Personally I think this idea has a lot of merit. The Titans get about 20 people to a game and the brand is performing poorly only making the finals twice in their existence.
I think adopting a similar structure with what GWS have done in the AFL with Canberra is the way to go. Expands the clubs junior development and supporter base.
Play 8 home games on the GC and 4 on the Central Coast. That is two huge junior bases for the club to build off and develop.
Then expand the comp in 5 years or so and have a team in Perth and another team in Brisbane.
This could be the Nissan / Renault merger Rugby League style
Nissan were a f**k up of a company with enormous debts
They merged with Renault, a company famous for never making any money and always requiring bail outs from the French government
Both companies generally made terrible cars no one wanted to drive
Then they merge and all of a sudden they start making cars people actually buy - they pay off all their debts and move towards profitability. It's a miracle.
With the Gold Coast you have an area where look at me whores who can't afford to live in Sydney dwell. It's Queensland's answer to Sydney's Eastern suburbs, a place where fans will only turn up if there is a "special event" on and they will only attend event where they need to be seen.
Mix that with the Central Coast, an area where absolutely f**king nothing ever happens, but the population can't even be bothered getting off their arses to go to any events at all. Even when a Sydney team drags 6,000 people up there, the attendance barely gets above 11,000. They may as well play games against interstate teams behind closed doors and save the wages of the bloke sitting at the turn-style.
Merge them together and all of a sudden it's a huge success
I'm on board - let's make it happen and let's get Nissan to sponsor them
