Gallop will still be Gallop. I don't think being chained to News has held him back from being, I think he's just generally not that good at his job. He's a bit like Tony Abbott, you won't get anything constructive from him unless it's been pre-prepared. He appears on NRL on Fox or the Footy Show and just repeats the same line over and over because he can't think on the spot. In fact if anything he'll go from being a News puppet to being a puppet without a puppetmaster and he'll just go back to being the sock before News gave him life.
No he is not, but with such stunning insight, maybe you are.
Good post Leigh. Lets see what Gallop can achieve when he's not hamstrung by the most ridiculous organizational structure ever seen.
well you certainly aren't .......
Perth Red and his usual moaning. Nice to see LU's resident whingeing pom getting a handle on this debate!
What the!
Gallop will be administering the game .He will not be arranging the structures, policies, programming.
These will be the domain of the new i.C.
As far as the new Tv negotiations, yes he will be involved,as will Smith of Lek (the advisers),but the final determinant will be the I.C.
Call him the water boy,the site foreman, the administrator, the face of the game ,but the architect or engineer he äint".
He is not guaranteed the full term of his contract. If his performance is below par,see you later.Just like the poor guys in management in financial institutions.
Lets see his performance with News out of the picture ,and the next Tv deal, before we all shoot the messenger.
Maybe he needs to do a litle weightlifting ,and come across as being in control and having authority by his sheer physical presence.
Do you think a talented CEO from a big industry such as mining, media, or banking, would be interested in the NRL job considering the money and prominence? I wouldn't think so.
Probably not but maybe a great 2ic looking for an opportunity might, or maybe a great CEO from another sporting organisation not as big as the NRL? Point is they didn;t even look (that we are aware of) and seems it was a done deal as part of the News withdrawal which does beg a lot of questions as to why they would want to see him stay?
No Australian sport is big enough to attract top corporate talent, even relatively junior talent. You only have to look at some of shonks that have been earning half a mill running licensed club organisations (Cronulla, Parramatta), not far south of what Gallop's job pays.
In fact, even the big overseas franchises and sporting organisations are not particularly attractive as career stepping stones - too many big egos and personal agendas, particularly when private ownership is a factor.
