1. Hodgson 6. Marshall 7. Prince 9. Farah

That is why we won the comp, and I'd say all of the above are more than just "handy" players.

2005 team playing like they did at the end of the season would have won regardless of any rules.. Watch the highlight reels and u well see tries that came from brilliance and nothing to do with play the balls. We were never able to keep that same team together after that year to give us any chance to replicate that form again.

The hilarious thing about that year, and that spine, were all the comments to the press by Sheens about the importance of those positions and so on at the time. So who did he replace Prince with - John f**king Morris. Played 72 straight for us in either 6, 7 or 9. What a merkin.

I didn't say 2005 wasn't entertaining, just that the rule changes were overboard.

Geez...you are drawing a very long bow comparing the class of 2005 Tigers to the class of the team below. There is a reason very few 2005 Tigers went on to play rep football which kind of emphasises my point.

1. Brett Mullins
2. Ken Nagas
3. Mal Meninga (c)
4. Ruben Wiki
5. Noa Nadruku

6. Laurie Daley
7. Ricky Stuart

8. Bradley Clyde
9. Jason Croker
10.David Furner
11.Paul Osbourne
12.Steve Walters
13.Quentin Pongia
The Balmain 1989 side was one of the best sides I saw on paper. The only weakness really was Andy Currier defensively

1 - Garry Jack
2 - Steve O'Brien
3 - Tim Brasher
4 - Andy Currier
5 - James Grant
6 - Michael Neil
7 - Gary Freeman
8 - Steve Roach
9 - Ben Elias
10 - Steve Edmed
11 - Paul Sironen
12 - David Brooks
13 - Wayne Pearce

No offence dude. To this day I have never seen anyone throw a pass as long and accurate as Ricky Stuart, or kick as long as accurate as him. The guy was a freak and well ahead of anyone including Joey in that regard. Joey was a more complete halfback with more tricks and a better running game. I won't get into the Prince vs Thurston debate as they are both good halfbacks. Prince probably deserved a go at rep and you may be right about the incumbent.

There is no way Hodgson was better or deserved to replace Minichiello especially in the year Minichiello got his Golden Boot award.

Tigers didn't get many rep honours because quite frankly with the exception of maybe Prince they didn't deserve it. They were a team of handy players with excellent attacking halves that excelled under the interpretation of the rules at the time. The interpretation of those rules that did not apply to rep football, or any other calendar year.

No offence taken.

Re Stuart - he came from Union and thus the long pass and tactical kick were the basis of his game. Like many right handers, he passed superlatively to the left. The right wasn't crash hot but at the time, running with that team, whatever shortcomings he may have had were easily glossed over.

Probably the opposite of Johns at Newcastle.

Re Prince - I reckon he passes the ball off both sides as good as anyone I've seen. As to the 2005 crossfield show and go, with multiple incoming attackers running intricate angles, hey, f**k it dude, it was a thing of beauty. Cliff Lyons was probably weeping.

Re Mini and Hodgsen - apples and oranges mate. Mini was a kick return specialist, Brett was a true fullback of the old school. Interestingly, Peter Dimond rates Hodgsen above Ken Irvine so who really knows eh?

Meanwhile, thanks for the input. It beats listening to Borat any day.

tsk tsk... I could say the same for anyone who actually tries to compare the '05 Tigers to the '94 raiders. Serious delusional to be comparing one of the weakest premiership teams on paper to one of the strongest.

.
You will find that Dimond actually rates Hodgson as Churchill's equal.

Check out his book, good read (not to mention RLP gets a mention in the back :D)

its not played on paper. we might not have had as many superstars in our team in 2005 compared to other grand final teams but they played very well as a team. st.choke had alot more reps in their team that year but we played as a team better

No way one of the weakest teams. Sarkmeorf Dice !!... We had some serious talent in that side.

There was no other player I'd love watching play than Hodgo (at his peak). Just a smart, talented player. In "04" and "05" I rated him up there with Princey and then Benji following these two and perhaps Phats. The last year he was with us he was playing on one leg. It was unfortunate that his last year with the club somewhat diminished how really important he was to this club. He played for a year or 2 too long.
