Future NRL Stadiums

Obviously not.

If that were the case, they wouldn't be playing there. Nobody is forcing Souths to play there instead of at the SFS. They must be making more money there.

I'm not talking about clubs making money from playing at anz, I am suggesting the stadium management company, and ultimately the nsw govt are not making money from the majority of club games being played there. I would love to see the books and how much the nsw govt is subsidising games being played there.

NSW government don't own ANZ.

A company managed by ANZ bank called diversified infrastructure trust owns it.

In 2031 the ownership will revert to the state government.

I don't see why we should care if they aren't making money. As long as the clubs are.

Agreed

IIRC Souths were offered a very good deal (before rusty) to relocate to Homebush rather than play at the SFS.

The Liverpool or surrounding area is THE place to build a proper NRL / soccer stadium. The M4 corridor is already well served by stadiums, however 'not just right' they may be.

Liverppol would probably suit SE sydney much better too, although public transport would be a huge pain.

The other thing to consider re: ANZ stadium profits , is it may actually be beneficial for them to make small losses on these NRL games. It may actually increase the overall profit the stadium makes.

For instance they would stock a lot of perishable goods , food , beer etc. if the stadium isn't being used more stock may go to waste during the long periods of no use. I'm sure there would be other cost benefits in keeping the stadium functioning on a semi regular basis rather than just 10 times a year.

In that case f**k em, the NRL should be lobbying hard for a decent Western sydney RL stadium. Not of interest if ANZ losses money or becomes a white elephant and the NSW Govt shouldn't care either if it is privately owned. My point was questioning the comment that was made that the NSW govt won't build a new stadium if it puts the profitability of ANZ at risk.

Have seen comments on the Bigfooty boards that they want any new western Sydney stadium to cater for Aussie rules. That is laughable imo they have 4 grounds In Sydney metro suitable for an AFL premiership match all of which have received significant gov't funding in recent times. That being said I don't think it would happen as the wanderers and NRL clubs would literally freak out and withdraw support

When's your next state election? Maybe we'll see some announcement then. Nrl should be lobbying the Feds, Gillard could do with some westie votes!

Only problem with a liverpool stadium is i cant see parra and penrith using it on a permanent basis. Perfect for Tigers and Bulldogs. With that in mind i think a new stadium would most likely be part of a larger plan for stadia rationalisation with pressure from the state government.

Would liverpool be an option for the dragons? They seem to have a fairly mobile fan base relative to most clubs.

Or the SCG...

I read the thread over there.

The goat that suggested this thinks because ANZ & skoda aren't really in the west that the AFL should be lobbying for any new stadium to be multi purpose.

Never mind that the state government have just built them a stadium.

Or the fact that there is ZERO demand for an oval in the west.

The Melbourne based AFL teams all play their home games at just two stadiums (the MCG and Docklands), but we are supposed to build GWS their own gound in Sydney? f**k that!

Dreamers. AFL have enough multi-purpose stadiums in Sydney plus had the Showgrounds upgraded recently.

Sydney needs an upgrade to the SFS, ANZ and a new Western Sydney Stadium, at least that means RL, RU and Soccor can use their stadiums for domestic AND international games -something the AFL cant do.

Any current rectangle stadium would get 4x the use any multi-purpose would

I also completely forgot about Blacktown which they left pretty quickly after they got Skoda.

It is big enough fro demand out in the west for the next 10-15years. ANZ and Skoda are also west enough after they decided to ditch Blacktown for convenience.

They should get no say in the matter.

Didn't they receive further assistance to get a year round training venue once they left blacktown?

The biggest farce is the money the act handed over for them to play games there

Talking of too many unused AFL stadiums in Sydney don't forget to add Kogarah oval to that list.

A fully refurbished 22,000 stadium close to public transport that needs to be more utilised other than the odd game of cricket or NRL.

What has happened to the old Oasis site?

Nothing, it is used for junior RL games and touch football.

The Bulldogs and Liverpool City Council wanted to build the Oasis development there. A 40k seat stadium and even a Bulldogs leagues club but the whole deal fell over.
