Future NRL Stadiums

If the Raiders were going to own their own stadium they'd be best building it at Northbourne oval, where they were going to build their centre of excellence.
It's in Braddon so it's right in the middle of the city and they already own it.

The only problems I can see is that there isn't enough room to build it as big as they'd like, and that even the cheapest flat pack stadium costs at least a couple hundred million, chuck a roof on top of that and the price would blow out even more.

They'd have to be willing to give up 5 or so thousand seats and probably the roof as well, but it could be done.
So based on what your suggesting, what sort of stadium could they end up with

Still cant figure out why its so fricking expensive to build a stadium in Aus? Look at the KC in Hull, built for about $70mill fifteen years ago. A 25k basic stadium shouldn't cost more than $150mill. God only knows how they spent $125mill replacing two stands at nib stadium a couple of years ago!

Brentford in London about to build this 20,000 stadium with potential to increase to 25,000 for $112mill

Seems that is the current trend though.

For example Spurs new ground is going to cost 400M quid +.

do you think residents in the surrounds would want a stadium there? that would ruin the braddon vibe..man.

Canberra nimbys are some of the strongest nimbys

the best move, is the civic pool option which I also don't see happening at all. I just don't see em doing it unless theres raiders, brumbies, a league and other events

An ambitious, £250m regeneration scheme providing a new 20,000 capacity community stadium for Brentford FC and enabling development totalling 900 residential apartments.

The regeneration scheme costs roughly $410 million AUD. What the split between stadium/housing is, who knows, but it's probably a safe bet that most of the money is going towards land

What Perth Red fails to realise is the importance of land costs. Land is what costs money, not the concrete slabs you use to build the stadiums.

Of course a stadium in Hull is going to be cheap. Land is nowhere near as expensive as it is in London or Sydney.

I'm not an architect or anything like that, so obviously I don't really know, but estimating from other stadiums that I've seen built a 20-25 thousand seater with covering over the stands.
Basically a smaller version of AAMI park with steeper stands and much less fancy roofs over the stands.

I agree that this would be the biggest problem that the Raiders would face, and it's the thing that killed the Giants redevelopment of Manuka oval as well (though Manuka is publicly owned and Northbourne is owned by the Raiders, so it's a little different).

Frankly this city needs to tell people like that to f##k off and die, just because you live in that neighborhood or own a business there doesn't mean that you have any say in what others are doing on land they own, unless it's negatively affecting the environment in a catastrophic way or affecting you physically, like a factory dumping toxic material into the waterways or some sh!t.
It's sad that tiny minorities, often numbering in the hundreds, can so negatively affect development in this city and also get a greater say then the majority of people that would enjoy the facilities that they stop from being built.

Again I agree that the government would be likely to shut it down if one of these groups jumped up and down, and I'm not certain about a solution on how to fix it, all I'd say is be prepared for it to happen and hire a very good lawyer with knowledge in the field.

Isn't labor costs a lot lower over in the UK than here in Oz??

Went to suncorp on friday night, the stands around the big screens have been cut away and the frames put up, they're gonna be very impressive once completed. The old screens are up on the top levels on temp scaffolding, the comparison between the new frames and the old screens is night and day. Should have been done years ago tbh.

I'm talking about cost of construction, you'd hope the land would be gifted by state or local govt for a local project like a new stadium. The hull stadium is on govt land. The Brentford stadium is costing 71million gbp

Interesting cost modelling in U.K. From a decade ago.

We need to import some cheap labourers lol

UK has a consistent trend of claiming a figure for the cost of a stadium that end's up being well exceeded, see Wembley, Emirates and the Olympic stadium for example.

There certainly isn't a consistent trend showing stadiums in the UK as being cheaper than those over here, and really its only the currency exchange thats making those above seem cheaper right now.

I think the whole "vision for the city" plan is quite good with the stadium/convention centre but the convention centre is already basically dead on arrival.
but the money involved in the whole project etc. could be too much.

like part of the stadium working is completely changing how parkes way works.

ill believe it when I see it.

Let's hope they fit in stadium unlike the Allianz screens which are ridiculously too big.

Build the whole thing on a barge and just set the thing up off a dock in Sydney Harbour...

Probably the best location we could get too.

like the singapore football pitch in the marina, good idea! You could make the stands look like mini harbour bridges lol
