Let's start with Goggleboc. Taken from a pommy show, you know this is going to suck.

Basically, cameras are setup at peoples home, mainly in their tv room, and we watch these idiots watch tv. So that's the level we're at with reality tv now? Watch them watch the tv? What are we doing, watching the socialise about tv shows? This promises to be boring, and what's worse in that channel 10 are doing nothing but throw this advertising shit in our faces.

That brings us to IACGMOOGH - I cbf typing the full thing.

What will this bring us? Hollywood stars? Sports superstars? :lol: Right.

I bet you anything this will bring us washed up, B-grade movie stars trying to re-live their glory days, and retired or twilight sports stars who have next to no market value anymore.

Pass on both of them.

I am over reality tv as much as the next one, more because it is the same every year and nothing new has happened.

At least with channel 10's new shows, it's at least something a bit new on our tv's. (except for the celebrity one I suppose)

I watched a 1/2 hour sizzle reel of Gogglebox through work and it was actually hilarious, the witty, funny and sometimes outright dumb conversations people have while watching tv from all walks of life was utterly fascinating.

I'll continue to watch it because I was laughing, quite a bit.

And even though it isn't a new concept, I think Shark Tank will be great viewing.

IACGMOOH is the one I am at least interested in but I am sure it will at least be awkward funny at points. And the whole thing is for charity so the more people that watch it means it is actually helping unfortunate people so I'll give it a look.

At least they are something a bit fresh instead of the 1000th incarnation of the block, big brother or another MKR or Masterchef season. And lets not forget AGT, Voice, X factor, SYTYCD and whatever other "talent" shows there are.

I prefer scripted shows that are well written, I believe channel 10 tends to offer the better of these shows but all the gronks prefer to watch BBT or some poorly made underbelly show.

Then there's people that write things off before a chance is given, probably because they prefer to watch the block or some shit.

il have a guilty pleasure look at gogglebox but im not expecting much. Might youtube the british version now and have a quick look.

As for the state of tv at the moment, its disgusting. I cant stress enough that in the age of golden television Australia is light years behind. 'Gallipoli' coming out on win soon is advertised as a 'landmark event' but drama tv series like this should be on our screens in prime time all year round. We are constantly filling our prime time slots with reality rubbish like the block, talent shows, dancing with the stars, while new episodes of drama, Australian or American are pushed back to ridiculously late timeslots.

The ratings for 'ok' reality tv shows are so good because their only competition is shit reality tv shows.

It's not just Australia. It's the world.

Reality (and I use that term loosely) TV is cheaper to produce, lower risk, less reliant on consistent crew/talent etc.

America does produce enough quality dramas due to it's size that could easily fill up our few TV channels. I think the stations have requirements for Australian content though, and as I first said, cheaper and easier to produce, as well as generally more profitable I imagine.

you realise that they pretty much have to right?

They have had many ratings losses recently so when they had a bit of a audience driver in the BBL, they had to try an capture the audience as best they can to get people interested.

9 does it with the block during the cricket, 7 has been doing ti with the tennis, it just simple advertising.

They have to do it because if they don't get the audience numbers, they don't get external advertising dollars so then they run at a loss.

I don't understand the hate toward 10 when the other channels do exactly the same thing.

At least 10 are bringing something new to the table, if it's shit then it's shit but you can't hate them for trying to steady this ship.

And I am pretty sure they don't think they're the best thing since sliced bread, they're probably nervous as f**k.

I find it so frustrating watching the drivel on the other stations and yet Channel 10 have had some very decent shows cancelled because they have no lead in.

I don't much like reality tv but the droves do, I would love to see them gain audience and then get people attached to the good TV they have.

Instead of the block and underbelly ver. 9.8

MKR and whatever else they have on.

The reason is that right now it's a shitty 2 horse race, if 10 start making ground, the other channels have to up their game, it should mean that the overall quality shuld get better.

Channel 10 had Homeland, The good Wife, Offspring, Puberty Blues, Modern family (the biggest show everywhere else in the world, hardly rates here), Madam secretary, elementary, blue bloods, house of lies, bobs burgers, new girl & 24.

All pretty good shows.

They also had a lot of showtime shows but because they can't seem to get people watching, they flounder.

That, imo is a much better suite of shows than anything that 9 & 7 offers.
