadium requirements for a 48 team world cup directly from FIFA. Could only find info from second hand sources.

If hypothetically the requirement is to 20 stadiums at 40,000 minimum in the bid book and if successful, eventually build or upgrade 16 venues, then that is a massive ask for Australia and NZ to undertake.

However as a guide, USA, Mexico and Canada had 23 in their bid, and after been chosen as hosts, 16 are picked for the tournament .

Although in the past, stadium requirements haven't exactly been rock solid. With Russia 2018, there were two stadiums at around 35,000 capacity. While with Qatar, just 8 stadiums at five cities will be used. Not only is Qatar going to have less venues, it will also have two cities with multiple stadiums.

It's amazing how the rules are altered from corruption.

tbf like you've said we cant see a copy of the actual rules so it may be they are more flexible than media makes out?

If 40k is requirement then only way it could work would be to run an Asia pacific WC. Include places like Singapore, Sth Korea and HK along with Aus and NZ. That might be attractive to FIFA given the asian population and potential fanbase

South Korea and Hong Kong are too far away. Australia should look towards NZ and Indonesia as part of a potential joint bid because they are in closer proximity. Much easier for fans and teams to get around.

It is tricky with Indonesia as it puts many of the tournament matches smack in the middle of a tropical climate. Some teams playing in Australia, Indonesia, or both is not something I would think FIFA would like the appeal of.

Australia should go with NZ and both countries need to recognise that serious money needs to be committed to the event for the bid to have a chance.

There arent enough 40k stadiums in Aus,NZ and Indonesia, if 16 are needed. Would take massive investment to get that many. All if Indo's big stadiums are athletic stadiums.

SFS worked has stopped due to a covid case

Had to go into St Vincents for a check up today so parked the car at the EQ and walked from there, sad to see everything still stopped on the SFS when i was walking through a couple of the back streets of Paddington with so much construction going with renovating house and apartments nearby.
