Game Day vs Raider

The halves were always going to take time and there are obvious issues.
Hynes couldn't play off the back foot in the first half. He needs to get physical in defence. Lacked a bit of Situational awareness getting tackled on the 4th too many times.
Moyza was Moyza. Some good, some bad. His lack of a kicking game is a real handbrake on attacking sets.

In the forwards, there are too many bench props and not enough who can lay a platform from the beginning. Rudolf and BHU are more effective off the bench. So is Hunt.

On the plus side, they showed character to overcome a poor first half and 12 point deficit. Didn't nail the big plays. Ramien giving away the penalty when they were shot was poor. Just have to get that right.

Welcome to that sense of inevitability that is Cronullafication, coach Fitz.

After an abysmal first half, pretty happy with the fight back. Some thoughts:
- Hynes showed potential but was getting caught running with no options around him. Hopefully this will improve as the team get used to playing with him. Showed glimpses of what he can bring (that deep kick to relieve pressure could only be better if it went into touch).

- Moylan looked like he hadn’t played for 6 months. Nice field goal. That’s about all the positives I have for him. Still rather Trindall.

- Ramien has got by on his potential. He needs to make it count because his play is infuriating. First try he has the opportunity to stop the offload but backs off, and then falls on the chase. The penalty at the end was about the dumbest thing I’ve seen on a football field. He is becoming like James Roberts without the speed.

- Tolman adds nothing. No impact, no questions of the opposition, slow play the balls. If he sees a game beyond 300 it will be a joke.

- Ronaldo looked bad defensively. Rushing in when not needed, etc. Think he’ll improve there.

- Ikuvalu was ok. Needs to run harder on his returns. Looked like he was exhausted in the lst couple of minutes.

- Cummins is still the shortest referee in the game. Didn’t cost the Sharks, but he is awful.

Considering our Round 1 record, and recent record against Canberra, I’m not too disappointed.

Are you for real???
Come back after non posting and pick out Kennedy and Ramien, same as you used to pick out Peachey.
What's the similarity?

Wouldnt have agreed that Kennedy was weak had an up and down game. Most fullbacks would have had a hard time to stop that at the end.

100% Ramien has massive discipline issues. Would always be my favourite to get sin binned for a professional foul. Don’t think he’s a smart player.

"Just like last season"
Kennedy was our player of the year.
Were you around on this forum when Peachey played? If you were you would have seen his "agenda", he is what he is. I have more respect for people who admit it, not try and hide through a passive/aggressive stance.

Nah wasn't around - agreed targeting of Kennedy is silly, was brilliant last year most improved and deservingly so.

Had a mixed game, no lack of faith in him.

Ramien however, very much a different story for me.

Mate I agree that Ramien did a silly thing, but he did not lose us the game. Watch the first-half again, that's what lost us the game.
Edit: notnjust the black fellas that he wants to put blame on

Certainly agree as per my comments in here earlier - his error though was a cardinal sin- and unfortunately I think it's a common theme from him, will double down on him not being an intelligent footballer with no fear of the opinion.

Plenty of moments add up to 'losing' a game.

Lot of good signs - Brailey was much improved without Woods next to him depleting all of his energy all game - how much nicer was that.

So what if any changes do you make for next week. Harder game in my opinion
This may be controversial but if Tracey is fit, and I talked to him today, there is a chance, Ronny on the wing is a better chance of scoring that try at the end, also he would not have dropped that sitter in the first half.
Plus, let's see if McInnes is available

Will take a few matches to get the 6/7 combination going, definitely lacked cohesion on finishing sets and getting the right one of them into the right position.

I've always been a bit of a Matt Moylan critic in the halves, I don't think he's a natural. Hopefully it works out long term.

Thought Fifita played better than most of us would expect...

Not sure I’d make any real changes, aside from changing the bench. No need for Tolman, and would be better suited with some kind of utility.

Any other changes would be dependent on which injured players are available.

Edit:
I would change up the rotations. Tolman should not be playing 49 minutes FFS. Particularly when Hunt got 12!

- Lack of a genuine 7 showed with kicking game & set completions, except for Hynes's one good deep kick into the corner on the 4th tackle
- Makes it harder to build momentum & pressure - not as good field position, no repeat sets, handing over the ball on 6th tackle several times
- Moylan/Hynes too often tackled on 5th - makes last tackle option far too predictable
- General lack of creativity imo. Really tried to force our way through the middle and hope for the best late in the set. Eg - late in the game, field goal set, 5 simple hitups from forwards before Moyza slots it. Yes the net result was there but we got lucky with such a predictable last tackle option. Why not spread it on the 3rd?
- Ronaldo definitely less impactful as a centre. Miss his 1st/2nd tackle hitups to create momentum
- Hunt only got 12 minutes?

Positives...
- Brailey looked sharp. Few good runs, looked dynamic early, and the try obviously
- Finucane 45 tackles. 0 missed
- Wilton looked damaging, really exciting
- Fifita helped change momentum. Got under their skin and his impact helped earn our try & only penalty of the first half
- Some good signs with Hynes & Moylan individually both setting up a try each

I would not play Tolman or Moylan, the team must come first. Hunt and Talaki off the bench together ad real go forward. Move Ivalaku to center and Ronni back to wing. Ramien needs the mistakes coached out. Tieg to start every game if fit. Fifita is the motivator and now has his old legs back. Brailly running again from dummy half is great to see . We will improve.

Hunt was a weapon, so was Talakai, we needed them and when they were on we were on top.
I honestly think that Fitzy played this game like a trial. I'm serious.
