If you can find the announcement of the AFL broadcast deal, Ch7 said one of the reasons they love AFL is the non match programs. The Front Bar is easily the highest rating non match sport show in the land.

Well you better let the advertising industry know as their whole industry is based on it.

The dollars prove that they would rather have 126m watching for 2.8 hours, than 137m watching for 2 hours. Total AFL viewing hours was 45% higher for AFL which is exactly how much longer the game is. You can’t blame PVL for everything - the longer playing time and more breaks for ads an cross promotion of other shows is the main reason that the AFL is well in front in terms of broadcast revenue.

I still don't know why RL hasn't adapted 4 20min quarters. 2 extra defined ad breaks per game and it might even make the standard of football better if the players get a couple of quick breathers mid game. If it means a decent rise in TV revenue coin, I say do it.

May as well put them in a singlet and tight shorts and add the two behind posts to the goals while we're at it then.

Fatique would be the main reason, RL is better when you have the little guys doing their thing

You now have the extra round thrown in which takes the total minutes even further in front, It is why those people using the AFL deal as meaning the NRL deal is poor have no idea.

but those figures don’t include New Zealand

you know that country to the east of Australia (google it if you don’t believe me)

foxtel charges for subscriptions. So your argument again fails there too

There was a proposal for 4 x 25 minute quarters but the arlc felt they didn’t want to ruin the fabric of the game by reducing the impact of fatigue

I would think it’s a bad move as with test cricket viewers are struggling with how long afl games go for hence why their ratings have fallen so much

The ARLC f**ked the fabric of the game bringing the 6 again untested in its first iteration (there's a better balance now in the 2nd iteration, we'll see how this 3rd one goes). I would personally leave it at 20 min quarters.

Foxtel also sells it's programs to advertisers, Which is why we get 50000 sportsbet ads during Super Saturday

Yeh but it’s not the main source of revenue

and the ratings gap on foxtel covers the time difference

if his theory was right cricket would get trillions

Wrestling ruined the game

it was boring af

the game now is more about ad lib in attack instead of those boring block plays

it’s a shame teams were cheating the six again rules by giving deliberate penalties on early tackle counts

Cricket gets $200m for 2 months work, On a per minute basis it is a mile in front
Good argument

didn’t realise their deal was so low though

so you agree with the afl fan then that rugby league can never match what afl gets bc of game length

that’s a very defeatist attitude

i think we can and it will blow that argument out of the water

Weve never had the rights out to open tender with three serious bidders going for them. That's one of the key reasons they've landed such a massive deal.
Until that happens for us, we get teams in perth and adelaide, and we stop pulling our pants down for news ltd we wont really know our true value.

Anyway stadiums?

Yes because what TV execs want and what RL provide aren't the same.
The best RL is free flowing with little penalties and Video ref interference BUT the potential Internationally is where the 2 can get very close

If we keep adding valuable teams (cough cough gws gcs and tasmania) we will beat them

we’re going to go close next time anyway with 18 teams and we aren’t funding lemons like they are
