Because the entire internet spread around theories f**king predicting it. f**k I'd hate to be D&D sometimes, you just make a wonderful episode and then some idiots say 'yeah that was pretty well done but we already predicted it, soooo, sorry'.

Theron's sis flirting with Dany - called it, Rickton killed at the start - called it, Ramsay fed to the dogs - called it

It's all so predictable....hate it when I'm right all the time.

Solid ep, finally some decent scenes in Meereen. I'm glad they let that slaver dude live, Enzo Cilenti is a great actor for such a small role, they might have future plans for him.

There was a lot of teleportation going on but it's just something you have to ignore.

It was predictable, but why does everything need to be unpredictable? If some fans had it their way, every episode would be unpredictable just for the sake of it. Sansa sacrificed a lot of her men so she could get Ramsay by surprise. That's war. Deal with it.

That wasn't close to Hardhome. The Door is the best episode of the season so far. Today was just too predictable. It was a good episode, just not great.

Thinking back, did Sansa even tell Jon about the Vale and Littlefinger's offer of support? Did Jon not think to ask them for help? Do the Boltons and the other houses that fought for them have no scouts? How did the Knights of the Vale make it to Winterfell unseen and so quickly? It works as a deus ex machina in Lord of the Rings because it's a ghost army. That kind of thing doesn't work when it's thousands of real living people who have to travel halfway across the continent through enemy held territory.

The way all that was handled seemed like lazy writing, unless I'm overlooking something.

Was anyone else scared that Ramsay would sneakily pull out a dagger while Jon was having at him on the ground?

I thought Rickon would give it a go

He must have known he was dead

As Sansa said he was Ned's last known legitimate direct male heir

From a narrative perspective, that played out much as I expected it to. I'm not sure that's a bad thing, though. Part of the reason we escape to these fantasy worlds (be they fantasy, drama, sci-fi, or other) is that this occasional predictability is a comforting thing.

Would I have been happier with the episode if Jon had been mowed down by cavalry, Sansa captured and murdered, and the Stark storyline snuffed out? Would I be satisfied with a downer ending for the simple sake that a happy ending was predictable?

I enjoyed the episode for the spectacle that it was. The cinematography, the choreography, and the stunt work were just leagues ahead of anything else you traditionally see on television.

While the Mereen content - especially Theon and Yara's visit - were rushed a little, it was one of the few times I've actually cared about (and cheered for) something Daenerys was doing. It was immensely satisfying to finally see the dragons in true action and to see what was a boring plotline both in the books and in the show to some kind of ending. The Dothraki horde riding in almost felt like an afterthought, especially given the paltry number of Sons of the Harpy at the gates.

I loved that shot of a disheartened and heartbroken Davos standing by Shereen's pyre as the sun rose, even if I feel like Davos should perhaps have already put two and two together on this. How did he think Shereen had died?

That battle scene...

Jon was an emotional idiot, but that's precisely what he needed to be. This was his brother's killer and his sister's rapist. This was his first real pitched battle and I don't mind that he acted like an impetuous fool. That's the cloth that he was cut from, and it was certainly thrilling watching as he survived first a cavalry charge, then a melee, and then a hail of arrows through dumb luck.

One of the more visceral battle scenes I've seen. The impacts and the mud and that f**king intense scene where you watched via uncomfortable shaky-cam as Jon was crushed between a muddy, bloody pile of bodies was just grim.

The arrival of Baelish was Helm's Deep predictable and perhaps a bit too conveniently timed, but given the brutality of what we'd sat through - I don't necessarily hate that. I'd have liked it to be less convenient, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Wen Wen dying to beat down the gate, Jon making such short work of the smug merkin, and Sansa feeding Ramsay to his own dogs were all satisfying.

I would have liked it if somebody important had died simply to up the stakes, but I don't know who that would have been. Davos is a favourite from the books and has unfinished business, Tormund is an immense amount of fun, and any other Night's Watch/Wildling characters that could have eaten it were long ago killed off, written out, or sent away.

And don't you dare tell me they could have killed the Lady Mormont.

Vale Rickon. Vale Ramsay.

I think next week's episode might be a little explosive.

Also there wasn't adequate toilet facilities at winterfell for such a big army

Honestly bro, it's escapism not a doco

No, of course she didn't tell Jon. It all goes back to when she withheld from Jon that she went to meet up with Littlefinger. She didn't tell Jon or the others because she wanted it done her own way without any possible objections.

Littlefinger is the smartest man in Westeros. I'm sure he and arguably the best army in Westeros could figure out ways to avoid detection.

Gandalf didn't rock up to Helm's Deep with a ghost army.

I don't understand the pointless nitpicking. It's an epic fantasy people.

Were the Manderly's alongside Ramsay? I could pick out the Smalljon (obviously) and a few Karstark banners, but did I just miss the Manderly contingent?

As Rickon is running, it's super tense. Suddenly my girlfriend and I scream 'PIVOT!' simultaneously. So we were laughing pretty hard when he died.

It was predictable, but it had to be. What else could have possibly happened in that episode?

Next week is going to be a wild ride though.

That's just a cop out.

There is tonnes of fantasy and sci fi that holds up to scrutiny.

I like how whenever anything is questioned the defenders arc up with 'it's just a bit of fun, who cares' defense.

You could either make it predictable but logical, or unpredictable but stupid. People need to watch the show and not scrutinise it.

I find it hard to believe Sansa would have snuck off without telling Jon or Jon not asking where Sansa was prior to battling the Boltons.

Realistically she wouldn't have hung Jon out to dry and would have told him she was going to get the Knights of Vale before. Jon would then have waited for Sansa to retur
before setting off on an impossible battle against the Boltons.

But where would be the fun in that if hat happened?????

Had they mentioned the Manderlays as being aligned with the Boltons? I can't recall, and in the books their role is substantially different.

But it is just a bit of fun

I mean Jon Snow was literally brought back from the dead by an old woman with the tits of a teenager
