Well we know from the wiki that the smoke monster/man in black can assume other people's identities. 9701 was michael. Michael lost his son to pirates/others.

This leads me to believe Mis is the smoke monster.

A man with a fake looking beard dispatched the Arctic beast immediately afterwards.

Another Polar Bear is dead. He was Polar Bear indie aligned misplaced beast​
