You'd think with what the Broncos are charging for rd2 tickets, they could probably build a stadium with their own coin.......

Quite a few of the clubs (both NRL and AFL) could probably afford to build their own modest stadiums if they really wanted to, but that isn't how we roll in Australia. In Australia we get the taxpayer to pay for the expensive infrastructure necessary to support our private businesses!

Seriously though, the Raiders could afford to build their own modest roughly 20k seater if they were smart about it. It'd fix a lot of the problems the club, and other rectangular sports, have in Canberra, and it'd give them another valuable asset. But they'll never, ever, look into that possibility because there's an arrogant entitlement to stadium infrastructure in the Australian sports industry.

TBF though, it'd probably be a bad idea to go down that route in the current economic climate.

I take it you'll be waiting a while for you rectangular thing to get a refurb?

out of 30 odd plus events ayear if only one of them comes close to selling out then yeh you’d be questioning why you’d be spending hundreds of millions on increasing capacity.

Stadiums Queensland charge the Broncos $406,300 per game to use Lang Park.

Interesting seems to be at the gate prices that are jumping up. Maybe they are trying to encourage more full memberships which look much better value than paying at the gate? Eg eels ga for 1adult 1 Child is $45 but a membership to same area will cost you just $23.60 a game

But same seat was being sold as $70 if you walked up at the gate

You will find all of those ticket prices quoted are even higher priced if you walk up to the gate on game day

Cronulla would be the one who could most likely self fund their stadium after they sold the land around their ground for a healthy sum, but chose not to upgrade their ground for some reason. Penrith and the AFL's Collingwood and West Coast would be the other possible candidates who could self fund a stadium. Even the American Sports teams and to an extent, the EPL clubs get taxpayer funded stadiums/upgrades. Some new stadiums have even forced cities in the States to cut funding to essential services like hospitals because of controversial funding deals to try to prevent teams relocating
