Give Anthony Mitchell a chance

Mortimer has read to many papers & is more interested in giving a comment than just concentrating on his game. He needs to realise he has done nothing.

I said this to friends before. If he did not have the name mortimer. He would be getting blasted left right & centre from the media & most fans. The fact he has royal blood in him makes him imune. Well from what i understand. Keating has started 5 games now for 3 wins. He is going great guns at the momment & should be rewarded. Mortimer is struggling & knows it. Last night was the first game where he was average. Every game until then he has been woeful.

I would agree, this was the first game that Mortimer stood up in any way, KK did not have any support at all, he needed someone running off his hip because he looked like he would get the ball away 3-4 times. Humble played to much as a half then a fullback.

I would have Humble off the bench but if he was to force his way into the team it would be at Mortz expense not KK IMO. KK is more a halfback then mortz (even thou they are both 5-8) and his kicking game has been superior this year.

well at this stage the 2 players out of those three who r here next year already is humble and morts, kk hasnt been signed up yet, so at this stage UNTIL kk re-seigns why not put kk to bench and test humble and morts out together they have proved they can do it against manly - be it with hayne in the side but they were both good that night. but id say after andos press conference last night humble MAY be in the side again next week coz ando hinted tahu wont be right after the origin in 2 days with his ankle. wonder where he will play

well if tahu aint right it wont be humble taking his spot. It will be a centre coming up. i would say wright. He isnt going to put hmble in the centres or kk or morts.

Plus i believe we are stronger with kk in the team. Since the other 2 are signed. Lets see if kk can deliver. He signs someone else then if ando drops him thats up to him. In saying that. I want the strongest possible team playing so if they have signed or havent i dont care. With that logic we should bench mateo & hayne

so I must be the only one who think Mortz had a reasonable game last night...

nah mate i thought he really stepped up last night, tried things when we were trying to make something out of nothing got a try off his own back stood up in defence like he always does i actually dont know where all this unwarranted morts bashing has come from this year, sure he hasnt been great like last year when he surprised everyone in his first year but he has done whats been asked of him i think.

KK is a better halfback/5/8 and player than Morts. Giving Morts $250k was a very bad move especially now that Cooper Cronk could be available. Imagine Morts money plus $150k and you have Cooper Cronk, then take your pick outside him, KK or Humble both would excel.

If KK never got injured last year Mortimer would be at the Dogs and KK would have been a priority signing. I'm still yet to see Mortimer throw a great pass to put a player through a hole, That is the roll of the halfback isn't it along with a good short and long kicking game. No offence to Morts but he hasn't got distance on his kicks. If Hayne wasn't kicking at Brookvale we wouldn't have won that game. Morts will be lucky to kick a 40/20 in his career.

Enough from me, if I had a choice between Morts and KK, it would be KK in a heartbeat. KK is a Parra juniour and Morts will always have the Bulldogs in the back of his mind

I quite agree with you Stagger. Just it is easy to skip over it in light of the overall performance.

The two biggest negative were that he needs to keep barking at the pack though and his long kicking game uses a nine iron not a driver. His mid range kicking was actually spot on netting one repeat set and delivering huge pressure with the other

Spot on. For me his passing game for a half is abysmall. He typified to me what he is best at. That is backing up play. Against manly he threw a 3 man cut out pass to luke burt in the second half. We are on our 40 metre line. They were numbered up man to man charging our line & he throws it.

That play then made me realise that basic football tells you that a cut out pass in that situation is thrown when there back pedalling. The excuse of he is learning his trade doesn not completely wash with me. He has been playing in the halfs from his junior years. He just does not have the basic understanding. YOu dont learn how to have vision, he does not have it. He should count his lucky stars he has a good name

Keating and reddy are a nightmare defensively on the right. I'm sure commentators will blame grothe but there are big problems between those two.

yep KK was caught out a couple of times last night actually. morts has this all over kk in defence. thats why that side with T, Burt and Morts has conceded less tries. even, hopefully ando talks to the boys and points some of these things out with keating in defence. humble showed more in defence than kk too.

He played a bit better. He created something from nothing and did well for the Humble try and also defended well. But his kicking game is horrible he needs to learn to hit through the ball in stead of punching it and when he does hit through it he needs to hit it alot flatter then he does. Like someone said he has hardly ever put someone into a gap to score a try.

DA is adomant that his improving and will be better in the long run, So i'll give him time, but if nothing happens in that time then it's time for change.

do you honestly think that DA will drop him after last night?

I think Matt Keating took absolutly terrible options last night and he isnt doing what we need him to do. The team lost so much momentum when Robson was taken off IMO.

IMO, the team does not play aswell when he is at hooker. And It pains me to say it because a couple of years ago I saw him in the James Roby/Cameron Smith mould.

so do you think DA will drop him? personaly it's going to take more than last nights effort to drop a a guy like M Keats down to PL..

He wont drop him. He will persist until someones form is to irresistable to leave out.

If we start to struggle abit i think he will be forced to address the problem but for now he wont rock the boat. I think keating will keep his spot this year but next year i think he might be in & out of first grade

Stagger you seem like a knowledgeable fan , i just can't see why you seem cool with Parra persisting with MK. Is it because you just don't think Mitchell is ready?

Sometimes a player plays their best football when they are surrounded by better players. Case in point Horo, Horo for Wenty was on and off but since he has been promoted to first grade he has been great.

Im not a huge fan of Mitchell but i can't see how it would harm our chance bringing him off the bench. The way Ando is playing MK , is suited more for a running hooker anyway, by that i mean Anderson only brings him on towards to the end of games. Imagine someone with speed towards the end of the game it could lift our tempo.

I can see it happening. He has been a let down for a while now, even at times last year he crueled out momentum.

I dont think DA will do it immediately, as I said by his days are numbered, but Ant Mitchell is improving more and more in the lower grades and its the time of year where the young ones are to be blooded.

Do you think Ant Mitchell has the ability to take the role away from him?

I would say DA won't demote MK until KK has signed a new contract, he won't give KK any reason to not sign. If KK knows this then he'll keep stalling so his brother is not dropped. Well, not sure if this is true but I would do that for my brother.

I'd be watching for after the bye before Mitchell is considered. I'd be awfully suprised if Mitchell was thrown in against the Dragons or Storm before Keating.

Perhaps a Monday night at home against Newcastle might be his time if MK hasn't aimed up by then ;-)
