As much as I would like to see the Bears re admitted, Western Australia is not the way to go. They are very western centric there and i don't believe an east coast team coming in ahead of a local team with a local identity will be the best way to engage the public.
Disagree, I like the idea much more than the plastic Pirates brand. It's not as though its a current top tier team potentially going across, so I think they would embrace it ( not including Perth Red). That and the Bears are really out of options.

Pirates isn't so bad IMO, no worse than a lot of current team names. I quite liked Reds with a Red Kangaroo logo but there were problems with that as well.

I don't think Bears are the right fit for Perth after the Reds/Pirates have been campaigning for quite a while now. As for Bears being short of options I think they could make themselves relatable to Adelaide easier with similar colours, tenuous link with the Panda angle and the fact Adelaode has no strong bid or identity.

They have to act now and commit themselves there and help the local scene.. not just sit back and say "we'll move here there or anywhere to get back in the NRL" not exactly a way to win over a city.

Fcjpk off north Sydney leaches. Latching on to anywhere that is looking likely to host an nrl team. I’d have had no problem if they’d linked up with WARL in 2011when the bid work began and had been supporting the growth of the game here since then. Now they just want to maggot off all the hard work done by locals

As for plastic Pirates, pleeease. They’ve developed the brand through years of jnr grass roots work. How the frick is that plastic?

Is there a potential Western/Perth Reds bid, or was the article linking former Reds chairman Laurie Puddy with the Bears?

With the Pirates established and the article hinting there are other potential bidders, this could be every interesting for WA.

I wonder if the Western Force guy would be interested in a NRL licence if his pipe dream rugby comp falls flat?

Puddy was part of a group of businessmen who partnered with the WARL on the Reds bid in 2011. Good he is still interested and there are others also waiting to get behind a new bid,

Other group was Tony sage who owns glory and dodgy Benny Elias.

Not heard of anyone else looking at owning a perth club. Twiggy Forest is no hope, it was just a good publicity stunt for him to try and come to the rescue of the Force after the decision had been made,

Have to agree with this, Bears need to build in an area, not just latch on to what others have started like Gold Coast & Perth. Target Adelaide, set up a brand, play a NSW Cup game there annually, take local juniors across to Sydney, hire local business men and development officers etc. Build a small following there and garner some trust in the community. If the Bears are transplanted in to a city without a build up, then there is always going to be an underlying belief that they are using the city to get back in to the NRL and will escape back to Sydney at any point.

Pirates is a f**king stupid name.

The Bears colours are even similar to the old Reds, just add a splash of yellow and there you go. Two once-dead franchises return as one. I like this.

Nah, because the Bears won't let go of Sydney and these mythical "250,000 fans". Perth deserves their own team, not an old desperate Sydney club wanting to latch on very last minute after hard work has been done.

Bears could work again as an NRL team, just pick the right area and set up there, not this scab approach of throwing their name in anywhere at the last minute.

That's a fair point

I've got no issue with a Bears move to Perth IF thats the way the current bid team and WARL want to go.

For the Bears to swoop in with some other consortium and claim an NRL licence off the back of years of someone else's hard work though, would be very poor form. Put in the work (for all their membership programs and whatever else I don't recall any Bears teams playing out of Gosford in all those years of campaigning - i could be wrong, sorry if thats the case) or f**k off.

As i've said before, i'd like to see them build Adelaide from the ground up and claim it as their own.

lol the Bears are becoming a joke - jumping at every shadow that moves. BTW there is no Western Reds. The team is called the West Coast Pirates and I doubt that if a Perth team is added anyone will be jumping in front of them in the queue.

North Sydney-Gosford-Gold Coast-Perth Red-Bear-Pirate-Tits - someone come up with a logo for that team lol

So are the bears going to bring anything or just say here is a logo now do what we say.

The Pirates and the Reds before them have been working for years developing junior pathways for local WA kids and have plans in place for senior comps.

This is just the Bears once again speaking shit to the media to try and keep their brand relevant, it will go absolutely no where in WA

Not hard to see how this plays out in the Bears heads:
1. Convince WA they are a good option as partners
2. Launch the Western Bears and become relevant again
3. White Ant the club until it fails
4. Announce that Perth is just not viable
5. Move back to NS with the license, play out of the new parra stadium, thank you very much

Paranoid? Maybe, but Bears will have learnt first hand form Manly that the strategy can work.

Id much rather see a WC Pirates club linked with PNG Hunters and providing a pathway for the best PNG talent to help fill one of our weaknesses which is lack of jnr playing numbers. Play a pre season and NRL game a year in Port Moresby and get PNG behind the Pirates.

The bears leaned no such thing from Manly. Manly already held the license so your naive theory doesnt wash.

Really lets just reword it a bit and see if it sounds like how things played out

1. Convince Bears they are a good option as partners
2. Launch the Northern Eagles and protect their existence
3. White Ant the club until it fails
4. Announce that Gosford is just not viable
5. Move back to Manly with the license, revert back to the old brand, thank you very much

Can someone from the commission please tell the bears to pull there heads in and go over and fix the mess in adelaide and get them back on track and if they do that, they have a guarantee they will get a license. Apart from that bugger off.

It isn't surprising at all that you wish to reword it a bit.

I'm pretty meh on the idea of the Bears merging with a Perth bid, but I think that Perth doesn't need the Bears to be a viable option in the short term and that will go against any Bears bid.

They'd be better off trying to get in with a place like Adelaide that needs the extra assistance if they are going to be a hope of expansion any time soon, that'd make the Bears bid much more attractive.
