Yeh miss out on an extra 5k capacity because it can’t be relocated elsewhere
I just gave a solution of how to add extra capacity. The embankment could have temporary stands built on it without moving the fanzone. In fact you could even build permanent stands there as it’s not used for anything else. The corners at the southern end are also unused currently.

How did the all Blacks get 30k plus last year

Temp stand in the fanzone. ABs don’t care about that area it’s a Warriors thing. Not sure if they utilised the embankment and corners, though pretty sure they didn’t use the latter.
I’m guessing there were no GA areas either which would bump capacity by a couple of k easily

Try this. Different article

sounds promising
preferences for location would be
1. Civic
2. Epic (on the light rail line)
3. Bruce

I think as long as it is modern and has better protection from the elements (say Commbank quality) it should see a 10% increase in attendance even if it is just at Bruce

I remember they used to put up a few stands above where the fanzone is now. Would be good if they put these up again. Obviously the lower stand goes so that the fanzone remains.

Yeah that’s the northern embankment I mentioned. Personally I think they should put permanent stands there though they’d need to relocate or raise the big screen to get full use of it (it’s now in the front centre of that area right behind the fanzone).

Those stands at the back of the hill the view would be terrible

the other option they have of course is eden park

assuming a new stadium in Auckland is being built mt smart days could be numbered

Hate to have to be the realist in the room, but it's not particularly promising at all.

The Liberals aren't getting in, so you can throw any talk of Civic straight in the bin. There's nowhere in Civic to build a 30k stadium anyway, not without investing hundreds of millions into tunnelling and realigning roads and/or knocking down buildings anyway. People really just need to let the Civic stadium go, it ain't happening and banging on about it won't change that.

Labour's current idea is to split funding with the federal government on a new facility at the AIS, which will only happen if the new stadium is still owned by the Australian Sports Commission (i.e. Federal Government). In other words the ACT ratepayer will be in the same position as we are now where we're expected to maintain and upgrade an expensive asset that we don't own, in a shit location, and that successive Federal Governments will inevitably neglect like they have GIO and the rest of the AIS.

Furthermore the most recent proposals were to build the new stadium over the old Raiders HQ site, knock down the old stadium and use the land for other things (accommodation and maybe new facilities for the AIS), and build a precinct over the carpark with restaurants and entertainment options, forcing as many people as possible to use public transport.

The problem with that is that public transport in Canberra is beyond shit and forcing people to rely on it will just make it incredibly difficult and inconvenient for the majority of the population to attend events at the stadium, particularly if they're from outer suburbs. Let me put it this way; it's very difficult to catch buses and trams that don't actually exist. . . The restaurant precinct won't materialise either as it won't be able to survive in Bruce just on the back of match days. What you'll almost certainly end up with is a bunch of residential apartment blocks with largely empty retail frontage in the bottom, not the vibrant entertainment options people are looking for.

Considering all that a 10% increase in attendance at Bruce is a generous prediction when you'd be seriously restricting most people's ability to attend and inevitably increasing the costs and time investment required to do so. On the other hand you could probably increase average attendance by more than 10% just by building a modern stadium literally anywhere else in the city with pre-existing transport infrastructure and food and entertainment options within walking distance (i.e. any of the town centres).

It's a moot point anyway as this is just the annual study into a new stadium that happens before every election and it's highly unlikely that there'll be any real movement. It's even more unlikely now that there'll be BBL and AFL licenses up for grabs in the not too distant future...

By keeping the fanzone instead of putting seats in that area, the club is prioritising fan experience over revenue. Likewise by staying at Mt Smart, which the traditional fanbase considers home, instead of moving to Eden Park.

That's a good thing IMO.

Keep in mind its only the last 12mths or so where the demand warrants even thinking about other options. For the 10-12 years before that (since we last made a GF) Mt Smart capacity has been more than enough.

If/when a new stadium is built, or the club gets to Brisbane-like levels of interest season after season, then I'm sure they'll look at other options to maximise the opportunity. But for now, I think the decision to look after fans over making a bit more money is admirable.

those stands at the back of the hill would have a better view than half the ones at Eden Park. They’re really not that far from the pitch at all.
Have you actually been to either ground?

Other point re the fanzone is it gets well utilised whether there’s 12K people in the ground or 24K, It should be one of the last things you’d look at moving to make way for seats that might only get used at the biggest games.

No

picture doesn’t look good

Eden park has over 20k extra seats so even taking out the bad ones it’s probably got more good seats

And yet people on here want Sydney clubs to use big centralised stadium and not their traditional homes lol

locking out so many people is stupid

it’s bad for rugby league more people can’t watch who want too
