Yep, that's exactly how it goes. You have a perfect understanding of the subject matter. I award you full marks and a lollipop, Pete.Excuse me! I'd like to say a couple of truths to the men in this audience. It's your fault we have so much crime in this country! And it's your fault we have so much violence in this country! You are ruining our society, and you should be ashamed!
No, I understand sarcasm. I personally wouldn't say many of the things in this thread sarcastically or otherwise, and would think less of those who did in my presence. True story, I just don't see the humour in it. It's not a humourous topic to me. Tell me, which sarcasm is it that I'm apparently missing, mate? Seems more like just a convenient blanket statement to dismiss my comments outright.I think perverse should spend less time at feminist rallies and more time at 'How to Undersfand Sarcasm' rallies.
No, I understand sarcasm.
Not sure if ridiculing me or proving my point.
Holy shit, my brain just exploded from irony. You're special, firechild. Just for you mate: I was saying to Pete, using sarcasm, that whilst his intentions were to ridicule my point that it is nearly indistinguishable from a proof of it.:sarcasm:

Do you believe in gender equality? If you do, you're a feminist by definition. No rally attendance required.
Here we go, folks, the "no true Scotsman" fallacy at work again.lol, wow, not a single one of you really knows what feminism is.
Get help.I'm a feminist
Well, you hadn't engaged with me on the topic until this post... so I think I'm well within my right to say that. I agree with you on all points except for the point that you seem to be making that I've in any way told anyone what to think, do or say. I said I didn't find it amusing, that the scene was fine even by my standards and the standards of those that I've spoken to about it.That's the operative statement here. You don't find it amusing. Some people don't, some people do.
There's no such thing as a topic that can't be joked about. There are just topics that have the potential to offend some more than others.
To answer your question, I'm all for equality. The problem with the concept of 'feminism' is that it has been hijacked by a vocal, man-hating minority. You only need to look at the recent attacks Joss Whedon, one of the most well known examples of a male feminist, came under to see that it's not some united front.
Fact is, some of the more angry, vocally aggressive people out there took this as an opportunity to write long, angsty tirades against the show. It should have been treated in the same way the men becrying Mad Max: Fury Road as secretly feminist was, but it wasn't. It was blown out of proportion by the media.
FWIW, my views on rape are pretty extreme. I've known many people who have been victims of sexual assault. I've dated a girl who was sexually assaulted. Hell, I came very close to it happening to me if it hadn't been for the intervention of a friend. Rape is the lowest of the low.
What happened on Game of Thrones was neither gratuitous nor some 'attack' on what people are inexplicably calling a 'strong character' as if she hadn't been a mewling, hateful pain in the ass for the first three or four seasons.
I thought you'd be one of the less likely people out there to make blanket generalisations of people, perverse. I'm actually offended that you'd accuse me of being unable to engage with you on this topic like you're some kind of intellectual superior deigning to share your wisdom with us.
Have you read a word I've said? I said the exact opposite of this - that the scene was fine. You all seem to have read the word feminism and lost your shit completely. Here we go, folks, the "no true Scotsman" fallacy at work again.
Game of Thrones is clearly the patriarchy subjugating women through the pervasive use of rape culture.
Get help.
I'll masquerade however I like Pete, and would support your right to do the same.C
Don't masquerade on a moral high horse especially over something so trivial like a medieval television show with zombies and dragons.
If you want to get your point across, consider adopting a more diplomatic approach instead of a self-righteous one.
Or better yet read the room. Heaven forbid people take the piss out of one another - would hate to see your reaction to a roast.
No dumbass, you told us all we don't know what feminism is and then I told you exactly what academic feminism and gender studies teaches us about the patriarchy and rape culture and how it would relate to Game of Thrones.Have you read a word I've said? I said the exact opposite of this - that the scene was fine. You all seem to have read the word feminism and lost your shit completely.

That whole nonsense about Mad Max that was attributed to MRAs tracked back to a single blog post by a guy who wasn't even an MRA.Fact is, some of the more angry, vocally aggressive people out there took this as an opportunity to write long, angsty tirades against the show.
