Game of Thrones VIII

One thing keeps being pointed out that I disagree with being an issue: conflict between Bran saying he didn't want anything and Bran taking the throne. The two aren't mutually exclusive. Jon didn't want a lot of things but took them on anyway. Bran doesn't want to be king but he knows he was meant to be.

That’d be fine if the whole not wanting was because he was all in on being the 3ER. You can’t build the character up to be this kind of detached history book who plays a passive role in the realm to then go and put him on the throne and he’s like “why do you I came all this way?”

So... best episode of the series?

S6E10 Winds of Winter for me. Battle of the bastards, red wedding, S4e10 (the children?) up there.

S6 E5 The Door. Hodor. Still tough to watch
S4 E1 Two Swords. Every f**king chicken in the room. The Hound and Arya awesomeness
S1 E6 Golden Crown. Any episode that had Robert Baratheon ranting from S1 -this one was a standout part of Danarys story as well. Dothraki awesomeness.

the character up to be this kind of detached history book

Imo this is precisely why he is the best person for the job assuming there's no underlying motives.

Hes emotionless and has no ambitions. He can see all the mistakes past kings have made. There is theoretically no ulterior motives behind any decision he will make. I'd argue he lacks every personality trait that has made prior kings "bad".

I agree with that
Jon got Lord Comander, King of the North, and he was good at fighting but didn’t like it

He needed to do all those things. Who cares what he wants

I guess when the show turned to shit, people start hate watching it and pick up every little thing. It has a snowballing effect
Jon became Lord Commander and King in the North because he is a natural leader, the did what is good and right for the people and they rallied behind him and chose him. He proved his ability to lead and rule.

Bran? ‘Well, he tells the best stories’. Whether there was an actual justification for making him king, it definitely wasn’t outlined.

The way the show told his story is f**ked. They even left him out of a whole season. In the books I hope his character is developed more to show he is worthy

But people complaining “he said he didn’t want it anyway” are ignoring that Jon never wanted any leadership as well.

That’s fine if he could be an objectively good king
But they set his arc up and his motivations around being the 3ER, not a King

I won’t be shocked if Bran ends up on the throne in the books but again it’s how they get there in the show that is problematic

He’s spent the whole season saying he’s not a stark, he doesn’t want anything and generally being some weird kid who’s about warging and all that, and then flips 180 degree and is like “f**k yeah, give me the throne, that’s why I’m here”

They didn’t lay out this story as this being a journey that builds bran up to be a great king. They built it up to be about his destiny being the 3ER, which btw they made to be a pretty f**king significant role, arguably one more important to the realm than the king, and now he’s just like f**k that, imma be king?

It’s a no from me in terms of executing that story arc
Again like a lot of this season, the destination is fine but the journey getting here was lazy and boarding on incompetent writing and story telling

That whole council thing was a bit ridiculous. Tyrion has never had any respect in Westeros and that’s before murdering Tywin and returning as the hand to a foreign invader. Now his word is gospel when choosing a king. Sansa would be the only one with any time for him and she didn’t vote. Choosing Bran felt very shoe-horned too. I feel like GRRM has Bran as king but they couldn’t figure out a good way for it to make sense.

I mean think about this
Tyrion, a man in chains, on trial just picked the new king based on his story and the ability to illiterate his name, who is a stark and by laws in Westeros the rightful heir to Winterfell

And so they all agree to put a stark on the throne and then the north just f**king secedes and everyone is like “yeah sounds good” and no one else is like “well ok, since it’s been brought up and accepted, we in Dorne aren’t really about this shit either” and then Tyrion is just made the hand, the dude in chains who half wanted dead 5 seconds ago is now the second most powerful man in the realm... and grey worm is there the entire time, his queen has been murdered and he’s like “oh well, guess we didn’t get the result this time, always tomorrow for avenging my queens murder... off to Naath we go!”

I mean it’s all just a cluster f**k of stupid

So after reading the spoilers I didn’t actually watch the episode, and instead experienced it purely through memes. That has actually made it quite an enjoyable experience.

Greyworm, ''we are going to Naath''. A country so toxic to outsiders you can only spend a couple of hours there.

Slavers only go there at night because of the butterfly fever. However, he is going to take his army there.

Tyrion should have been put on trial, and then requested trial by combat (for the 3rd time). Enter Jon Snow vs Greyworm.

Those f**king butterflies are in for a bad time, he and the Unsullied are going to wipe the f**k the out, which is a needed release after they

*checks notes*

let their queen get murdered, didnt take any retribution what so ever, didnt gut the man where he stood once he confessed (a confession we didnt f**king see) waited idly by for the lords and ladies to come to a city they conquered and owned, to decide a new king, who was the cousin (or half brother, pending on what you know) of the man who murdered your queen, and then he basically pardoned the man and you were like "well f**k, you win some and you lose some i guess... f**k this shit, lets got to Naath and f**k some butterflies up"

The memes have been much better than the episode itself.

Can’t wait for the Star Wars trilogy, apparently Dan and Dave are getting Ruin Johnson in to help write the script.
