i will admit that alot of changes need to be made but turfing St George, one of the most recognisable clubs in the NRL with one of the proudest traditions to ADELAIDE is just ridiculous. i get that we might have to merge at some point and we will have to deal with that, but no way in hell is the NRL gonna send the Dragons to another city.

I'm not sure whether Gallop and Co. are professional to run the NRL like a business?

There needs to be a combined effort from the Corporate, the Clubs and the Media if we are to turn the tables on the NRL.

I say...........BRING THE GAME BACK TO THE PEOPLE.

Rugby League was and should always be the game for the everyday Australian.

I feel physically sick when I watch footage of games from the 60's and 70's with massive, energetic crowds packing into shabby stadiums.

Now............. only a cashed up person can afford the $20+ entry, $5 meat pie and $5.50 beer let alone all the other 'on costs' to attend a game of footy.

I know we have something called inflation, but lets get real........I take my kids to movies, ten pin bowling, zoo, etc etc only once or twice ayear due to the cost. Footy everyweek is simply unaffordable.

To tell you the truth. I'm already over Sonny bullsh1t Williams. I'm already of Gasnier.

When you see someone die of cancer at age 38, these things don't really seem all that important all of a sudden.

Sonny Bullsh1t needs to sleep at night with no medication. That's now his problem. Not ours.

How can you justify having 3 sides in Greater Brisbane (pop 1.8m) and only 1 side in Sydney's greater west (pop 2m)?

1.8m in Greater Brisbane? Get your figures correct.

And you look at Greater Sydney, not just Greater Western Sydney.

You look at the location of teams. It's much better getting 30,000 to 1 game than 16,000 to 2 games.

unfortunately we live in different times fibro. if you ain't good with money you won't make it in these days

we need businessmen in the game, not the ex footyplayers/refs/lackies that we have at the moment

what about a Pacific Islander team? $hitoads of polynesians would jump at the chance and would be a competitive team. think outside the square people, instead of squabbling over the scraps of who will be left without a team.
one team each in SA & WA. perhaps another Kiwi team.

get rid of 4 Sydney clubs, and we would have a unique competition.
then expand to another club in Vic and start attacking the AFL on their own turf, much like they are doing to us now (Western Sydney, Gold Coast)

I'll probably get shot down for this but here it goes:

I'm a passionate one-eyed Eels fan. I am a season ticket holder, buy all the latest jerseys & watch every game they play. But I also love Rugby League. I love the game, it is without doubt the greatest game of all. The game will always survive, it will never die. But if we keep going in the direction that we are how will the game look in 20 years time? Will it be a premier Football comp demanding Millions in TV & sponsorship deals with sell-out crowds or will it continue to lose it's top players & battle against AFL & Soccer?

I believe we have to go national & if that means my beloved Parramatta Eels merging then so be it. This is my opinion of what should happen:

NRL - 16 teams

Parramatta Panthers
East Sydney Eagles
Wests Tigers
Central Coast Bulldogs
South Sydney Sharks
WA Reds
Adelaide Rams
NZ Warriors
Wellington
Nth Qld Cowboys
Brisbane Broncos
GC Titans
Canberra Raiders
Newcastle Knights
Melbourne Storm
St george-Illawarra Dragons

Let'd do what's best for the game & it's future, not what's just best for ourselves because in the end it will come back to bit us on the arse!

Funny how everyone is blaming the NRL yet Gallop is one of the few who is coming out and saying culling Sydney teams is a bad thing and not on the agenda!

So what is it, are the NRL wrong and the Sydney teams should be culled or do you support the NRL strategy of keeping the league as is?

Would this work:

1. Clubs are offered the chance to win a licence for the 2010 NRL season. A club can already be in the NRL, or from another league. Any club can apply if they wish.

2. Each club is then graded on a list of criteria, with them earning one point for each criteria they hit. Criterias will include their turnover, junior development, crowds and contribution to competition amongst others.

3. Each club is then given an A licence, a B licence or a C licence depending on how well they score.

4. The top 14 teams are given a place in the 2010 NRL competition.

5. Any club with a B or C licence will be given targets in order to try and achieve an A licence.

6. After three seasons licences will be reviewed again. Some clubs could lose their licence status whilst others could gain a licence. There is a possibility that the league will expand to more teams.

To me this is the only fair way.

The AFL and it's media alliances have been in overdrive this year in an attempt to de-stabilise our Centenary Celebrations and World Cup. In response to this and couple of players leaving, the RL community has broken into mass hysteria!

WTF is everyone doing??!!. This is exactly what the AFL wanted. Look at us. Culling teams, scrapping the cap, etc doing everything but focus on celebrating our great game.

Everyone please calm down!!!

YES Gallop has showed poor leadership

YES NEWS has a conflict of interest

YES Gallop has no passion for RL

YES the NRL have done nothing to address the falling image of the game

YES we need to find ways to keep our best players in the game.

Everyone needs to stay strong and stop playing into the hands of the AFL. We can work through our issues and move the game forward. Knee-jerk reactions just helps create the impression our game is in disarray.

sharks dragons to adelaide? so all of south west sydney, the southern beaches and the illawarra are left without a team? righhhht.

I clearly said no mergers - Sharks / Dragons means one of those teams to Adeliade and the other stays there. I even mentioned that in the post.

The Sharks are certainly in a stupid place geographically. Sandwiched in between St George and Illawarra. It definitely makes sense to relocate them, and turn their Jrs over to the Saints.

or merge them with souths.
i like the sharks, i think they are a good team. but are being suffocated by the saints. the cronulla-sutherland area isnt exactly a gold mine...

If we were to keep teams in Sydney without mergers and some minor traditional border realignments [which are needed anyway] then 6 teams in Sydney on strategic compass points isn't so hard :)

Northern Sydney - Manly
North Western Sydney - Parramatta
Greater Western Sydney - Penrith
South Western Sydney - West Tigers
Southern Sydney - Bulldogs
Central Sydney - Roosters

Sorry Dragons, Souths & Sharks fans but there are too many teams in that part of Sydney. Maybe Dragons to Woolongong / South Coast permanently. Souths to central coast? Sharks?
