Gidley to captain the Blues?

If Mini is fit (which we will not know until selection time) it will be between him and Stewart (assuming he is playing again by then) as the first choice fullback. It will only be because both of these players are unavailable that Gidley would be considered.

Even if both Stewart AND Mini are unavailable for whatever reason this year, the captaincy is a long term appointment, they wont say "Well Stewart and Mini are unavailable so we'll put Gidley at fullback and make him the captain". What happens next year when Stewart is available??

Completely agree with you, although I think Mini will be a long shot unless he plays very very well.

If you think like a selector I cannot understand why they would EVER pick someone like Gidley at fullback when someone like Stewart is available.. you just wouldn't. It would just be stupid to leave a specialist fullback out and put someone like Gidley in the run on.

Plus in that article Rothfield also said this to one of his respondants:

"That’s a great team, but I disagree with your halfback. And what about Brett Stewart? He’ll be back in three weeks."

So if I'm reading that right, and he has all the 'goss' on the team, Gidley might be being considered in the halves?

Does anyone here read or listen?

Craig Bellamy - NSW Coach - has requested to NSW selectors that Kurt Gidley play 80 minutes for NSW in either the fullback, 5/8, halfback or hooker positions in 2009 State Of Origin.

Given that being the case, have a DUNCE hat for anyone here who still thinks Kurt Gidley won't be picked for NSW in the starting team

So why exactly, did Gidley get picked ahead of Stewart in the run-on side in game three last year? An origin decider of all games

True, but one run does not a season make.
That it doesn't but doing one good thing isnt really Hindmarshs style, plus he looked fitter than ever. I think he would be a great addition to the side if he continues what he showed v the Warriors

He's an average utility, a sh*t hooker, a worse halfback, equally bad 5/8th.
Its fullback or nothin... bellamy is an idiot otherwise and his selection would be a joke
But ill say this, if he is picked as a fullback and plays 80 minutes there, i dont have a single problem with that. He's one of the best fullbacks in the comp.

Well regardless of what position it is - Gidley will be starting for NSW in 2009.

Craig Bellamy loves the bloke.

Bellamy could well be, but I think it's safe to say, injury permitting, Gids will be in the starting 13 come game one

Cause Bellamy is a goose. Why was Steve fricken Turner picked in game 2?
Greg Inglis made him look like Joven Clarke or Roy Bell.....no....Justin Ryder!

The point still is , the coach gets what the coach wants.

And he wants Gidley to start - wherever that is.

The reason Gidley got picked as a utility last year isn't because he was a utility, it's because he was too invaluable to not be picked in the side. The bloke makes more runs and more metres than any other fullback in the NRL. He makes more tackles than any other fullback and has a good kicking game also. He may not be as fast, flashy, or score as many tries as Stewart. He does pretty much everything else better though.

yeah ok we'll see. Looks like most wouldn't put him in the top 3 in any position. including utility.

spot on.

was no-one watching Game 3 last year? gidley absolutely let rip in that game and was one of the key reasons why NSW almost snatched a win there.

Numbers on players backs don't mean f*ck all in the modern game anyway.

When it comes to origin you pick your best players and slot them in somewhere.

Kurt Gidley is in the Top 13 footballers in NSW.

Brett Stewarts speed might have made more of a difference and a series clnching win.

Once again QLD will smack NSW ass , for years NSW have picked players on reputation not on form.

i just hope Campo gets picked so I might have some interest in the game.

It won't matter who is fullback if Anasta and/or Pearce get selected. Would be a long and nasty origin series if that happens again.

crap. more balls in the forwards would have made more of a difference in a series clinching win.

this is the main area NSW have been losing origin in the last 3 years.
