HBO and AMC are really re-inventing television. When you look at how raw and how unflinching Game of Thrones, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, the Walking Dead etc are - it's like watching a long, drawn out movie.

Really looking forward to seeing what can be done with Neil Gaiman's American Gods. Apparently it's been optioned.

don't discount Showtime either, Bushy (responsible for Weeds, Dexter, Californication... etc). those 3 odd networks have very much changed perception on what is considered quality television. there is also no longer a stigma between going between TV acting and film anymore... such has been the quality rise of television programming.

Ah, I completely forgot about Showtime. Dexter and Californication are tremendous. Not such a big fan of Weeds aside from eye-f**king Mary Louise Parker.

Bored to Death is another great show on HBO. Very witty.

Just finished watching the series.

Epic show and awesome final scene. The books will be read by the time season 2 starts, no way I can wait that long

Have finished reading the first two books and am about 2/3 through the 3rd one, and all I can say is WOW!.

The events in the 3rd one have left me floored. I haven't even finished it yet, and I already consider it one of the best books I've read.

**SPOILER**

That Catelyn chapter was so sad.

Yep, couldn't agree more. That 3rd book is amazing; the part you mention in the spoiler had me in shock.

The 4th's a bit slow unfortunately. I'm halfway through it, hope it rallies.

The 3rd book is insane, so many things happen that took me by surprise and floored me.

Onto the fourth book now and it is a bit slow but I guess that is to be expected considering the shit that went down in the third.

Also in regard to Jon's parentage:

Does anyone else think that he may not be Ned's bastard but actually the child of Rhaegar and Ned's sister? With Ned taking him in to avoid him being killed.

It may be far fetched but some of the interactions between Maester Aemon and Jon in regards to Stannis' sword have me curious.

I've only read up 200 pages of the fourth book so other events may quash my theory

That theory is very much alive and well. There are a few hints in some of the visions and past recollections. There are quite a few small hints that are in the books for other events that are very obvious on a re-read.

Regardless of the use of spoiler tags, discussion of the books in a thread concerning the show has extremely high chances of ending in tears.

That theory also gives the Reeds much more importance in the narrative:

as it would mean that after Ned's death,Howland Reed, being the only other survivor of the battle against the old Kingsguard, was the only person left alive knowing that secret- which of course he may have passed on to Jojen and Meera.

You can add Generation Kill, Band of Brothers and The Pacific to that list of HBO shows too

Thank god for the internet, otherwise we'd miss so many good productions here in Australia

Did not beleive what i was reading.

Only discovered the books when it went to TV, have since read all of the books and am currently re-reading them (just finishing clash of kings). Reading them twice makes a lot of things pretty clear and where the plot may go in the next installment.

Thank God for HBO

The last quarter of ADwD is pure gold. The end in particular is genius leaving so much up in the air.

Finished reading ADWD a couple of days ago.

Spoilers
Enjoyed the book, but the cliffhanger ending is killing me.

Is Jon really dead? For some reason I don't think so. There's still so much left to this story, such as his parentage.

Wun Wun is one of my new favourite character. Hopefully he survives what could happen on the Wall with all hell potentially breaking loose.

Also I'm a bit concerned at the directions that Arya's and Bran's characters are going, Bran in particular. Both seem to somewhat be going over to the dark side. Iirc in the prologue of Dance with Varamyr Six-skins, it was mentioned how a Warg who ate man-flesh, while inside an animal, or skin changed into another human was considered an abomination. Well Bran's kinda already done both.
