Well fcck me, NSW government go with the shiitiest, cheapest option that will only push the problems back 5 year.

Official announcement - "This is the best way to deal with it, because shut the fcck up. Thats why."

I cant say i knew this was going to happen but im really not surprised.

I literally just found out now what 'wanderers' meant, I thought Parra had the stadium to themselves?

I don't think you'll see another world class rectangular stadium built anywhere for at least another 15/20 years.

Its enraging considering the amount of money spent on those spastic blow-ins at Skoda.

The absolute worst thing about Skoda is that it IS the best stadium in sydney and it doesnt even get used.
It incredible that sydney can finally make a great stadium, and still manage to fcck the NRL out of it.

This is a federal governmemt funding decision.

And its completely meaningless as they wont be around in 85 days.

Of course the new government mayy match it.

Not to make this a political discussion, but a change in government won't help the situation. Expect less money to be spent in the western suburbs (and everywhere else) under a Liberal federal government.

Well I wouldn't be so sure of that.

The coalition are likely to win many seats in western Sydney. Theyre going to want to hold on to those seats.

Would be odd if they just announced the upgrade for parra as a standalone project. I would have thought with the emphasis they have placed on the major stadia, some sort of grand plan would be announced

hell, i didnt read that properly. i was thinking state gov did this.

This may be an over reaction, but f**k me, this even worse. youve got two levels of government trying to fix the same problem by doing opposite things, and they expect a good outcome.

Dont get me wrong, i love the idea of all teams having their own stadium, but if that means theyre all as shiity as Parramatta, penrith and Campbelltown then the best option is a centralised, great stadium. Im not saying dont use Parra, it could be a good place for it, but with what they have now, they would have to tear it all down and start again. Small cash injections is a waste and an excuse not to do a better job.

Centralizing stadiums for the clubs can only go so far though. Souths and Canterbury play out of ANZ, and you could possibly get Parra and the Tigers to share a stadium too. Outside of that you can't rationalise any further - the rest of the Sydney teams are too far spread out to share stadiums successfully.

Penrith, Cronulla, Manly and St George will always have to play out of their own grounds, moving their home matches wouldn't work.

Cronulla dont really count, theyre paying for there own stadium so they can do what they want.
Your right about manly, they cant really share.
But panthers could share a Blacktown Stadium with Parramatta and St george could move their sydney games to SFS or something (people say it worked for souths because their fans are spread out. Id argue Dragons out do them there).

Serious question.

Do you have their crowd numbers from their SFS years? I hear that they were bad, but i cant imagine they were much worst than the 15ish thousand they get at Kogarah now.

Some were below 10k, others weren't so bad.

Also, it wasnt 03 , it was 00-02

i admit i only skimmed the numbers, but considering that the comp was just coming of super league those stats just don't seem that detrimental to the arguement for them to move.

Granted some of them were awful, but compared to the other number at the time (think Win stadium), if you could grow the SFS crowds at the same rate as WINs crowds i would still support a move.

Note: i only advocate the dragons moving if it means getting the SFS rebuilt. In its current formation its not much of an improvement on Kogarah, but if they had a Suncorp or an Etihad (manchester one) style stadium, then i think they should move, particularly if them moving was actually what made the rebuild happen.

Moving Saints to the SFS would do nothing but halve their membership base. There was a massive backlash from supporters last time they ditched Kogarah (and rightly so).

Now that Jubilee has modern facilities there's no need for them to move.

I should have said, I was thinking this as a prospect in like 10/15 years when Kogarah is falling apart. Its great for them now but when it becomes unusable they can either get a small grant to make it liveable or they could share an awesome stadium a bit further away.
