I hate rape, and I especially hate it when writers use it as a cheap ploy to garner hatred for the rapist so we cheer for the protagonist ("The Hills Have Eyes", anyone?).

However, I thought the scene was crucial - they didn't show anything, but it hammered home just how despicable Ramsay is as a human. It was an uncomfortable scene, but it had its place in the moment.

I half-expected Theon to snap out of it and snap Ramsay's neck.

Me too

I was hoping for it but alas

This

It was up their with the pinball scene in the accused for me

I certainly didn't feel like a spot of rape after watching, quite the opposite

In the book Ramsay makes theon join in ffs

Exactly. The objection seems to be that it happened to what feminists are calling a 'strong female character'. I read an article today saying that the show does not allow strong females to exist without being dominated by men.

It's like they are completely unfamiliar with human history. Strong females have almost always been at the mercy of men. I'm definitely not saying it's right or that it was always the case, but for a book/show based on historical events (with added fantasy elements) and whose central plot is that humans are more monstrous than the supernatural creatures they fear, it stands to reason that even the most strong-willed, intelligent woman is going to be at risk.

The rape as depicted doubtless happened countless thousands of times across human history (although their dickless servant probably wasn't there to watch). It was cold and it was rape, but it wasn't gratuitous. It wasn't even needlessly brutal. I know of girls whose first time was pretty (sadly) similar.

When I was reading all the outrage about that scene, I was expecting a lot more shit to happen to Sansa then just simple rape, especially considering it involved Ramsay. Then all it was was a close up of Theon's face with some noise in the background. I don't see what the big deal is at all, and most here seemingly don't either. Hooray for complaining about shit that isn't a big deal!

Feminists will find a reason to get pissy over anything popular. So many butthurt armchair crusaders on my news feed calling for people to boycott the show in the same way men have boycotted their unshaven legs for years now.

How many feminists does it take to change a lightbulb?

three. One to actually change it and the other two to suck my c**k.

Since when has Sansa been a strong female character?

She was seemingly heading that way. Then she got dumped off to the Ramsays and she's back in the same predicament that she was in before with Joffrey (though probably worse).

I found some articles about this.
This just makes me shake my head.

Before we dive into why we felt this was a choice which would cause us to stop promoting the show, allow us to say something very important: rape is not a necessary plot device.

Really?
Never seen The Accused, Irreversible, Straw Dogs, A Clockwork Orange?

In this particular instance, rape is not necessary to Sansa’s character development

Really?
So I'm assuming you've seen the rest of the series then?

So after the rape scene, what did we learn? Absolutely nothing that we didn't already know. That's the mark of bad storytelling: when neither the plot nor the characters are furthered in any considerable way.

Once again, someone assuming when they haven't seen what happens in future episodes.

The show has spent the past few episodes building up Sansa and giving her some agency alongside Littlefinger, only to rip it away again in last night's scene.

And what's wrong with that?
Nowhere does it say that all your female characters must be strong.

Such a dumb f**king argument. You could apply it to so many other scenes.

Not to mention the fact it's f**king realistic *amd* should solidify Sansa on her path to going full Lady Stoneheart on mother-f**kers.
