I liked some of those guys, but you look at that squad and there is plenty of "meh" in terms of playing talent.

Stevens and Campbell the only really top talent. Mellor, Richardson, Dykes, Lang and Rhyno all good, but not much star power in that team.

You compare that to our recent teams, and it is no wonder we are consistently a finals threat these days.

I dunno wibs. That particular side was the last season of the Lang era and they made the prelim final.

Most of the core group were playing in the preceding 7 seasons of The Lang Years and did pretty well

There was always that certain special something missing though

Yeah, Campbell did well with them, and then he and Lang took Penrith to a premiership. Dykes on his day was good, and most the forwards were good workers.

But that squad is out the other side of the Peachey, Rogers, Barnett etc flashy era and Gallen is about to start his career with a squad that goes terribly for a half dozen years or so.

I think the preceding squads (especially the '99 and 2001 teams) could easily have won with a bit of luck.

There are some premiership squads that get by with one or two stars, but you look at our squad since 2016, or any other winner from the last few years except maybe Cowboys in 2015 (who had one genuine super star and a bunch of ok to good players), and they have great players all over the place (2016 we have Maloney, Barba, Ennis, Gallen, Graham, Lewis, Fifita as established stars and Bird and Holmes as up and coming stars, support players like Prior who would become an Origin rep).

If me old memory serves me well I also remember that that Pennies Premiership winning side had a couple of unstoppable second rowers that were causing havoc.

And the fullback Rhysie is still running around for the Mighty Emu Park.

So Gal didnt get a try vs the Warriors in all of his career.

Also stayed with us for half the price a couple of years ago, could have gone to the Knights.

"The book is loaded with explosive revelations, including one that will interest Newcastle fans.

It’s believed Gallen will reveal in the book why he stuck loyal to Cronulla in 2018 despite the attempts of former Knights head of recruitment Darren Mooney and assistant coach James Shepherd to try and lure Gal to the Hunter with the biggest offer of his entire career — at age 36.

The approach was worth double the money he was on at Cronulla.

The book is due for release on October 28 and is co-written by Sunday Telegraph colleague David Riccio."

I think this was the last year at Sharks for Besty and Rhyno before heading to the UK, closely followed by Treister

Did Treister go to UK? I thought when Anderfrickenson dropped him he retired to persue Business interests and was Quite successful. I liked him as a player ... Gave his all.

He went to HULL FC ( as did Besty and Rhyno) He was the crowd favourite at all their games, which was clear from listening to the games on Short Wave Radio back then (usually at 2AM in the morning here!)
Fans over there are or were so different to here ( we go silent when losing) They keep singing and encouraging their Team, win lose or draw!!

When Gallen got the Warriors huddle thing, he mentioned he had known Blake Green since they were 7 year old boys in Greystanes.

Did not know that.

After a Wikipedia check - Dean Triester was at HullFC for the 2003 season only, Sean Ryan was 02, 03 and Colin Best was 03, 04
