Penrith should be treated as Regional though.

Wollongong to Sydney is 80 km
Katoomba to Sydney is 100km

In Comparison Geelong is classed as Regional Victoria and is 76km from Melbourne

Is there a reason you picked somewhere 40kms from Penrith when talking about how far away Penrith is?

NBL could be possible, maybe Netball as well. But unless the Aleague give MacArthur the flick I don’t think we’ll see another Aleague team in sydney. The market is already saturated

Unlikely as Super Netball is in serious financial difficulties with Netball Australia close to going under. In the NBL, teams there operate on the smell of an oily rag and many teams went under financially (e.g. Melbourn Tigers, SE Melbourne Magic, North Melbourne Giants, Illawarra Hawks, Western Sydney Razorbacks, Sydney Kings....) over the last decade or so. Some teams have re-emerged (e.g. Kings) but financially the NBL aren't looking to expand right now.

It’s an absolute joke what’s happening down in Canberra
Barr is only airing what everybody whom has followed the planning closely has known for years.

The writing has been on the wall for close to a decade now; a stadium large enough to suit the city's needs wouldn't have fit on the site, every other space where you could have built a stadium in Civic has been built over, and the government won't knock down buildings for the stadium. The only hope was Northbourne Oval, but some club decided to build their COE over it... TBF, Northbourne almost certainly would have been far too small as well.

The real tragedy is that in the decade that it's been clear that Civic is a no go, the next best option, Woden, has also been built over without a plot being allocated for the stadium. All the options that are left are flawed (rebuilding Bruce being the most likely, and one of the least palatable), and the sports whom have benefited from the process the most are Cricket and the AFL, but frankly, the rectangular sports only have themselves to blame.

Unfortunately too many people have allowed the perfect to be the enemy of the good for far too long.

The NBL have been actively talking about a second Sydney team, I think you’ll find the comp is in better financial shape under its new owners. I mean it’s not a juggernaut or anything, but they’ve been kicking some goals.

They've been actively talking about teams in a lot of places, and their business plan requires them to expand rapidly.

In a lot of ways they're following the path NBA did in the 70s, 80s, and 90s; reliable rich owners investing the capital, acquiring valuable assets as cheaply as possible, producing more content to sell, and using celebrity and cult of personality to push interest.

Sure, the only way from where they were in mid 2010s was up, and they could still over extend themselves, but under Larry Kestelman they're probably the best run sports league in the country at the moment and basketball's popularity absolutely exploded in the last decade, and so far they've been reasonably good at capitalising on that and filling niches in the market.

They've only just expanded by two teams, but they'll expand by at least two more teams by the end of the decade, maybe more if the conditions are right. Plenty of powerful people are interested in owning sides as well.

The NBL added the Tasmania Jackjumpers last season and are interested in expanding into southeast Asia.

Another city in the NBL's sights for expansion is Darwin.

Gold Coast Rollers want to re-enter the NBL.

Guess the disappointing part of the Canberra Stadium not being built in the city, is the ACT Governments plan is to open up the city to the lake and create it as more welcoming. Currently Parks Way divides the two.

Wish the ACT Chief Minister and ACT government had more fight in them for the ACT. His idea of events is a flower show. It's like he doesn't want to upset the Federal Government asking for some cash. If this was a Queensland city...

Canberra also needs a world class indoor venue. It's not like this country can't built major infrastructure projects. Lower Parks Way built stuff on top of it. Simple. Have a vision for the future.

you would think there would be numerous locations a new stadium in canberra could be built... i mean its not like Sydney or Brisbane where every square inch within 20km of the city is built on top of.

A Stadium in Penrith won't benefit all those people?

If the aim is for a CBD to be setup around the airport, including a Stadium. Everyone on in the semi rural regions of Western Sydney will benefit.

Camden is 40km from Penrith. 62km from Sydney

North Richmond is 24km from Penrith. 68km from Sydney.

So you could use any, For the point of the Conversation most people know where Katoomba is on a map.

Regardless things like the Hospitals are Penrith/Blue Mountains - In fact that stretches to Lithgow, Katoomba play in the Junior League of Penrith so already Blue Mountains is linked to Penrith area.

The main Business case will be the 1m extra people coming out west in the next 10 years, Should have a venue that is capable of having international events, I would have it closer to the airport personally but if the houses are coming there later then it sits unused outside of those major events

I still think the best place to put a stadium is around the Western Sydney Parklands, shame they missed the boat.

Intersection of M4 and M7 (with easy links to the M5 and M2). Not far from Penrith and close to stations (circled in red). Would service outer Western Sydney well. As someone from the Blue Mountains who regularly uses the M7 bike path, I'd much prefer the drive to the M7 than navigating Mulgoa Road on a busy day.

Big shame. You could have easily linked it up with other tenants when the airport line is finally built.

You claimed Penrith is regional by comparing the distance from Sydney to Katoomba with the distance from Sydney to Wollongong and Geelong to Melbourne. How does that make any sense?

There’s no train station down there, though. It’d have to be up near the Blacktown sports park.

You’ll find with all these new stadiums there’ll be very minimal parking, the emphasis will be on public transport.

From the council website

Our organisation's mission is to implement Council’s strategy and program, through skilled and responsive management, by valuing our staff, partnerships and community involvement, by providing quality customer service and upholding ethical standards and behaviour. The community’s vision is one of a sustainable and prosperous Regional City with a harmony of urban and rural qualities.

My point was to show how big of an area will be serviced by the facilities put out there
