North Qld Cowboys
Brisbane Broncos
Gold Coast Titans
Newcastle-Central Coast Knights
Wests-Canterbury Bulldogs
Parramatta-Penrith Panthers
Sydney-St George Illawarra Dragons
Canberra Raiders
Melbourne Storm
Adelaide Sharks
Perth Rabbitohs
New Zealand Warriors

Looks good to me. Then below this they can bring back the old NSWRL Premiership with the likes of the traditional Sydney clubs including Newtown, Balmain and Norths.

I say this 'culling' has to happen to save the game. The UK SUper League is heading the same way but with co-operation!

I don't know...This is a tough one. And it isn't going to get easier as the game will have to make some very tough calls in the near future...

If you were forming the comp from scratch today, how many teams would you base in Sydney? 3-4 max I'd say...

At the same time you don't want another SL situation, and clubs falling by the wayside would be a bad thing for certain.

Someone will have to make a harsh call eventually, I'm just glad I don't support a Sydney club, some of them are certain to get burned.

Ribot is in France, eh? Hmmmm....

What a scummy individual he turned out to be. Who'd have thought a pretty ordinary winger could play such a big part in ruining a whole sport?

Lets see:
Perth -> No interest in rugby league. Good bye Souths fans.
Adelaide -> No interest in rugby league. Good bye Cronulla fans.
Melbourne -> No interest in rugby league.
Wests-Canterbury -> Good bye Balmain fans + Wests fans.
Gold Coast Titans -> Rehash of team that failed time and again.
Paramatta-Penrith Panthers -> Goodbye to significant parra base.
New Zealand -> Major competition with Union: fraught with danger.
Brisbane Broncos -> business as usual.
Canberra Raiders -> A place no player wants to go.

Excellent plan of rugby league. Our future is safe.

Gotta love your optimism about Perth but they have along way to go.
MES is a great facility to play at (Played there in early July) but the support just simply isnt there. I know it was only JBC but, the Newspaper in Perth called us the Belmore Eagles (Supposed to be Belrose). So they are really taking no interest.
They really need a NRL club to take a few games over to show what top flight live rugby league is like, and that may get more bums on seats.

As far as the Sydney - St George Illawarra Dragons.....I will be damned if the Roosters have to join forces with the bloody Dragons :)

So, to sum up.

In 100 years, North Sydney had so little impact on the rugby league landscape that they were able to be given the arse from the competition despite it's heritage and no one really gave a f*ck.

Natural selection in action.

I just wish Souths would follow, they were wrong in letting them back in.
The Central Coast gave a f**k I can assure you.

What happened to the Bears was disgraceful. Essentially the NRL sent a loud message saying "Hey guys, if you're considering making sacrifices for the good of the game, we'll f**k you over the first chance we get".

No wonder clubs aren't exactly falling over each other to relocate.

Back on topic.....12 teams is too few IMO.

And f**k me, a Newcastle/Central Coast team is the dumbest idea I've heard of in all of today. Surely the Northern Eagles proved how futile that sort of arrangement is. Newcastle are fine as is, Central Coast have PROVEN it has the demographics to support their own team in numbers (the Mariners). Plus, a Newcastle/Central Coast rivalry would be massive.

Also, there needs to be a team in Northern Sydney - So keep Manly I guess.

Ribot had his marching orders a long time ago.......he is just like Willie Mason, the only crap that comes out of his mouth is $$$ driven drivel.

Shut up, Ribot.......you have done enough damage already........the NRL needs to lay its sword down? Why? So your News Limited cronies can get their mits all over it again?

Cull every team and start from scratch. Its the only way to start anew. Do exactly what the a-league has done. Its funny that the only people supporting the move to cull certain teams are the ones who know their team is safe. Get off the grass you f**k1ng merkins and think from the other teams' point of views.

Highly unlikely... but I think it would work.

The New-NRL would set up team locations for groups/consortiums to bid for, initial set up 10-12 teams, then couple of years later 14-16 = all new teams in every major population centre, something we actually have a headstart over the AFL with.

But... what of Newcastle, Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne etc? New expansion clubs with a following... why erase them? And there lies the problem... we needed to do this back in the 80s, rather than just expand the Sydney comp.

Difference is no one gave a flying f**k about soccer in Australia. No one was going to the games and no one was watching on TV.

The Central Coast gave a f**k I can assure you.

And their crowds were so great the Northern Eagles abandon the Central Coast midway through and paid the penalty payment.

And their crowds for the games played there this year have been massive haven't they? Almost as good as the outstanding 6,000 odd the AFL have got to the Gold Coast this year.

There should be teams in

- North QLD (Cowboys)
- Brisbane Nth Side (Broncos)
- Brisbane Sth Side (New or relocated team to ANZ Stadium land - build a new stadium though - location is fine, but stadium is sh*t)
- Ipswich (new or relocated team)
- Gold Coast
- Newcastle
- Manly
- Souths
- Parramatta
- St George or Sharks
- Canberra
- Melbourne
- Adelaide
- Perth
- Auckland
- Wellington

Maybe Penrith can relocate to Ipswich, Roosters to Sth Brisbane, Wests to Perth, Bulldogs to Wellington, and Sharks/Dragons to Adelaide.

No teams have been cut or merged, just some relocated. Relocation works as the AFL has shown. The Swans are a perfect example. The Brisbane Bears were a massive failure and went broke 3 times in their first 10 years before being taken over by the Lions. The AFL were desperate for a club to relocate the Gold Coast because new teams don't work. Relocation has a ready-made supporter base.

Manly - the only team on the Northern parts of Sydney
Souths - Get far better support than the Roosters
Sharks/Dragons - About equal, but only room for 1.
Parramatta - Between them the Dogs, and Wests. The other 2 teams are better suited to relocation than Parra who don't need to play at Homebush to be sustainable. And Wests play at about 4 different stadiums.

I just feel you are creating huge holes for soccer and AFL to move right into....

Having Parra as the most western Sydney team is leaving over half of Sydney with no team except AFL and soccer...

Part of me wished that the ARL/Super League thing worked out totally different. More Super14 like. Part of the year split into Conferences QLD and NSW centred (playing over 30 teams) and then a SUPER Comp with the best 10 or 12 teams. (in a format like Super14)

wow imagine my surprise when it was only mentioned that sydney teams feel any pain.

May I suggest another option fugg of Brisbane, Melbourne,Titans, New Zealand, & NQ. Reveret to the NSWRL, let the others play in the QRL. Lets see which comp survives then.

Hell yeah! I'm being serious....bring back the NSWRL and screw everyone else, no one else cares about us, so why should we?
