You are probably right, but I have always wondered if Gore Hill Oval would make a great location for a Boutique stadium? I mean it is only a few mins from St Leonards Train Station and seems to be big enough. I don't think it would create the same negative press from different groups trying to prevent it like the Chatswood Oval location would.

See the map below. I've circled the train station in red. Parking would probably be an issue, but with the train station so close I don't think it would be such a major problem.

It's green space in a built-up area that's about to be slammed with even more development, I highly doubt a stadium would be approved there. North Sydney Oval 2 would also be a good site, but there's little chance of that green space being lost to a stadium. Brookvale is the southernmost location likely to see any sort of significant funding.

These outer suburban smaller clubs don’t need a commbank but a stadium like mkm in Hull would be perfect. 25k capacity and just the right amount of corporate facility. Around $100mill cheaper as well and the 15-17k crowd won’t rattle around in it.

Definitely a stadium i have had my eye on for the past couple of years. Very solid. But Ayres will come through with the goods. Another Commbank with sightlines from the concourse and decent verticality. It could be shrunk down to 25k with some reduced seating on one side though.

The Front Office pod really put it beyond doubt what the govt is going to do.

Plan for $120m roof over Stadium Australia
nov13
The NSW government is considering a $120 million project to put a retractable roof over Stadium Australia in Homebush.

It will allow Sydney to stage major events including NRL grand finals, State of Origin games, UFC blockbusters
and concerts for 80,000 fans under complete cover.

The plan is part of Venues NSW chairman Tony Shepherd’s long-term vision to ensure Sydney is in a position
to beat rival states for the best local and international sporting content.

Sydney becomes a far more appealing proposition for global entrepreneurs knowing the venue is weather proof
and that they are guaranteed 80,000 ticket sales.

The Sunday Telegraph understands the state government is prepared to spend up to $800 million on stadium infrastructure over the next five years.

Two or three boutique stadiums would be built for NRL clubs to host matches at suburban venues.
The rest of the money would be spent on a retractable roof for Stadium Australia and the refurbishment
of corporate areas and bar and dining facilities for fans.

The more modern facilities will safeguard the future of Stadium Australia as a major-event venue.
The government spend would be justified in the dollars it would generate for tourism from major events.

It will also mean the South Sydney Rabbitohs will remain at Homebush rather than move to Moore Park
to share the new Allianz Stadium with the Sydney Roosters.
The Rabbitohs have a 10-year lease at the Homebush stadium but it is conditional on the government spending money
to bring the venue up to world class standards.

As part of a government agreement to renovate the stadium the NRL would guarantee grand finals remain in Sydney for 25 years.
Shepherd has spoken to NRL independent commission chairman Peter V’landys about the plan and has his support.

800 million for everything we need & a roof for homebush ??

hmmmmm

Ive said before we will barely get one new stadium out of that lot & the rest will be a few new stands at existing venues because thats all the budget will allow.

Liverpool for the new venue
the rest get upgrades

PS , a roof on homebush does not make it a world class venue so Souths can easily move to the new sfs if they want to. The gradient at homebush & distance of the seating from the pitch will always render it an inferior rectangle venue.
Plus a roof will put a halt on any plans to make any significant improvements to the above issues any time soon.

Homebush is a waste of money and I’d be surprised if you can put a retractable roof on for $120mill, itd be a massive engineering project you’d think.

let’s say they do then that leaves around $650mill (presuming the other Anz upgrades mentioned cost around $30mill). Should be able to get two 25k new stadiums (liverpool and penrith) plus upgrades to manly and Wollongong for that? Liverpool stadium could be designed to increase capacity in future should it be needed.

souths fans need to start a campaign to get out of Anz!

if bankwest cost 360 million 3 years ago
how are we going to get 2 of them , plus new stands at a few other grounds for 650 mill ?

even slightly smaller less grand stadiums then bankwest would cost 300 million each.
If our budget is 650 million we unfortunately will only get one new venue.

You should be able to build a decent 25k stadium for $250mill. (Using NQ stadium as a baseline) They don’t need to be the bells and whistles of bankwest.
That leaves $150mill for new main stands at manly and Wollongong.

that would just leave sharks and dragons sydney games in inadequate stadiums. There’s an answer to that but it seems unpalatable to sharks fans.

you think the cost of building in sydney is the same as regional Nth Qld ??

It'll be kogarah not wollongong , theres nowhere to build at wollongong because the hill is sand based running down to the beach so nowhere to put & secure pillars for a stand there , its too unstable.
Theres stands at all other sides & all are pretty newish too.

Even if we get 2 new venues for 500 million ( highly unlikely) 150 million won't be enough to build 2 new stands at kogarah & brookvale considering these will need to be big 2 levelled stands that seat at least 10K people, otherwise why bother.
We'd need another 300 million for proper upgrades at kogarah & brookvale.

Looks like 2 stadiums Penrith & Brookvale and a roof & big screen at Homebush with no change to its seating

That's not technically correct.
They have been easily able to build 200+ metre high rise towers in sand on the Gold Coast as close to the beach as Win Stadium is.

Harry Trigaboff himself is currently doing it.
You just need to pier down to rock.
