Going to be great to see it packed in July with the red and green of Sth's and the black of Warriors and Pirates fans!
Do you know the difference in capacity between the old stand and the new one? The new stand looks awesome.

Good question, not sure tbh as there isn't any stats on what the old one or new one has in it that I have been able to find. The overall capacity has been reduced from 21,500 to 20,500 but that is due to the northern end standing lower terrace having seats installed losing around 1500. The new Sth stand is slightly smaller as it doesn't have the corners that the old scaffold sth stand had. Purely going from the pictures the new East stand does look much larger but given the capacity change it could probably only be around 2-3000 more at most I would think.

Here's a pic of the new south stand, it has been built to take a roof in phase 2 of the development

One of the main differences that is clear to see in the new stands compared to the old ones is how steeper the pitch is and how much closer fans are now to the pitch, even high up in the stands. Must really feel like you are on top of the action.

This is the Northern end of the ground or "The Shed" as it is known. The new seating will be installed in July and take up that lower half of the space, basically completing the all seating lower bowl section of the ground.

Got my first look at the new stand yesterday, looks amazing. Has totally transformed the ground. As you can see there is still work going on fitting the last bits of roofing and building the new toilets and food stands at the back.

After a couple of below par crowds at Campbelltown I am wandering whether or not the Tigers would be best throwing their hat into the ring to be a primary tenant at any new purpose built ground? I think Blacktown or Liverpool as stadium locations would suit the Tigers but still with 2-3 games at Leichhardt per season though.

They could relocate to Campbelltown as a base full time and turn it into a centre of excellence.

I heard a rumour that the tigers will be moving their last 2 Campbelltown games to ANZ this year to be announced tomorrow

BLACKTOWN International Sportspark at Rooty Hill could grow as the jewel in Blacktown’s sporting crown with proposals, including two new 20,000-seat stadiums, a train station and hotel, put forward.

The plans are outlined in council’s draft masterplan, which is on public exhibition until Friday. Blacktown Mayor Len Robinson said the plans were part of council’s vision to turn the sportspark into a premier sporting hub.
"It is hoped with additional facilities, the park will operate self-sufficiently," Cr Robinson said. He said the sportspark's benefits included hosting sporting events and entertainment, and local sports people using its facilities." ... the new masterplan aims at creating a one-stop shop for those visiting the park," he said.

Broken into stages, the plan proposes a range of new facilities, to be built from one to 10 years or longer. Stage one (one- to three-year plans) is estimated to cost about $20 million and includes a 200-room 10- to 20-storey hotel, and traffic and landscape upgrades. Longer-term proposals include an entertainment precinct, a restaurant and conference/function centre. Stage-four proposals (10 years-plus plans) include an event train station and two 20,000-seat stadiums.

A council spokeswoman said any stadium development would be an important local, regional and national project. Parking, expansion of existing facilities, recreational areas and improved pedestrian access to Rooty Hill and Doonside are also outlined in the plan. Parking and improved pedestrian access are also included in the plan. Following public exhibition, a report will go to council in July, seeking adoption of the plan. The spokeswoman confirmed stage-one planning would start almost immediately after adoption of the plan.

Are the midgets going to play split their 8 Sydney games across 3 stadiums? Unless the Thunder move there permanently, it will be a huge waste of money, probably still is a waste regardless.

Way to shoot low on the rectangular stadium, with the athletics track in place its going to be another dud for rectangular codes. I suppose they're planning on 20 000 to turn up regularly to see people run in a circle.

Somehow I don't think the NRL will be chipping in to that one.

Nope, not sure if the AFL has their dirty mitts involved but I hope the NRL hasn't. Its terrible ideas like these that ensure that a town like Blacktown remains a backwater for popular first class sport.

What a massive waste of money.

Sydney has all these facilities at homebush. Why the hell would we need more?! Especially the running track.

The oval might be used for one pre-season VFL game.

Other than that maybe a shield match and some domestic 20/20's.

I hope the AFL do have money involved.

Its the same as flushing it down the toilet.

I said in another thread, I'm more than happy for the AFL to flush money down the shitter. But we all know it isn't just their money being wasted, and its for something completely unnecessary.

Blacktown's waste may be Liverpool's gain.

Councils must get smart about who they pony up to. The NRL has money and will be looking to spend in line with a long term stadium policy.

Imagine a stadium in Liverpool hosting Canterbury and Wests on alternate weekends with anywhere between 20 and 40k each week.

Easy to see which area would benefit more from their investment.
