Well if the rental fees for Allegiant Stadium are massive and can be only offset by a sellout crowd - which won’t happen - it’s not hard to Google ‘stadiums in Las Vegas’ and see what’s left.

The original plan was for California, 1 hour flight is doable.

RL needs a strong USA. Given they are in the next WC, Plans were for them to host.

The last RLWC lost money, They need someone with money involved in the sport. Whether it works is the question

Big problem I can see with an NFL ground is the dimensions of the field.

Length not including end zones: 91.4m (100 yards). Plus the end zones: 109.7m (120 yards).

Width: 48.4m (53.3 yards).

You don't get a lot of extra space to play with especially length wise.

Compare to a league field dimensions. Length: 100m plus ingoal = 112 minimum metres but usually 120 metres.
Width: 68 metres.

You might be able to find a few extra metres on the sidelines which are large in an nfl field but you'd think the dimension difference would have a serious effect on attacking play, especially the width difference.

You’d have to live with short in-goals I think.

Soccer field dimensions preferred size is 105m long and 68m in width. Maybe the NRL can look at stadiums that will host the world cup in 2026.

Or does it have to be in Vegas?

Well LA is a shithole that you would go there once and you would have seen enough.

So Vegas is probably the closer alternative to Australia and still easier to get to that is on the west side of the USA.

whole idea is rubbish
playing premiership games in an old dilapidated venue , on a field that doesn't meet the minimum requirements , in a city & country that couldn't give a stuff about our sport

New Premier Chris Minns has plenty on his plate since his decisive election victory last month, but at some stage he’ll need to address Sydney’s stadium debate with absolute finality.

And it’s important to recognise that finding the right solution might mean dumping the planned $300 million re-build of Penrith Stadium.

The previous Liberal government identified the Penrith Paceway and Showground site as the perfect location for a new stadium in Penrith, as it would allow for a larger venue with a capacity and purpose that would warrant the significant spend.
Labor does not appear on board with that plan, saying on the record that it will not spend a cent more than the $300 million allocated for the project. That won’t be enough to build the stadium as well as purchase the Showground land and relocate the harness racing facility.

The result, therefore, is a knock down and re-build of the existing stadium, which I’ve always had significant doubts about.

The reality is that any new venue on the current site, due to the space involved, would barely increase the capacity and would be a huge win for corporate ticket holders with general punters left with likely higher prices to sit in comparative, if not worse, seats.

Labor has previously said it wants to protect the hill at the northern end of the ground as part of a re-build, which is almost guaranteed anyway as the location of Ransley Street prevents a grandstand being built.

Labor will likely soon discover through a business case and due diligence that the Showground site is the logical option for the stadium. But that certainly does not mean Minns will whack out the cheque book.
Knocking down and re-building the existing stadium simply doesn’t make sense and doesn’t deliver on the multi-purpose, additional capacity venue that Penrith deserves and wants.

I understand Panthers CEO Brian Fletcher will continue to push for the $300 million to be delivered. That is his job and he would be negligent if he didn’t push that outcome.

But I’ve got a pretty good idea about how this whole thing is going to work out.

The NRL Grand Final remains a significant part of this debate.

NRL bosses Andrew Abdo and Peter V’landys hold the cards here because the Grand Final is not locked in to any venue and it would be embarrassing if Sydney lost the decider in the first year of Minns’ leadership.

The season decider has been held in Sydney every year, except for 2021 when COVID-19 restrictions forced it to Brisbane.

The NRL knows Accor Stadium is the best option but equally knows it has leverage in its quest for other grounds like Leichhardt Oval, Shark Park and Brookvale Oval to be upgraded.

So here’s how I think this will play out: Labor will scrap the $300 million Penrith project, citing increased costs that would make the project impossible to deliver within that budget.
It will instead allocate a significant portion of those funds to an upgrade, perhaps in the vicinity of $100 to $150 million. This would allow the club to significantly improve the corporate facilities, develop better toilet facilities and more permanent food and beverage options; as well as other cosmetic improvements it deems necessary.

The remaining $150 to $200 million would then be allocated across the other suburban grounds to meet some of the requirements of those venues, which are in desperate need of a modern spruce up.

As part of that commitment, Labor will secure the Grand Final for the next 20-odd years in Sydney and Minns will be able to close a debate that has been going on for way longer than it should have.

The biggest loser here is Penrith, no question, but I’m struggling to see a future where Labor calls in the bulldozers to knock down and re-build Penrith Stadium, spends nothing on the other venues and potentially loses the Grand Final.

Nah bad outcome for selling the grand final and a hodge podge of upgrades

Fletcher needs to be lobbying Albanese and vlandys for more money

150 million on top of the current panthers stadium is still an average result

lets recap
the original deal back in 2015 I think was for 2 billion for stadia in Sydney
we have had so far
Allianz 800 mill
Parramatta 400 mill

meaning we have another 800 mill to go to get the NRL GF locked away in Sydney ... not 300 mill

300 mill spread between 3 or 4 Sydney suburban venues would be pointless , its simply not enough for any meaningful improvements.

however 800 mill would get some decent upgrading of 3 or even 4 venues.

Minns can moan all he wants
its 800 mill bub , thats the amount.

Even better don’t take the 800 million just sell off the grand final

the upgrades we’ve got are good enough for now

It would take 30 years to get that 800 mill back , Penrith , Brookvale , Shark park Kogarah , Leichardt .. even Campbelltown are not up to scratch & all need work

The NRl is highly unlikely to be able to sell 20 GF's for $300mill let alone $800million. Especially if NSW govt has a dummy spit and offers a knock down price for just a few of them.

And lets say they could sell 20 GF for $300mill, whats the NRl going to do?
Put a little bit each year to stadium upgrades for the next 20 years?
Borrow to build something on the back of the future revenue?
Keep all the money and screw the clubs and their stadiums problems?

I dont see how selling Gf's fixes Sydney's stadiums problems?

Not the same

arlc receives the cash in hand it doesn’t own the stadia

clubs still pay large rent to use them and other codes benefit too

it’s much better for the govt they get assets they make their money off and also get the tourism from the grand final

Sometimes Its the responsibility of the code to be the improver of facilities its the primary user of & if the GF is the driver then so be it

otherwise why would the NRL ever of entered into any long term agreement with the Govt to host its GF
we had a 25 year deal on the table to get ACCOR improved

why ?
because in the long run it benefits the code
same as the suburban grounds

I'd rather the GF in Sydney on a long term deal & the grounds upgraded any day then this current annual cat & mouse stuff with up to 5 of our Sydney clubs playing in sub standard grounds
