Can you tell me how many runs he has scored since then?

It must be thousands.

India was 10 months ago.

Last 12 months:
Ponting 12 matches @ 67.00
Gilchrist 15 matches at 57.21
Martyn 15 matches @ 55.72
Langer 15 matches @ 50.76
Clarke 15 matches @ 40.31
Katich 10 matches @ 37.93
Hayden 15 matches @ 31.11

Since India:
Ponting 11 matches @ 74.40
Gilchrist 11 matches @ 72.41
Langer 11 matches @ 60.66
Martyn 11 matches @ 55.85
Katich 6 matches @ 36.77
Clarke 11 matches @ 32.46
Hayden 11 matches @ 31.38

Should Martyn still be the first one ditched?

That is why Bevan never made it in the test arena.

A BS myth that was perpetuated to justifiy a terrible decision to drop Bevo. It didn't matter that shortly after short pitched bowling was allowed in ODI cricket.

As for playing symmonds, you must be joking.

Martyn's time has come, Katich close by. Symonds should go in for one of those two assuming Hussey is in there already. Our match winners are going very quick. Gilly is no longer producing those knocks and the great pair have not been able to get Australia out of trouble.

you cant make wholesale changes and I don't belive the selectors will

they have already changed a bowler, maybe one batsman has to be replaced, it should be Hyden, but they keep saying he has a good record, which means jacksh*t if he aint making runs

well a few months ago Australia was winning because of these old guys - can;t change them now, and the youngsters are ordinary anyway...

You've always been very dependent on McGrath, you've just never realised it (depsite a decent amount of evidence)...

For the last test, I'd condiser have all three experience bowlers (yes- drop Tait and Lee), all the old buggers batting - and openly say to them - "this is it boys"

Changes are needed. Why the hell would they want to take a step backwards. England didn't get to where they are now by saying Thorpe, Stewart "this is it boys". They were dropped England dropped all their dead wood players and have now become a force in world cricket. Australia must do the same or else they will go into a similar decline to the West Indies.

The Aussie test team is aged. They are 30 or over except for Clarke and now Tait. There will be a mass clean out, or a mass retirement in the near future, and Australian cricket is going to have a lean year or two until they establish who the next group of quality players will be.

The one day side has been used as an opportunity to blood some of these guys, and if this has been the case in recent times, it looks like the future of Australian cricket is lying with guys like Clarke, Watson, the Husseys and Tait.

Australia is doomed.

it's too late though - they took these guys, so they have to play - they weren't considered dead wood a few months back - it shouldn;t change that quickly - they've been put under pressure and faltered - have some faith!! McGrath back could have a big effect

Well Hayden has been deadwood for ages and we have tried to keep the faith with him. Dizzy never looked this bad earlier in the year. Kaspa and Lee were fighting for a spot and everything was looking good. Martyn and Langer were the top run scorers last year. That is why they were selected and why would you drop them based on that.

England have given Aus the wake up call needed. Hussey should definitely be in the team. We can save big changes for later but Hussey should be in the side so that our batting becomes more stable.

REmember when Michael Slater was playing ? If Slater so much as sneezed, he'd be sacked on the spot. Yet Slater was still one of our greatest openers of all time. Not many were better than him. Hayden ? pfftt. Not even close.

Matthew Hayden, at his best, has it all over Michael Slater at his best.

Nah, i'd take Slater everyday.

And Thorpe wasnt deadwood, he shoulda still been making this side(inplace of Bell) for these last 5 tests.

Hayden, its time to go.

And JJ I've known for a while we were f**ked when Mcgrath n Lee(and probly Gilchrist) left. We are missing the Waughs as we speak(specially Steve).

We are missing both Waugh's equally. Mark for his first slip catching. Steve for his captaincy.

Come on man, one bad series and you guys wanna kick players out. They'll bounce back don't worry. Maybe its englands destiny to play good this year.
One thing i don't like is that the squad is getting older but the new players aren't coming into the team as quickly. we need some new blood.

Exactly the squad is getting older hence the reason for dropping Hayden. If Hayden was 25 then he would keep his spot but he is 33 or something similar.
