If no-one on the Gold Coast cares about their own team why would they bother with a transplanted team?

Terrible idea

The GC is a hole, let's just fill it in

a team on the gold coast can be supported well and successful. they just need to have enough funds to survive and thrive, and it sounds like the bears are capable of doing that, unlike the titans..

South Queensland Bears?
50-50 split between Suncorp and Robina?

Gives Brisbane an extra 6 games, satisfies the broadcasters desire for another team in the Brisbane market, would hopefully increase demand for tickets to Robina games, massive potential catchment area.

ya nailed it!

Hasn't worked in the last 25 years, what will be different?

They should be called the "Coastal Bears" - so many games on the Gold Coast and so many on the Central Coast.

east coast bears. can play anywhere up the eastern coast. can go into victoria as well

have any professional sports teams been able to be successful on the GC? i'm not talking about one or two seasons, i'm talking longer terms. if norths came back on the GC i can see it being a feel good thing for a year or two before impolding again and us having a discussion in a few years why another GC team failed. we cant bring in another sydney team, a compromise between the GC bears playing most of their games out of the tweed, and a couple of token ones at gosford will work for a short while but any major split of games (i.e. 50/50) wont work purely based on geographical distance. the tigpies cant get their leichardt crowd to campbelltown and vice versa.

i think the nrl need to finally euthanase this club and add a second brisbane club, a perth club, or even another kiwi club

the goldcoast clubs haven't been financial long enough to be strong consistently. it sounds like that bears leagues club up there makes a lot of money, so it might work if they have good management. if it happens, the team should still be a goldcoast team (goldcoast bears) but 1 home game at north sydney oval every year during heritage round is ok. the bears fans living in sydney would also have the bears away games in sydney that they could go to.

Coastal bears could work but east coast? No chance. Training facilities, transport etc etc, not worth the time and money needed.

Personally I think this idea has a lot of merit. The Titans get about 20 people to a game and the brand is performing poorly only making the finals twice in their existence.

I think adopting a similar structure with what GWS have done in the AFL with Canberra is the way to go. Expands the clubs junior development and supporter base.

Play 8 home games on the GC and 4 on the Central Coast. That is two huge junior bases for the club to build off and develop.

Then expand the comp in 5 years or so and have a team in Perth and another team in Brisbane.

This could be the Nissan / Renault merger Rugby League style

Nissan were a f**k up of a company with enormous debts
They merged with Renault, a company famous for never making any money and always requiring bail outs from the French government
Both companies generally made terrible cars no one wanted to drive

Then they merge and all of a sudden they start making cars people actually buy - they pay off all their debts and move towards profitability. It's a miracle.

With the Gold Coast you have an area where look at me whores who can't afford to live in Sydney dwell. It's Queensland's answer to Sydney's Eastern suburbs, a place where fans will only turn up if there is a "special event" on and they will only attend event where they need to be seen.

Mix that with the Central Coast, an area where absolutely f**king nothing ever happens, but the population can't even be bothered getting off their arses to go to any events at all. Even when a Sydney team drags 6,000 people up there, the attendance barely gets above 11,000. They may as well play games against interstate teams behind closed doors and save the wages of the bloke sitting at the turn-style.

Merge them together and all of a sudden it's a huge success

I'm on board - let's make it happen and let's get Nissan to sponsor them

the original Brisbane AFL team played on the GC and were called the Bears

I don't follow the AFL as closely as you do, but I was aware of that fact.

Gold coast bears does make sense

Play in red and black can train at seagulls at tweed heads where the lc is

Play 2 games a year at NSO

Reverse somewhat the biggest injustice in nrl ever

Bring in all the old bears to help coach

Farleigh , Moore , Taylor

Make florimo CEO

Seagulls Stadium no longer exists. Not sure how Piggabeen Sports Complex, where the Tweed Heads Seagulls play their Queensland Cup games, would shape up as an NRL standard training venue.

The Brisbane Lions used to be called the Brisbane Bears. Apart from it being a bit strange considering it used to be an AFL team, I'm sure there would be some roadblock preventing that from happening anyway.

The official name of the Lions is Brisbane Bears-Fitzroy Football Club. So they'd probably object.

Rather than Parramatta playing in the NT, the Roosters playing in Gosford, Souths playing in Perth, the Sharks being relocated to Adelaide, a busted arse basket case of nuffies playing on the Gold Coast etc what we need is a travelling showcase team

Let's call them the Amazing Australian migratory leper drop Bears and have them play in a different stadium each week

That way all the insignificant shit holes such as Darwin, the Gold Coast and Gosford can get a game each year and a team they can all call their own

I wonder how the titans fans feel about this. Chance to kick start a brighter future or another screw up that has cost them time and money getting behind the Titans? Any Titans fans on here?

They have no fans that's the issue. The whole GC has been stuffed up fullstop.

Keebra Park should be feeding them not WT
Logan academy should be their's not Canberra now Brisbane

The list goes on. Bears own Seagulls Leagues so already have a presence on the GC and if their name brings sponsors etc then great.

Queensland fans are notoriously parochial. I wonder if the team being half based in NSW would see locals turning against the GC (even more so than already)

if this occurs, what happens to the records? Do we say GC Bears, established 1908? est 2017? est 2007? Do we recognise Bears history? Do we recognise Titans history? Do they start again like the Dragons who have only one premiership?
