Future NRL Stadiums

Christchurch is getting a 35,000-seat rectangular covered stadium in a few years - right in the centre of the city. The local rugby union is hoping it's ready for the 2017 Lions tour of NZ.

Sounds like the sort of venue that could attract the odd NRL game - and maybe even make Christchurch an expansion contender - plugging into the North Island v South Island rivalry for a decent local derby with the Warriors.

As Gus alluded to in the coverage Sydney desperately needs a roof on allianz or anz or even both. Hopefully the government sees sense and this is part of the stadium master plan. Once its built it would be a powerful incentive to encourage more Sydney games to it

Who gives a f**k, they are another country - the warriors shouldn't be in an Australian competition.

A roof on the SFS is part of the SCG/SFS upgrade plan. If I remember the news story it is the next in line (or after the new underground carparks) followed by the Churchill/Brewongle Stand redevolpment at the SCG.

Roofs on the stands that actually provide shelter for the seats would be a start! What is it with Australian architects who think if you put a roof that covers just a third of the stand it is a good idea?

Yeah:lol::lol::lol:;-) Couldn't help myself.

Ha maybe he's still pissed about that last game the Magpies played in the NRL when the Warriors toweled them up good

Anyhow Christchurch is trying to get 3-4 games to their city each year shortly so this new stadium will help

:x Don't remind me - bloody sheepshaggers across the ditch.

Imagine, the NZers allowing Australian teams to play in their national rugby union comp, I think not. FFS it is a totally different country and national means within one nation. So if NZ becomes the seven or eight (north island -7, south island -8) state of Australia then they can play in an Australian competition; if not, f**k off.

Ridiculous post. Nz is just as important to rugby league as Australia is and another team (or two) is a defiance must in the future.

You forgot to account for the fact that he is a troll and/or a moron. Of course NZ is important.

Do tell, why?

Due to the terrible youth development programs at Aussie clubs they seemingly need NZ RL to find new players. If that fails then they go to the ESL.

Also you may get a club in Sydney who are basically a bit rubbish. If this club has to merge with say Balmain to survive then you need another team to fill the gap.

As RL is only played in two states and Aussie rules dominates everywhere else you need a NZ to fill the gap.

If your team could sort themselves out then you wouldn't have this problem... :D ;-)

(1) that hurt, below the belt.

(2) then NZ needs to seek Australian citizenship.

(3) we are now rich, Balmain is busted.

Seriously, the PIs only use NZ as a stopover so they can enter the promised land.;-)

Same to you, goose. Do tell, why?

How about expanding the talent pool and supporter base? What's the benefit of not leveraging what we have over our primary (Australian) competitor, especially since there is a proven market for it?

Exactly.

When the NRL has a similar national footprint to the AFL, the point of difference will be the international factor.

NZ and the Pacific Islands already have a propensity towards all things Rugby - Union, League, Sevens, Touch - and now the 15-man code is professional it's all the same talent pool & the same market for playing talent going between all these variants.

St george could move their sydney games to SFS or something (people say it worked for souths because their fans are spread out. Id argue Dragons out do them there).

Saint George have the newest stands / stadiums in the NRL

Our last home games are only about 50% of capacity

Kogarah is 550 metres from a train station

we are the only team based in the South of Sydney

Yet people still make idiotic posts saying that moving hours away from Wollongong to a stadium that needs an upgrade and is far from a train station is a good idea....

Dont get me wrong, i love the idea of all teams having their own stadium, but if that means theyre all as shiity as Parramatta, penrith and Campbelltown then the best option is a centralised, great stadium.

But if a club has a shiny new stadium you still make posts wanting them to move to a stadium needing an upgrade

If you have a mind ... make it up

And to think we could be playing at the SFS only 2.5 hrs drive away in Friday night traffic instead. But the SFS has a roof and .... oh wait
