I wonder if any NRL clubs will fancy bringing a game over to this new covered rectangular stadium?

It's the perfect solution for that 6pm Sydney/8pm NZ Friday night kickoff timeslot.

Plus, with it being covered there's no concerns about the nasty southern winter conditions.

If any club should take games to Christchurch it's the Canterbury Bulldogs.

Their annual reports prove they make bugger all money from game day, so why not take a few 6pm Friday games to Christchurch?

It would also be better for the sport than taking home games to regional Queensland.

Perhaps the NRL could do a deal with all Sydney teams to take their 1 game vs Auckland Warriors to Christchurch for 3-5 years.

‘Gives back’ to Warriors for Covid (closer to home game).
Gives NRL 9 games in Christchurch.
Lays groundwork and footprint for a potential relocation or expansion team in NZ.
Might help too with NZ tv eyeballs etc.

No, but it can be part of the solution if the Warriors have some of their home games in that slot, and some Australian clubs are willing/swayed to move a home game there.. in the run up to Christchurch possibly being added as the base for a 19th or 20th NRL club (relax, Perth has the most compelling case for the next spot IMO).

the nrl should’ve made clubs move their home game vs the warriors to mt smart this year as thanks for keeping the nrl going under the most onerous of conditions

Bulldogs are one of the big Sydney clubs, not sure why you are making them your new whipping boys? They are one club that have the potential to get over 20k a game which they have done before. They have a very sizeable pokie den as well lol

I like your idea, but I don’t know if it would work with all Sydney clubs, especially the joint venture ones.

Do the Wests Tigers need another home ground? With the Dragons, do you take a home game away from Wollongong?

Once the stadium is built, over a five year period, have 8 to 10 games per year at Christchurch. And entice clubs to take a home game there.

I see similarities between Cronulla ad Canterbury.

Neither club has any room to grow as they're wedged into their districts by merged entities. Both clubs draw the lowest revenue from ticketing, membership, sponsorship and hospitality. The only real difference is Bulldogs have a larger fanbase.

Stadium Australia isn't really a good ground for regular season NRL games. It reminds me of QEII Stadium when the Broncos played at it.
