Did it get used in ODI's? I remember in the domestic 50 over cricket you picked 12 and got to drop one off the batting order. McGrath didn't like that rule for some reason...

It was definitely used in ODIs.
You'd pick an extra payer to come on as a replacement who could bat, bowl, and wicket keep.
But once the sub has come on for another player they can't go back off for the other player to.come back on.

It was a rubbish idea, don't really like power plays either.

That supersub rule was stupid. From memory it usually gave a massive advantage to whoever batted first.
